Worldwide Entech receives Malaysia Book of Records recognition for first sanitary landfill converted into a recreational park

Malay Mail2 days ago
SHAH ALAM, July 21 — Worldwide Entech Sdn Bhd (Worldwide Entech), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Worldwide Holdings Berhad (WHB), has been officially recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the first company in Malaysia to successfully convert a sanitary landfill into a public recreational park. The award was presented to Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria, Executive Director of Worldwide Entech during the MBR30 Celebration of Delights held at One World Hotel, Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya.
The 100-acre site, located in Puchong, holds a long list of industry milestones. In 1995, it became Malaysia's first engineered sanitary landfill, under the WHB Group. In 2004, the same site received Malaysia Book of Records recognition for another first – the successful implementation of a landfill gas-to-energy project, converting methane gas from decomposed waste into electricity.
This latest recognition highlights Worldwide Entech's operational excellence and innovative approach to environmental rehabilitation, while also reflecting the long-term vision and leadership of WHB in sustainable waste management and green infrastructure development.
'This achievement by Worldwide Entech is a proud reflection of our Group's ongoing commitment to environmental innovation and CSR,' said Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria.'To transform a former landfill into a thriving public space speaks to what sustainability truly means turning yesterday's challenges into tomorrow's shared value.'
The converted site now serves the community as a recreational park featuring landscaped open spaces, walkways, and public amenities built on internationally accepted post-closure landfill management standards. It stands today as a model of what purposeful land transformation can look like.
As the environmental management arm of WHB, Worldwide Entech continues to lead the way in delivering long-term solutions in waste management, aligned with the Group's vision of creating sustainable value for Selangor and beyond. Worldwide Entech's latest projects in delivering sustainable infrastructure and unlocking new potential for environmental management include the development of three waste-to-energy projects in Selangor.

Fahmi uses RON95 price cut to take a swipe at July 26 ‘Turun' rally

PAPAR, July 23 — The federal government's latest cash handout and planned petrol price cut reflect its commitment to easing living costs, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said today. He also said the assistance and incentives show that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his administration are serious about delivering relief where it matters most. 'Harga minyak turun, Anwar tak turun, tapi Harga RON95 turun,' Fahmi quipped during a media interview, which translates to, 'Anwar is not going down, but the price of RON95 is'. His remark was an apparent jab at the #TurunAnwar rally the Perikatan Nasional opposition is organising this weekend. Earlier today, Anwar announced a one-off cash aid of RM100 for all Malaysians aged 18 and above, as well as the lowering of the RON95 petrol price from RM2.05 to RM1.99 per litre once the fuel subsidy rationalisation is implemented later this year. Fahmi noted that the expanded cash aid under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme would cost the government RM2 billion and benefit 22 million Malaysians. 'Today's announcements are proof that we are not just listening, but acting on the people's concerns,' he said. Fahmi added that the government has managed to strengthen the economy while maintaining low unemployment and attracting steady investment, despite global uncertainties. He said the public could expect more announcements in the coming months, including the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan on July 31 and Budget 2026 in October, where deeper and more inclusive reforms will be unveiled.

Most Malaysians unaffected by new electricity tariff, says Fadillah

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — The implementation of the new electricity tariff structure will not affect 85 per cent of Malaysians, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof told the Dewan Rakyat today. Fadillah, who is also minister of energy transition and water transformation, explained that while 15 per cent of users might see adjustments, the majority of Malaysians will remain protected through ongoing government support. 'That 85 per cent includes domestic users who benefit from rebates, as well as micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) eligible for specific assistance,' Fadillah said in response to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN–Kota Bharu). 'The current focus is on promoting energy efficiency and encouraging users to adopt cleaner, more cost-effective practices.' Fadillah also explained that as a public-listed company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has a duty to generate profits for its investors, which include public institutions such as the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB). A portion of these profits will also be reinvested to upgrade the national electricity grid to accommodate the growing integration of renewable energy sources, he said.

Zafrul: Asean can lead global semiconductor push with strategic neutrality, industry cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — Malaysia, through platforms such as the upcoming Asean Semiconductor Summit (ASEMIS) 2025, is determined to advance the Asean Framework for Integrated Semiconductor Supply Chain and strengthen the region's role in ensuring global tech security. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said that with a growing number of industries requiring semiconductors as key components, Asean is at a pivotal moment in history where it has not just the capacity, but also the strategic neutrality, to strengthen its positioning as the world's leading hub for semiconductors. 'I am confident ASEMIS 2025 will forge greater cooperation between the public and private sector which will enhance the already strong growth momentum of the semiconductor industry across the region,' he said in a statement today. The inaugural ASEMIS, to be held in Petaling Jaya tomorrow, will be hosted by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in collaboration with the Malaysian Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA). Themed 'Shaping the Future of Asean's Semiconductor Industry', the one-day event is aimed at positioning Asean as a leading global hub for semiconductor manufacturing, technological security and innovation. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the summit, which will bring together a total of 500 attendees, comprising policymakers, industry analysts, economists, sovereign fund representatives and industry leaders from across Asean and Asia. MSIA president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai said delegates, through exclusive opportunities to connect with key decision-makers and industry captains, could catalyse their business growth through collaborative ventures which would help drive Asean's regional competitiveness. 'We are pleased to partner with MITI in organising ASEMIS 2025 for stakeholders to network, gain strategic insights, and help curate the future of the semiconductor industry in Asean,' he said. Panelists include industry association leaders from Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam who will discuss public-private collaborations and the drive for greater regional cooperation. — Bernama
