Jake Paul heavy favorite, but public backing Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. big
June 28 - No matter who wins the cruiserweight fight between Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Saturday, the bout already has been a massive moneymaker for many involved.
The card has set a record for the biggest boxing gate in the history of the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., and sportsbooks are seeing heavy action ahead of the main event.
Paul, 28, lacks Chavez's resume, but he is 11 years younger than the former champion. That has led oddsmakers to maintain Paul as a heavy pre-fight favorite.
The former YouTube star was being offered at -575 at DraftKings on Friday night, with Chavez the +400 underdog. Paul's line was -600 at BetMGM, with Chavez at +450 and with the book anticipating yet another big event headlined by Paul.
The last time he stepped in the ring, Paul defeated former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. Despite Tyson being three decades Paul's senior, the fight was the most streamed and the heaviest-bet in history.
"Following up the most bet fight in BetMGM history, Jake Paul looks to take out another former WBC champion in Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.," BetMGM senior trader Alex Rella said. "However, Chavez was a champion over a dozen years ago and he lost to Anderson Silva in 2021 who then lost to Jake Paul in 2022. Fight math may not be perfect, but it can help be indicative of the times and why Jake Paul is a -600 favorite."
Chavez's longshot odds had drawn 83 percent of the bets and 95 percent of the money wagered at BetMGM.
Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) enters his 13th professional fight against the veteran Chavez (54-6-1, 34 KOs), the latest in a wide variety of aging boxers and former MMA stars he has coaxed into to ring for massive paydays.
"He's a great fighter," Paul said. "I like big names. I like legendary names. He's on my path to a world championship. He's a tough test, a very, very tough test, but I'm here to challenge myself and do big things in this sport and then make a title run after I beat him on Saturday."
Chavez quickly discredited Paul's track record, keeping it short and simple.
"No, I don't think he's good," Chavez said. "I think he tries (and) trains hard, but he's not a good fighter. If he were a good boxer, everyone on this stage would be a legend. Everybody knows that."
Chavez was considering giving himself an ultimatum: a possible retirement if he loses to Paul. Chavez remains extremely confident that he is going to be the first person to knock out the former YouTube star.
"I always prepare to take a win," Chavez said. "I'm here to win, that's why I am very confident I'm going to take the win."
Meanwhile, Paul went as far as to predict how he would prevail Saturday night.
"I'm gonna knock him out. That's what I came here to do," Paul said. "First round, it's gonna be an early night. It's gonna be a right hook right away and I'm going home early. We don't get paid for overtime. This is gonna be a spectacular performance."
Paul and Chavez are scheduled to get underway after 11 p.m. ET, concluding a seven-fight card.

PSG vs Inter Miami prediction: European champions to book quarter-final slot
PSG vs Inter Miami betting tips Paris Saint-Germain face Inter Miami in the round of 16 in the Club World Cup this Sunday, with Lionel Messi hoping to spring the biggest upset of the tournament against his old side. European champions PSG have already been the victims of a surprise result, having lost to Botafogo in the second game of the group stage, though they recovered to beat the Seattle Sounders 2-0 and top Group B. And despite that early slip-up, football betting sites have the Parisians as 3/1 favourites to win the competition ahead of their match with Miami, who finished second in Group A behind Palmeiras. A 2-2 draw with the Brazilian side and a 2-1 win over Porto illustrated that the gap between Miami and the world's bigger sides is not as wide as expected, with Lionel Messi still capable of producing magic moments and the supporting cast – including Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets among others – able to chip in at vital moments. However, this match will surely be a bridge too far for the American side, with Ousmane Dembele and co. hopeful of adding a world title to the European one they wrapped up so convincingly at the end of May. And the early Club World Cup odds are certainly backing the Champions League winners, with PSG offered as low as 1/14 to qualify versus 8/1 for the MLS outfit. PSG vs Inter Miami prediction: European champions to book quarter-final slot PSG will enter most matches as clear favourites in this competition after their performances on the European stage at the end of last season, with the 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League final showing what this team are capable of when it all clicks. The 4-0 win over Atletico was another example of what PSG can do to top sides in Europe, and while the matches against Botafogo and Seattle were far less