Jermaine Jenas shares raunchy text messages which saw him 'lose everything'
Former Match of the Day and The One Show presenter Jermaine Jenas has opened up about the explicit 'sexts' that threw him into the headlines last August and eventually led to his sacking as a Prime Time host.
The x-rated texts were uncovered last year with his 14-year marriage to Ellie Penfold soon breaking down in the aftermath leading to a divorce just a few months later in March.
At the time Ellie announced the split: "I never imagined I would have to share something so personal with the public, but given the situation, I feel it's necessary. After 16 years together and 4 wonderful children, Jermaine and I have decided to part ways.
"We will remain friends and continue to co-parent. We kindly ask that you respect our children's privacy during this challenging time."
Speaking to Comedian Katherine Ryan on his and boxer Derek Chisora's podcast Let Me Tell You Something, Jenas revealed: 'I broke a vow. I feel my level of punishment was up there. I had to take it and have some broad shoulders and handle it, and I feel like I did that.'
The star even likened the texts to something out of the raunchy novel, Fifty Shades of Grey, likening himself to one of the main characters, he added: "It was Christian Grey in text messages, put it that way.
"It was sexting, as simple as that, but it was initiated to me and then I responded. It wasn't just me going out of my way and it definitely 100% wasn't 'if you do this I will help you in your work'. There was no power element to it going on.'
He also revealed the texts happened during a bad time for him and his now ex-wife, telling listeners the pair were in turmoil at the time.
"There's a lot of stuff with me and Ellie where we weren't in the best place ourselves," he added "And things were just spiralling a little bit. In no way is that blame. I'm fully accepting responsibility.
"I dealt with it wrong and got heavily punished for it by losing pretty much everything that I had at that time.'
The scandal culminated with an HR meeting with senior BBC execs that included reading out of the string of inappropriate texts he'd sent before his contract was officially ended.
In an interview with The Sun at the time he added: 'I am ashamed, and I am deeply sorry."
He also revealed that while on holiday he'd had another meeting with BBC execs about the texts, that he'd lied to his family about.
In the aftermath, he also lost gigs presenting for the electric racing series Formula E, and despite being part of Soccer Aid coverage in previous years, this year ITV chose to favour Dermot O'Leary and Alex Scott.

One of them soon leaves villa boy Harry Cooksley very shocked indeed. Viewers saw Meg announcing the imminent arrival of six new female bombshells. The new girls made their way to the villa, where they greeted the boys from the But upon seeing them, Harry could be heard saying: "Oh my god, it's my ex." It comes as The Sun revealed the identity of Harry's ex-girlfriend - after fans spotted a secret tribute to her. The Sun uncovered that the woman is named Emma, after viewers noticed Harry's wrist tattoo of the letter 'E' and began digging for clues online. Emma previously shared a sunset selfie to Instagram, where she was seen cosying up to Harry in matching baseball caps, hers bearing an "E" and, his, an "H". The image, which has since been deleted, was dated 18 April 2022. Emma also bears a striking resemblance to one of Harry's co-stars, sparking comparisons from fans who claim she looks 'more like Shakira than Helena', Harry's current partner in the villa. Dejon offers Harry advice about ditching Shakira for Helena A Love Island spokesperson declined to comment. The 30-year-old has been at the centre of much villa drama throughout the current series. Fans previously branded him a "gaslighter" and demanded he be removed. Although coupled up with Shakira at the time, it was fellow Islander Helena who got his heart racing the most in the Heart Rate Challenge. Helena made her desire for him clear when she whispered in Harry's ear: "I want to f*** you." He immediately told Tommy to pass it on to the boys afterwards, and Dejon was left open-mouthed. During his go, Harry whispered "do you still want to f*** me?" in Helena's ear. However, when discussing the results with Shakira afterwards, Harry neglected to tell her what had happened. Fans were left unimpressed, as one wrote: "Shakira deserves so much better than Harry, casa amor please save her asap." Another added: "they all gaslight shakira??? how is helena saying it's not deep knowing what her and harry whispered to each other??????" A third wrote: "Harry mugging off shakira." Love Island airs on ITV2 and ITVX.

