Find Rocky, Maxie, take Rs 50k: Owners announce hefty reward for missing pets in Hyderabad; startled by dog's bark, he flew off
HYDERABAD: A reward of Rs 50,000 awaits anyone who finds and returns Rocky or Maxie - two missing African parrots - to their anxious owners in Hyderabad.
The incentives are not limited to parrots alone.
With a growing number of pet disappearances across the city, owners are offering hefty rewards, ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000, to bring home missing dogs, cats and birds that they share deep bonds with.
Most missing incidents have occurred at boarding facilities and clinics from where frightened pets have fled due to anxiety. Others vanished from their residences where they were briefly left unattended.

In one case, a resident from Nallagandla announced a Rs 50,000 reward for locating his lost African grey parrot, following a futile three-month search.
"I shared a deep bond with Rocky, my African grey parrot, who would perch on me every day. On March 15, while walking with Rocky on my shoulder in Nallagandla, a dog's bark startled him and he flew off," said Sourav Upadhyay, an IT professional in Gachibowli.
Owners pull out all stops to reunite with beloved pets
I distributed pamphlets in the neighbourhood and went door-to-door to inform residents about my missing pet. I am willing to offer Rs 50,000 as a reward to anyone who brings him back," added Upadhyay.
Maxie, another African parrot, went missing on June 14 from a home in KPHB. The owner, V Eshwar, said Maxie had formed a strong bond with his late father. "Maxie disappeared on June 14 after managing to open the windows while we were away, and has not returned home since. We're offering Rs 50,000 as a reward for finding him," said Eshwar.
In Budwel, D Vinod is searching for his lost puppy Tiku. "Tiku disappeared on June 18 from a train at Umdanagar railway station. Despite lodging complaints with local police and RPF, the lack of CCTV cameras at station has hindered our efforts in locating it. I'm offering a reward of Rs 10,000 for anyone who locates my pet. I have shared his details on social media platforms," Vinod said.
As such cases rises, Hyderabad's pet owners are pulling out all stops to reunite with their companions.

Pilgrims troubled as Bhadrachalam chokes on garbage amid sanitation staff protest over reduced salary
KHAMMAM: Due to poor sanitation, the temple town of Bhadrachalam has been in a state of disarray for the past two months. Sources said the outsourcing staff have not been discharging their duties because of reduced salaries. The unhygienic conditions are troubling pilgrims visiting from across the country. Locals have also criticised the government's inaction. Garbage has piled up across the town, including near the temple. Of the 285 sanitation and drainage workers, nearly 140 have stopped reporting to duty. Most of the absentees are from the drainage and road-cleaning sections. Officials said only seven out of 90 drainage workers are currently on duty. Earlier, the gram panchayat paid each worker Rs 12,000 per month. This was reduced to Rs 9,500 recently. 'We can't run our families on such low pay,' said worker K Ramana, adding that daily-wage labourers earn up to Rs 15,000 a month. 'Despite working 8 to 12 hours a day, we are paid just Rs 9,500,' he lamented. Local resident B Shanker Reddy said the mosquito menace has worsened, causing illness, especially among children and the elderly. Another resident, B Ramana Reddy, said the issue must be resolved urgently as Bhadrachalam is a temple town. Devotees have also raised complaints about the foul smell and garbage heaps. Gram Panchayat executive officer Ch Srinivas said the issue has been taken up with the government and that they are managing sanitation with the available staff.
