Dubai Business Events (DBE), the city's official convention bureau and part of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism successfully participated at IMEX Frankfurt joined by key stakeholders. At IMEX, a delegation of 30 stakeholders from across the sector has joined DBE in showcasing Dubai's credentials as a premier global hub for business events. The delegation includes leading hotels, venues, DMCs, airlines and other service providers including Emirates, Expo City Dubai, and Dubai World Trade Centre, together highlighting Dubai's ability to deliver dynamic world-class events at the intersection of innovation, knowledge-sharing and sustainable growth. This comes as Dubai continues to earn global recognition, this week being confirmed as #1 globally for highest attendee number per association meeting in 2024, and once again ranking #1 in the Middle East for the total number of association meetings hosted during the period, according to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). Cvent has this week also confirmed that Dubai maintained its #1 position among the Top 25 Meeting Destinations in the Middle East and Africa. The accolades further demonstrate the city's ability to both host prolific events and facilitate event growth for associations, allowing them to tap into the market and increase global access to members. Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), said: 'As we engage with the global industry at IMEX Frankfurt, we are reinforcing Dubai's position as a strategic destination for impactful business events. Our consistent top rankings from ICCA and Cvent, and growing pipeline of major international events, are the result of a focused and collaborative approach with our stakeholders, as we work collectively to reinforce the emirate's position as a premier global hub for the MICE industry. Business events are integral to our tourism strategy and are increasingly driving progress across key sectors. They are playing a vital role in advancing the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33 – to position Dubai as one of the world's most innovative, inclusive and future-ready cities, as guided and championed by the visionary leadership of the UAE.' Dubai's participation aligns with this year's IMEX theme – Impact 2.0: Activating the Future – emphasising the global events community's responsibility to address major global and community challenges while driving positive change through events, partnerships and initiatives. In line with this vision, Dubai continues to attract business events that not only grow visitation but also support innovation and deeper engagement across its economic sectors. This directly contributes to the D33 economic agenda, which aims to place Dubai among the top three global cities for business and leisure. Dubai's momentum was further underscored by a record 437 successful bids secured in 2024 to host international conferences, congresses and incentive programmes, a 20% year-on-year increase. These events are set to attract over 210,000 delegates to Dubai in the coming years, significantly contributing to the city's business and tourism ecosystem. Among the high-profile events won: Amway ESAN 2025, the 27th General Conference of the International Council of Museums 2025, the Global Symposium on Health Systems Research 2026, the World Congress on Medical Informatics 2027, ISAPS Olympiad World Congress 2027, Forever Living Products Global Rally 2026, the Scientific Assembly and Associated Events of the Committee on Space Research 2028 and The International Conference on Computer Vision 2029. Dubai continues to see strong growth in tourism aligned with its MICE strategy. In 2024, the city welcomed a record 18.72 million international overnight visitors, a 9% year-on-year increase. That momentum has continued into 2025, with 5.31 million international visitors arriving between January and March, marking a 3% increase compared to Q1 2024. Business events have been a key contributor to this sustained growth, generating economic impact across sectors and further strengthening Dubai's global brand. Further enhancing the city's capacity to meet rising demand in the events space, a key development includes an expansion plan for the Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo City Dubai. As part of broader urban development initiatives including the Al Maktoum International Airport expansion, the project is a strategic investment aimed at reinforcing Dubai's position as a global platform for major conferences and exhibitions, enabling the city to host larger and more complex events that deliver long-term value that meets increasing demand and attendance.
IMEX remains a cornerstone of DBE's global engagement strategy, providing an essential platform to connect with international associations and networks. Dubai continues to use such platforms to strengthen global partnerships and attract events that support its economic, social and sustainability priorities.

