Oando Achieves 63% Production Growth, Posts ₦1.72 Trillion Revenue in H1 2025
The Group reported revenue of ₦1.72 trillion, representing a 15% decline driven by lower trading activity and weaker realised prices, despite stronger upstream contributions. Gross Profit fell by 28% to ₦59 billion reflecting both a topline contraction and changing segment mix. Nevertheless, the company maintained a Profit-After-Tax of N63 billion, consistent with the result recorded in H1, 2024.
Following, its recent acquisition of Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) from Italian oil giant, Eni, the company has focused heavily on infrastructure upgrades, production optimisation, and integration of the NAOC asset base leading to increased capital expenditure increase of ₦44 billion. Additionally, Oando's commitment to safety is demonstrated by achieving zero lost-time injuries (LTIs) and recording 12.3 million LTI-free hours, underscoring its continued excellence in HSE performance.
The Trading subsidiary increased its crude oil liftings to 14 cargoes (12.9 MMbbl) in H1 2025, compared to 10 cargoes (10.6 MMbbl) in H1 2024, reflecting improved offtake execution.
Speaking on the 2025 half year results, Group Chief Executive, Oando PLC, Wale Tinubu CON, commented ' In H1 2025, we advanced our growth agenda in our upstream division, the primary driver of the Group's performance, by achieving a 63% year-on-year increase in production volumes. This was driven by the successful consolidation of NAOC's assets, early gains from our optimization programme and our assumption of operatorship, which enabled us implement holistic security measures amid improved community relations, resulting in enhanced infrastructure reliability, higher production volumes, and greater operational resilience.'
'Our trading segment faced headwinds which exerted pressure on the entity's revenue and the Group's topline as a result of declining PMS imports into the country due to rising local refining capacity from Dangote Refinery, a positive development that enhances Nigeria's energy security and self-sufficiency. In response, we diversified our crude offtake sources, optimized trade flows, and expanded into LNG and metals. These initiatives are already gaining traction and will support stronger performance in H2.' He added.
Similarly, another independent player Aradel Holdings Plc, released its H1, 2025 unaudited financials and reported revenue of ₦368.1 billion, up 37.2% and Profit after Tax of ₦146.4 billion, up 40.2% driven by stable average production volumes.
Additional highlights in the first half of the year include the company securing operatorship of Block KON 13 in Angola, marking its strategic entry into the Kwanza Basin and a significant step in expanding its upstream footprint Africa. Looking ahead, the company is preparing for capital restructuring initiatives, including an equity raise and debt conversions, which it plans to present at the upcoming Annual General Meeting and Extraordinary General Meeting scheduled to hold in August. These plans follow the successful upsizing of the RBL 2 facility to $375 million, strengthening its financial flexibility to accelerate development of the Group's expanded 1 billion boe upstream portfolio.
Looking forward, Tinubu remarked ' As we enter the second half of the year, our priorities are clear: accelerate upstream monetization through drilling and production assurance, strengthen trading performance, and execute our capital restructuring initiatives to restore balance sheet flexibility. With a focused strategy and a clear execution roadmap, we remain committed to delivering sustained value to our shareholders.'
Oando has set its sights on maintaining full-year production of 30,000–40,000 boepd, driven by a balanced capital program of 3 new wells and 6 rig-less interventions. The company's trading guidance includes 25–35 MMbbl crude oil and 750,000–1,000,000 MT refined products. Additionally, Oando projects capex of $250–270 million focused on drilling, infrastructure, and ESG projects, with a 20% cost reduction goal.

Opec+ makes another large oil output hike in market share push
Opec+ agreed on Sunday to raise oil production by 547,000 barrels per day for September, the latest in a series of accelerated output hikes to regain market share, as concerns mount over potential supply disruptions linked to Russia. The move marks a full and early reversal of Opec+'s largest tranche of output cuts plus a separate increase in output for the UAE amounting to about 2.5 million bpd, or about 2.4 per cent of world demand. Eight Opec+ members held a brief virtual meeting, amid increasing US pressure on India to halt Russian oil purchases — part of Washington's efforts to bring Moscow to the negotiating table for a peace deal with Ukraine. President Donald Trump said he wants this by August 8. In a statement following the meeting, Opec+ cited a healthy economy and low stocks as reasons behind its decision. Oil prices have remained elevated even as Opec+ has raised output, with Brent crude closing near $70 a barrel on Friday, up from a 2025 low of near $58 in April, supported in part by rising seasonal demand. 'Given fairly strong oil prices at around $70, it does give Opec+ some confidence about market fundamentals,' said Amrita Sen, co-founder of Energy Aspects, adding that the market structure was also indicating tight stocks. The eight countries are scheduled to meet again on September 7, when they may consider reinstating another layer of output cuts totalling around 1.65 million bpd, two Opec+ sources said following Sunday's meeting. Those cuts are currently in place until the end of next year. Opec+ in full includes 10 non-Opec oil producing countries, most notably Russia and Kazakhstan. The group, which pumps about half of the world's oil, had been curtailing production for several years to support oil prices. It reversed course this year in a bid to regain market share, spurred in part by calls from Trump for Opec to ramp up production. The eight began raising output in April with a modest hike of 138,000 bpd, followed by larger-than-planned hikes of 411,000 bpd in May, June and July, 548,000 bpd in August and now 547,000 bpd for September. 'So far the market has been able to absorb very well those additional barrels also due to stockpiliing activity in China,' said Giovanni Staunovo of UBS. 'All eyes will now shift on the Trump decision on Russia this Friday.' As well as the voluntary cut of about 1.65 million bpd from the eight members, Opec+ still has a 2-million-bpd cut across all members, which also expires at the end of 2026. 'Opec+ has passed the first test,' said Jorge Leon of Rystad Energy and a former Opec official, as it has fully reversed its largest cut without crashing prices. 'But the next task will be even harder: deciding if and when to unwind the remaining 1.66 million barrels, all while navigating geopolitical tension and preserving cohesion.'