impressive, this is a team that remains more than capable of turning up the quality when it matters. In fact, that loss to Botafogo was the first 'real' loss PSG have suffered since their second-leg Champions League loss to Aston Villa in April, with the Parisians only losing twice since then – though both were in games where Luis Enrique rested players having already wrapped up the Ligue 1 title. Overall, PSG have just four losses since 5 March, and have won eight of their last 10, scoring 26 goals across those matches and conceding just six. At the same time, though Inter Miami have been somewhat impressive so far at the Club World Cup, the fact remains that barring Messi it is a squad with players who are either past their best or simply not at the level of a side like PSG. Losses of 4-1 and 3-0 to Minnesota and Orlando City – coupled with draws against San Jose, Philadelphia and Al Ahly – illustrate that the American side can struggle to both score and defend at times, and though the 2-2 draw to Palmeiras was more encouraging, it'll take some real magic from Messi to get anywhere near penetrating this PSG defence. And to that end, we think a wager on PSG to win to nil offers the best value on the results market, with odds around 23/20 at various betting sites. PSG vs Inter Miami betting tip: Kvaratskhelia to prove the difference? Khvicha Kvaratskhelia proved one of the signings of the year after PSG managed to prise him away from Napoli for around €70m in January, and though four goals and three assists in 14 Ligue 1 matches appears a modest tally, goals and assists against Aston Villa, Arsenal and Inter Milan in the last three rounds of the Champions League show that the Georgian is a man for the big occasion. While he didn't manage to find the net in the opening two matches at the Club World Cup, the 24-year-old scored last time out against Seattle Sounders, and with Ousmane Dembele still a doubt ahead of this one, he may once again find himself carrying the bulk of the attacking burden alongside Desire Doue. In fact, it is clear that Kvaratskhelia is making a concerted effort to do exactly that, with the winger having attempted 10 shots over the opening three matches, with five hitting the target. With the youngster having scored last time out, we're backing him to find the net once again when his side face Inter Miami, with betting apps offering odds around 5/6 for Kvaratskhelia to score anytime. Boxing tonight: Live stream, ringwalk times and fight card as Jake Paul returns
Jake Paul will return to the ring on Saturday night, seven months on from his unanimous decision win over heavyweight icon Mike Tyson, and here's how you can watch Jake Paul returns to the ring this Saturday to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, in his first boxing bout since his controversial clash with Mike Tyson last November. The American fighter has gone 11-1 in professional boxing since making his debut in 2020 against fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib. Since then, Paul has fought a host of famous faces, including Nate Diaz, Tommy Fury, Tyron Woodley and most recently, Iron Mike. The 28-year-old has had a mixed reaction from the boxing community throughout his short fighting career, especially due to his controversial bout with 58-year-old Tyson. Although he won via unanimous decision, the YouTuber-turned-boxer admitted that he held back in the fight against the former undisputed heavyweight world champion. Now, Paul will face another ex-champion in the form of Chavez Jr, who is the son of boxing icon Julio Cesar Sr. The 39-year-old boasts a 54-6-1 boxing record and held the WBC middleweight title from 2011 to 2012. Recently, Chavez Jr improved to 54 wins after a unanimous decision victory over UFC star Uriah Hall. His last loss came in June 2021, when the boxer suffered a surprising decision loss to mixed martial arts legend Anderson Silva. A win for Chavez Jr. would improve his record to 55 wins and see the Problem Child receive his first loss since February 2023, when Fury won via split decision in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, a victory for Paul would grow his record to 12-1, with his reputation in the boxing community only able to improve after his heavily criticised triumph over the aging Tyson. When I beat this man, all the boxing media, like you always do, are going to discredit it. I'm going to expose and embarrass him. He's the embarrassment of Mexico. Mexico doesn't even claim him, and he's going to get exposed on June 28. "They say he's training hard. They say this is the most focused he's ever been. Good. As he should be. People don't realize how good I actually am, and when he feels those first few punches, he's going to want to quit and go back to his stool." Julio Cesar Chavez Jr: "Jake is crazy. I think he's overrated. He hasn't fought anybody in his life. On June 28th, he's going to see what's up. To start off, he's never knocked anybody out. "Give me one name he's knocked out, just one. It's like if I fought with my dad. It's going to be a good fight. When he was born, I was already a champ."