Danny Dyer and Louis Tomlinson among famous faces at Oasis' Cardiff comeback
Friday, July 4, 2025, will go down as one of the biggest nights in British music history as Oasis graced a live stage for the first time in 16 years. The Mancunian Britpop heroes formed in Burnage in the early 1990s and quickly became—for better or worse—the defining band of their generation. But singer-songwriter brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher had a famously frosty relationship, and the band shockingly split when Noel quit in August 2009. After waging a cold war in the press for more than a decade, the two siblings kissed and made up in 2024 and announced a string of live dates for summer 2025. The Oasis Live 25 Tour kicked off in Cardiff on Friday night, with the 75,000 tickets sold at the Principality Stadium among the hottest in the world right now. But it's not just regular folks who've descended on the Welsh capital for a bit of the action—half a dozen famous faces have been spotted in the crowd as well. 📝| 'Louis is a huge Oasis fan and has been extremely open about failing to secure tickets in the queue. He's said to have found himself on tonight's guestlist, which promises to be one of the most exciting concerts in music history.'— The Mirror can reveal that the cheeky… — World Tomlinson (@LouisWT91World) July 4, 2025 The first to pop up was This Is England actress Vicky McClure, who joined the BBC's live coverage of the build-up to the Oasis gig and then went to grab a spot in the crowd. From the BBC itself, Radio 2 host Vernon Kay popped along, despite being called a 'lanky b*****d' by Liam Gallagher himself during a tense meeting between the two years ago. And MailOnline photographers spotted Gavin & Stacey star Rob Brydon in the crowd, with the Welsh actor not having to go too far from home to see his musical heroes. But stealing the headlines were none other than actor Danny Dyer, who was spotted in Cardiff earlier on Friday, and former One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson. Danny opted for dark sunglasses and a moustache to keep his identity a secret, but fans still managed to spot him walking along a road near the stadium. He was seen wearing a smart casual navy blue jacket as he walked alongside a friend (or bodyguard), with hundreds of onlookers none the wiser. And reports in The Mirror earlier today speculated that Walls hitmaker and Oasis superfan Louis had managed to secure himself a spot on the guest list. Louis had apparently tried and failed, along with thousands of others, to get his hands on those prized tickets earlier last year when they went on sale. He said at the time: 'I didn't [get tickets]. I was in the queue, but I never got a number. I did try. I did try. I have my fingers crossed.' Fellow musician Serge Pizzorno—of the Leicester-based rock band Kasabian—was also apparently spotted by reports, with Kasabian owing a lot to the Manchester band. Everton FC's manager, Sean Dyche, also sat on the BBC's sofa outside the Principality Stadium before taking his place among the thousands witnessing history. And it seems he set a bit of a trend, as fellow Premier League boss Nuno Espirito Santo, in charge at Nottingham Forest, was also rumoured by The Sun to be in attendance on Friday. At the gig, Oasis rolled back the years by playing some of their biggest hits, with some fans in Cardiff reckoning Liam sounded 'biblical' and better than ever. @ShaneRyanOneil exclaimed: 'Liam hasn't sounded this good in years. Biblical,' while @Jahvasconcelos said: 'Liam's voice sounds absolutely BIBLICAL. Unbeliveable.' More Trending The two brothers held hands as they walked onto the stage in Cardiff, with their gesture being greeted by huge cheers from the over 70,000-strong crowd. Bang on 8:15pm, Noel and Liam launched into their tune Hello, which opened their second album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? all those years ago. After this, they went into Acquiesce – which originally appeared as the B-side to Oasis' first number-one single Some Might Say, in 1995. The words 'This is not a drill' appeared on the screen in giant letters, with the crowd—decked out in Mancunian bucket hats, sunglasses, and Oasis merch—sending cups flying by jumping in the air.