Dubai launches initiative to assist first-time home buyers

Dubai has launched a programme for first-time home buyers, aiming to make homeownership more accessible and affordable by facilitating priority access to new launches, preferential pricing and tailored mortgage solutions. The First-Time Home Buyer Programme is applicable to properties less than AED 5 million and accessible to Emirati and expatriates of all nationalities and income levels, and to applicants aged 18 and above who are residents of the UAE. Khalid Al Shaibani, Director of Rental Affairs Department at Dubai Land Department, told Dubai Eye 103.8's The Agenda that the programme offers a flexible payment plan, either from the developer or special interest rates through banks. He added that the 4 per cent fee charged by the mainland department could be paid in interest-free installments over two years, with the aim to attract 5,000 new buyers this year. Leading developers have reportedly already committed to the programme, promising to support first-time home buyers through priority access to units in new off-plan launches, and enhanced commercial terms, including preferential pricing. Participating banks will provide "tailored mortgage products designed specifically for eligible buyers," as the programme reportedly continues to onboard new partners to increase the choice for buyers. Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), said the initiative marks a "significant milestone" for the real estate sector. It "represents a powerful economic lever - stimulating long-term demand, driving liquidity into the real estate ecosystem and accelerating the sector's contribution to GDP in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33. By lowering entry barriers to homeownership for Emiratis and expatriates alike, we are enhancing investor confidence, increasing market absorption rates, and reinforcing Dubai's global positioning as a city where personal aspirations and business ambitions converge," Almarri said. 'In a global climate where housing accessibility is a structural challenge, Dubai is offering a model of sustainable urban development - one that supports talent retention, fosters community cohesion, and enhances the city's competitiveness as a place to live, work, and invest."

Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary to undergo Dhs650 million development

Dubai Municipality has awarded a Dhs650 million contract for the development of the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. This upgrade is intended to position Dubai as a top global destination for the eco-tourism and among the world's top 3 tourism destinations, it announced earlier this week. Set to be completed in two phases, the first phase is expected to see completion by 2026, and will amount to costs of Dhs100 million. The primary aim of the project is to enhance the local biodiversity, preserve the sustainability of this vital natural habitat and bolster the sanctuary's position as a premier sustainable eco-tourism destination offering a unique and integrated experience. These features are to benefit both residents and tourists alike, designed to make use of the projected spurts in resident and tourist population. The upgrade is expected to multiply the number of visitors to the sanctuary six-fold, reaching between 250,000 and 300,000 annually. Phase One In Phase One, approximately 6.4 square kilometres of the sanctuary will be covered for development, with a focus on a more qualitative shift. The project will rehabilitate and improve mangrove habitats by planting new mangroves and increasing mangrove coverage by 60%, from 40 to 65 hectares. 3 of 12 This will also include the introduction of new irrigation channels, rehabilitation of mangrove forests and creating new habitats such as the mangrove lake, North Edge Lake and reed ponds. A Green Spine will also be developed. There will also be 144% increase in water bodies within the reserve, expanding their total area to 74 hectares, helping achieve major environmental benefits such as a 60% increase in carbon dioxide absorption. Additionally, 10 hectares of mudflats (salt flats) will be added. Phase Two The second phase will be dedicated to establishing and enhancing the main infrastructure and recreational services to eventually support the hosting of various events and activities within a total area of 20,000 square metres. Of course, this will be built around the eco-system. This plan also includes a uniquely designed visitor centre showcasing the sanctuary's diverse flora and fauna, birdwatching towers, and retail facilities like restaurants and kiosks, as well as environmental awareness and education centres. To complete the plan, 5.6 kilometres of cycling tracks and three kilometres of walking trails through natural landscapes will be added, along with 23 hectares of landscaping. Why Ras Al Khor? Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary is a vital part of Dubai's natural reserves, one of the largest and most significant, and it's development and preservation is a priority on the agenda of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The sanctuary covers approximately 6.4 square kilometres and was the first site in the UAE to be listed under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance in 2007. It is also classified under the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) guidelines. The sanctuary is counted among the most biodiversity-rich natural reserves in the region, hosting nearly 450 species of flora and fauna, including 47 hectares of mangroves, an important element of the coastline in this part of the world where greenery is not much of a common sight. It also welcomes around 20,000 migratory birds annually, including the iconic flamingo. @dubaimediaoffice Images: Online > Sign up for FREE to get exclusive updates that you are interested in
