MITRE and Gambit Partner to Advance Autonomous Systems for Homeland and National Security
The collaboration aims to enhance situational awareness, operational efficiency, and mission safety by integrating Gambit's proprietary software solutions, capable of enabling groups of robotic systems to learn, adapt, and act on commands from a single operator, and MITRE's deep expertise in advancing trusted, secure autonomous platforms.
The partnership will test and prototype the usability of these systems in critical domains such as Department of Homeland Security operations while also exploring applications for Department of Defense (DoD) mission sets. Testing and development will leverage MITRE's autonomous ground and air system teams at the MITRE MASE Lab and real-world simulations facilitated through the MITRE National Range.
"Autonomous systems have the power to reshape critical mission capabilities, from securing the border to supporting national special security events," said Yosry Barsoum, vice president and director, Center for Securing the Homeland, MITRE. "Through our partnership with Gambit, we are advancing safe, reliable, and scalable autonomous solutions that serve as force multipliers—enabling a single operator to oversee multiple systems. Together, we aim to help meet the law enforcement community's evolving operational needs while accelerating transformative technologies that strengthen the homeland security enterprise.
The Gambit-developed system enables single-operator oversight of coordinated multi-domain autonomous systems, including aerial drones and ground vehicles. For example, ground vehicles can safely transport and deploy aerial drones to areas of interest, offering improved surveillance, data collection, and situational awareness for ground vehicles operating in unknown territories. This is particularly impactful in applications such as:
First responder operations: Overwatch of operational areas and enhanced officer safety during high-risk missions
Border security: Comprehensive geographical analysis to strengthen border defense strategies
Combat operations: Deployment of multiple autonomous platforms by a single operator, reducing manpower requirements
"With MITRE, we'll redefine how groups of autonomous systems operate across multiple domains," said Josh Giegel, founder and CEO, Gambit. "Our technology reduces operator load and seamlessly integrates ground and aerial systems, placing mission-critical autonomy learning within reach of both first responders and the DoD. Together, we're setting a new standard in trusted autonomy."
Both MITRE and Gambit are prioritizing the safe and ethical use of autonomous technology. The partnership fosters transparency and accountability while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining human oversight of deployment in sensitive scenarios.
This partnership also reinforces MITRE and Gambit's shared commitment to engage with stakeholders across government agencies, academia, and industry to maximize the potential of autonomous systems for broader applications in public safety, defense, and humanitarian missions.

Photo by Tima Miroshnichenko on Pexels The company continues to develop new use cases for customers, which they are waiting in line to pursue, hoping to drive efficiencies through the use of AI. The firm noted how the Street is underestimating the over $1 billion revenue stream that its Artificial Intelligence Platform, or AIP, and commercial business can evolve into. 'To this point we believe the Trump Administration clearly represents an additional tailwind for PLTR with AI initiatives within the US government including the DoD accelerating as AI remains a strategic focus on the federal front.' -Ives and his team. The analysts also highlighted deals made under the Trump administration, as well as the NATO deal, highlighting how the company is in a 'sweet spot to benefit from a tidal wave of federal spending on AI across North America and Europe.' MP Materials and DoD to expand US rare earth magnet supply chain
US-based rare earth producer MP Materials has entered a public-private partnership with the US Department of Defense (DoD) to advance the domestic rare earth magnet supply chain and lessen reliance on foreign sources. The US is almost entirely dependent on imports for rare earth magnet components. The new strategic partnership aims to stimulate domestic production, bolster industrial resilience and secure essential supply chains for industries poised for growth and future dual-use technologies. The collaboration includes a multibillion-dollar investment package and long-term commitments from the DoD for the construction of MP Materials' second domestic magnet manufacturing facility, known as the 10X Facility. The 10X Facility, whose location is yet to be determined, will serve both defence and commercial clients. With an estimated manufacturing capacity of 10,000 tonnes (t), the facility is expected to begin commissioning in 2028. MP Materials also plans to enhance its heavy rare earth separation capabilities at its Mountain Pass facility in California, where high-purity rare earth materials are extracted, separated and refined at a single site. The company is also commissioning a magnetics facility in Texas, named Independence, which will anchor its downstream capabilities. MP Materials founder, chairman and CEO James Litinsky stated: 'This initiative marks a decisive action by the Trump administration to accelerate American supply chain independence. 'We are proud to enter into this transformational public-private partnership and are deeply grateful to President Trump, our partners at the Pentagon and our employees, customers and stakeholders for their unwavering support and dedication.' Under the partnership, the DoD has committed to a ten-year price floor of $110 per kg for MP Materials' neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) products, ensuring stable cash flow and protection from market volatility. The DoD has also guaranteed to purchase all magnets produced at the 10X Facility for ten years post-construction. To support the development of the 10X Facility, MP Materials has secured a commitment letter for $1bn in financing from JPMorgan Chase Funding and Goldman Sachs Bank. The company also expects to receive a $150m loan within 30 days from the DoD for expanding heavy rare earth separation at Mountain Pass. The DoD will purchase $400m of a new series of convertible preferred stock in MP Materials, with the potential to become the company's largest shareholder. This investment will be used to expand rare earths separation, processing and magnet production capacities. In May 2025, MP Materials signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden) to create a fully integrated, end-to-end rare earth supply chain within Saudi Arabia. Why TMC the Metals Company Stock Is Soaring Today
The Pentagon invested $400 million in MP Materials, fueling speculation that more deals could be coming for mining companies like TMC. The Trump administration says shoring up domestic production of key strategic materials is essential to national security. TMC remains a highly speculative, pre-revenue company. 10 stocks we like better than TMC The Metals Company › Shares of TMC the Metals Company (NASDAQ: TMC) are jumping on Thursday, up 8.6% as of 2:46 p.m. ET. The rise comes as the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC) gained 0.3% and 0.1%, respectively. TMC's stock is getting a boost from a major deal announced this morning between the Pentagon and another mining company. Last week, President Trump mused about the possibility of the federal government investing in domestic rare earth mining. The U.S. is extremely dependent on foreign rare earth elements -- especially from China -- which are critical to many key defense systems. This morning, MP Materials, which owns the only operational rare earth mine in the U.S., announced that the Department of Defense (DoD) is investing $400 million in the company. The deal will see the DoD become the largest shareholder, controlling nearly twice the shares of CEO James Litinsky and the next-largest shareholder, BlackRock Advisors. Rare earth and critical mineral mining companies across the board saw their shares lifted by the news on the hope that the Trump administration would make additional deals. Although the administration hasn't explicitly stated it will, it has indicated as much. TMC could very well be the beneficiary of a similar deal. Still, this is pure speculation. There are no guarantees. There's a lot of hype behind TMC -- it is entirely pre-revenue -- and I would stay away from the stock unless you have a particularly high risk tolerance and are willing to lose your investment.