Nigeria Expands Agro-Industrial Footprint with New Processing Hub in Oyo State
Oyo SAPZ will host up to 40 agro-processing industries, create over 100,000 direct and indirect jobs, and benefit half a million farmers. A great honour to do this on my last official visit to Nigeria as President of the African Development Bank Group ( – Adesina Nigeria has launched a new Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) in Oyo State, marking a major milestone in the country's efforts to boost agricultural transformation, job creation and rural industrialization. The groundbreaking ceremony, held in the Ijaiye community near Ibadan on Saturday, was attended by national and international dignitaries, including the President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina who was making his final official visit to Nigeria in that role. Also in attendance were the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, and Nigeria's Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari. The Oyo site is the third to be developed under the national SAPZ program, and the first in southwest Nigeria. It follows earlier launches in Kaduna and Cross River States in April 2025. According to Dr. Adesina, "I believe that Nigeria can and must be a global powerhouse in agriculture. But you need investments to be able to do that. You also need industrial platforms that will connect primary agricultural production all the way to how you store products, how you process and add value, and how you ship to be able to sell. And that is what the special agro-industrial processing zones are really about.' The program is financed by the African Development Bank, in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, and Nigeria's federal and state governments. Together, they have committed $538 million to the first phase of the program, covering seven states and the Federal Capital Territory. Covering 3,000 hectares, with 300 hectares designated for immediate development, the Oyo SAPZ is expected to host up to 40 agro-processing industries, create over 100,000 direct and indirect jobs, and benefit half a million farmers. Oyo State Governor Makinde hailed the launch as a fulfilment of promises made: 'Today is about promises kept. It is a strategic step on the journey of sustainable development. These hubs bring producers closer to processors and link farms to markets. They reflect our government's belief that agriculture is not just about food, it is about infrastructure, enterprise and national relevance. We're building a future where agriculture feeds not just homes, but industries; where it doesn't just sustain families but entire economies.' Representing Vice President Kashim Shettima, Nigeria's Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari highlighted the SAPZ initiative's alignment with national priorities: 'Today's event exemplifies the spirit of partnership and shared vision that is vital to our nation's progress. The SAPZ initiative is one of the cornerstones of the renewed hope agenda championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a vision rooted in restoring Nigeria's dignity, unlocking our vast potentials and creating opportunities for every citizen.' Dr. Adesina underscored the transformative vision behind SAPZs, calling them essential to unlocking agricultural value chains and lifting millions out of poverty. 'The export of primary commodities is the door to poverty. The export of value-added commodities and products is a highway to wealth. It doesn't really matter what you have in terms of agricultural commodities, whether it is cocoa or coffee, or grains; if you're not adding value to it, it's actually going to make you poor. So, what we're doing here is to be able to unlock that value,' Adesina stressed. 'Our goal is very clear. It's to reduce massive post-harvest losses, develop logistics, and improve linkages between farm production, agro-processing, and value addition, transform rural economies, and, of course, to create jobs.' He outlined three critical pillars for the success of the SAPZs: political will, resource mobilization, and strategic partnerships. 'What we are witnessing today would not have happened without intense collaboration,' he noted. Reflecting on his 10-year tenure as President of the African Development Bank, Adesina highlighted milestones achieved under his leadership, including the Bank's capital increase from $93 billion in 2015 to $318 billion in 2024, and the two-time ranking of its sovereign portfolio as the most transparent among multilateral development banks globally The SAPZ initiative is a flagship of the Bank's 'Feed Africa' strategy, launched by Adesina in 2015. The zones are being developed in 28 sites across 11 African countries, with the Nigerian program being the largest. The chairperson of the Ijaiye Farm Settlers Association, David Olatunji, described Saturday's groundbreaking ceremony as 'a memorable opportunity' for the community and the state. 'We have a lot of unbroken forests around us, and the farmers are ready to work!' he declared. Dr. Adebowale Adeyeye, an agripreneur specializing in soyabean and cashew production and processing, said: 'The SAPZ project in Ijaiye is a strategic boost for businesses like ours. With targeted government support in areas like power, road access, and security, it creates the kind of enabling environment we need to scale operations, reduce costs, and attract long-term investment. It's a move that will strengthen agribusiness value chains and enhance overall competitiveness.' The SAPZ Programme is working to transform Nigeria's rural economy into zones of prosperity, by facilitating industrial processing, expanding market access, and attracting private sector investment. The Zones are being developed in 28 sites across 11 African countries, with the Nigeria program being the largest. Dr. Kabir Yusuf, National Coordinator of SAPZ Nigeria, announced plans to expand the program to an additional 10 states from September 2025, marking the beginning of the second phase that will cover the remaining States in the country. Adesina was accompanied by senior Bank officials, including the Director General for Nigeria, Dr. Abdul Kamara; Senior Special Adviser on Industrialization, Prof. Oyebanji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka; and Director of Agricultural Finance and Rural Development Department, Richard Ofori-Mante.
