Coachella starts today — here's what to order immediately
To help you determine what may be helpful to bring to Coachella, we compiled a list of items that are either highly rated or that NBC Select editors love. Each item was selected to help you enjoy the concert experience.
What is Coachella?
Not familiar with this popular annual event? Coachella is an annual music and arts festival that takes place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California and hundreds of thousands of people attend. The festival spans two weekends in April — this year, from April 11 through 20. The festival is held outside, and a few dozen musical acts perform each day. In addition to the music, there are several large-scale art installations, culinary experiences and activations.
Last-minute Coachella essentials
To gather last-minute essentials that would be helpful at Coachella, we considered items that we've covered previously and that NBC Select editors have tried and liked. We focused on necessities that will help make the experience smoother — like a refillable water bottle so you don't have to buy water constantly and a power bank to keep your phone charged.
Your phone running out of battery during a concert is so not helpful — so keep a portable charger on hand to give your cell juice when needed. According to the brand, this compact, portable charger comes with a foldable USB-C connector and a 5,000mAh battery that can hold a full charge for your phone.
JisuLife Personal Fan
This personal fan lives in my bag during the summer months and I've used it at several outdoor concerts and events. It has three fan speeds and is rechargeable via USB-C. It also only weighs 3 ounces so that it won't feel heavy in your bag.
Don't let a sunburn get in the way of a good time. Keeping sunscreen on you will make it easy to reapply whenever needed. This option has an SPF 70 and blends in nicely without leaving a white cast, says NBC Select commerce editor Cory Fernandez, who tested it for our roundup of best sunscreens. The flat shape of the bottle also doesn't take up a lot of space, which means you can fit it into a small crossbody or fanny pack.
Simple Modern Insulated Water Bottle
Staying hydrated during a music festival is a must. The Simple Modern water bottle, one of our favorite reusable water bottles of the year, makes it easy to have hydration on you at all times and will keep your water cold thanks to it being made from stainless steel and having double-wall vacuum insulation.
This brand of hand sanitizers is a favorite of NBC Select associate reporter Bianca Alvarez. They kill bacteria and hydrate your skin simultaneously, according to the brand. This pack has three scents: wild watermelon, velvet peach and berry bliss.
Pander Belt Bag
This bag can be worn around the waist or as a crossbody. It is made from nylon, which is easy to wipe clean if you spill anything on it. It has a large zippered compartment with three internal mesh pockets, making it easy to stash things you need quick access to. The bag comes in over 20 different colors.
Going with a group? Consider bringing a few AirTags. You can hand them to different people so your group can find one another if you get separated. The Apple AirTag syncs with your smart devices. Then, you can use your phone to see a map and view the exact location of your synced AirTags.

'I wasn't invited to Charli XCX's wedding but I tasted a slice of the cake'
A woman has gone viral after tasting Charli XCX's wedding cake on TikTok despite not being invited to the event. Commenters are divided, with some wondering if the pop star might want her cake back It looks like some of us are still having a Brat summer. A woman has gone viral online after taking home Charli XCX's wedding cake – despite not being invited to the ceremony. The 'Brat' singer tied the knot with 1975 drummer George Daniels in Hackney, London on July 19, in a ceremony that has been praised by fans as lowkey. Charli XCX was seen wearing a short Vivienne Westwood gown and enjoying a late-night after party. However, a TikToker has taken the 'lowkey' aspect perhaps a step too far, after showing off Charli XCX's leftover cake. The TikTok user, who goes by Daughter of a Hoarder, posted a video of her walking along the streets of East London yesterday holding the wedding cake. The caption read: 'taste test pending'. READ MORE: Brat summer or brat bummer? Charli XCX's 'embarrassing' Coachella outfit leaves fans divided In a follow-up video, she explained that her friend works in the restaurant where George and Charli had their wedding reception the night before. There was some cake left over and offered for her to 'swing by' and get a slice, where he then boxed up a slice for and her boyfriend to enjoy. But then she said: 'And then, I think it was the owner of the restaurant, was just like, 'Do you just want it? It's going to go in the bin.'' She added: 'I think they'd been eating away at it all day and I couldn't really turn that down.' The cake had a fig on top and a vanilla buttercream icing. She said that she'd tried cake from Violet Cakes in London Fields and that she didn't 'doubt it would be delicious'. After cutting off a slice for herself in front of the camera, she held up a piece of the sponge and declared: 'Cheers' before popping it in her mouth. 'Mmm, lovely,' came the verdict. 'I obviously told my girl group chat what I was doing…and they were like, 'you should sell a slice'. But that feels wrong,' she continued. Instead, she said her plan was to freeze the 'big bit' and eat her slice. She said she wanted to save the rest of the cake for 'the gang'. 'How fun for everyone to be able to say they've had a nibble of Charli and George's wedding cake. We're big stans, as a collective,' she said. She then showed a picture of herself at Charli XCX's Glastonbury performance. While some comments described the review as 'iconic 'and an 'historical event', others were not so pleased with the video. 'What if she wants it back,' the top-voted comment reads. 'Is this considered theft,' another joked. 'Maybe I'm too superstitious but you're not supposed to do something like this,' a third said. Another added: 'It feels like a huge invasion of privacy.' However, others were coming to A Daughter of a Hoarder's defence. One user pointed out: 'As someone who works in a restaurant it is very common that people don't want to take the rest of their wedding cake home with them, and then everyone in the kitchen gets to chow down on it. It's really not weird."

Kneecap take swipe at John Swinney after Glasgow show sells out in hours
It is not the first time they have had a go at the First Minister 'SPECIAL THANK YOU' Kneecap take swipe at John Swinney after Glasgow show sells out in hours Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IRISH rap trio Kneecap took a swipe at John Swinney as their Glasgow show sold out in hours. The Belfast-based group announced tickets for their show at the OVO Hydro had completely gone. Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up 5 Kneecap took a swipe at John Swinney 5 They performed at the O2 Academy earlier this month 5 Tickets for their OVO Hydro show sold out in hour 5 They called out John Swinney in a post on social media 5 Kneecap are performing at the OVO Hydro later this year Tickets for the show at the arena on November 30 went on sale this morning. The trio, whose stage names are Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí, have been at the centre of controversy. They came under fire after their Coachella set in April where they projected anti-Israel messages on stage. Footage from 2023 emerged of them urging audience members to "kill your local MP" and claiming that "the only good Tory is a dead Tory". Mo Chara, whose real name is Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, is also facing terror charges after allegedly displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah. The band were axed from the TRNSMT music festival in Glasgow after cops raised safety fears. Scotland's First Minister John Swinney even weighed in on the controversy, saying it would be "unacceptable" for them to perform at the Glasgow Green festival. After being axed from the festival, the controversial group performed a sold out show at the city's O2 Academy. During the show the band took a swipe at the SNP leader with Móglaí Bap, real name Naoise Ó Cairealláin, saying: "What do you call your First Minister? Crowds gather as Kneecap play Glasgow gig after TRNSMT axe "He wanted us off the line-up, f*** him." The group have made yet another jibe at Mr Swinney after today's ticket sell-out. Kneecap branded the FM their "head of PR" in a social media post. They said: "Glasgow SOLD OUT in a few hours. "13,000 Scottish comrades…let's go! "A very special thank you to our Head of PR in Scotland Mr John Swinney…. best in the business x." The band issued a furious response after Swinney called for them to be axed from TRNSMT. They said they they have never supported either Hamas and Hezbollah, condemned all attacks on civilians and 'rejected any suggestion they would seek to incit violence' against any individual. They claim the footage from their show was taken "out of context" and they are facing a "co-ordinated smear campaign" because of their stance in support of Palestine. Kneecap have also taken swipes at the PM Sir Keir Starmer after he called for their Glastonbury set to be axed. The group have led chants of "f*** Keir Starmer" at several shows. Kneecap did perform for fans, many brandishing Palestine flags, donning tri-colour balaclavas and "Free Mo Chara" t-shirts, at Glastonbury. Cops announced they were probing the group over the Glasto set, but today said no further action would be taken.
