LEEKS (38A: Veggies worn on Saint David's Day) Saint David's Day is the feast day of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales. It is observed on March 1, which is the date of Saint David's death in 589 BCE. Traditional Saint David's Day activities include wearing daffodils and LEEKS, two national symbols of Wales.
ACTS (9A: "Into the Woods" has two) Into the Woods is a 1987 musical by Stephen Sondheim that intertwines the plots of several fairy tales. As the clue informs us, it has two ACTS.
KNEE (15A: Joint bent in a Nordic hamstring curl) The Nordic hamstring curl is an exercise in which a person starts in a kneeling position (i.e. with KNEEs bent) and then slowly lowers their body forward by extending the KNEE.
SHIP (16A: Captain Hook's vessel) We're talking about the fictional Captain Hook here, the antagonist in J. M. Barrie's 1904 play Peter Pan. Captain Hook's vessel was the pirate SHIP the Jolly Roger.
TEAMMATE (20A: Bronny, to LeBron James, e.g.) An astute solver might have guessed the answer here was "son" – until seeing the letter count of the answer. LeBron "Bronny" James is the son of LeBron James. Both LeBron and Bronny James currently play basketball for NBA's Los Angeles Lakers, making them TEAMMATEs.
EGYPT (33A: Country where Sham el-Nessim is celebrated) Sham el-Nessim is a national holiday in EGYPT that marks the beginning of spring. The holiday's name translates to "smelling the breeze" in English, and appropriately, it's celebrated outside with picnics, music, and games. Sham El-Nessim is celebrated on the Monday after Coptic Easter (which occurs later than the Easter holiday in Western Christianity).
SAX (44A: John Coltrane's instrument) John Coltrane (1926-1967) was a SAX player, bandleader, and composer. In 2007, John Coltrane was posthumously awarded a special Pulitzer Prize for his "masterful improvisation, supreme musicianship, and iconic centrality to the history of jazz."
BERT (45A: Muppet with a pet pigeon) and ERNIE (62A: Muppet with a rubber duck) and ELMO (54D: Muppet with a pet named Dorothy) This is a lovely little Muppet sub-theme. I like the choice to write all three clues in the "Muppet with a..." format. By the way, BERT's pet pigeon is named Bernice, ERNIE's rubber duck is named Rubber Duckie, and ELMO's pet named Dorothy is a goldfish.
CLICK BAIT (58A: "This One Weird Trick..." headline, e.g.) Resist the CLICK BAIT, no matter how interesting or intriguing it seems.
REES (67A: "Mudbound" director Dee) Mudbound is a 2017 movie directed by Dee REES. It is based on Hillary Jordan's 2008 novel of the same name. The movie is a historical drama telling the story of two World War II veterans – one white, one Black – who return home to Mississippi after the war.
UNDER THE SEA (6D: "The Little Mermaid" song that features steel drums) "UNDER THE SEA" is a calypso-style song sung by the crab Sebastian (voiced by Samuel E. Wright) in Disney's animated 1989 movie The Little Mermaid. The song is Sebastian's attempt to dissuade Ariel (the titular mermaid) from her plan to go after Prince Eric. I can hear those steel drums now... "UNDER THE SEA / UNDER THE SEA / Darling it's better / Down where it's wetter / Take it from me..."
FRUIT NINJA (30D: Mobile game that involves slicing apples, mangoes, coconuts, etc.) FRUIT NINJA is a game in which a player uses their finger to slice fruit that appears on the screen. It's been quite some time since I've played FRUIT NINJA (but amazingly I have played it), but I recognized the description here immediately.
TACOS (47D: Foods "al pastor") TACOS al pastor is made with pork that has been marinated with pineapple, dried chilies, and spices and then skewered on a spit and grilled.
ONION (Cajun holy trinity veggie) In Cajun cuisine, which originated in Louisiana and was developed by CAJUNs (an ethnic group who are descendants of Acadian exiles), the "holy trinity" of aromatic vegetables – green pepper, ONION, and celery – is used in many recipes.
BAR (59A: Mixologist's workplace) A mixologist, aka a bartender, mixes and serves alcoholic beverages at a BAR.
PENALTY BOX (3D: Place for a punished hockey player)
UNDER THE SEA (6D: "The Little Mermaid" song that features steel drums)
FRUIT NINJA (30D: Mobile game that involves slicing apples, mangoes, coconuts, etc.)
TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN: The last word of each vertical (DOWN) theme answer is a type of TURTLE: BOX TURTLE, SEA TURTLE, and NINJA TURTLE.
TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN is an expression alluding to a mythical TURTLE that holds the Earth on its back, and suggests that this TURTLE rests on the back of another TURTLE, which rests on another TURTLE, etc. TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN is also the title of a young adult novel by John Green and the 2024 film adaptation of the novel. Today TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN is an appropriate title for this puzzle in which types of TURTLES are found DOWN in the theme answers. Thank you, Orca Jimmy, for this interesting puzzle.

Sixers legend Charles Barkley golfs with Knicks star Jalen Brunson

It's deep into the offseason in the NBA so now is the time for random players and legend to link up and participate in a random activity. New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson and Philadelphia 76ers legend Charles Barkley fell into that category on the golf course. Barkley, who is considered one of the best players in the history of the league, is famous for his unorthodox golf swing. He was on the golf course posing with Brunson, his father Rick Brunson, and legendary Villanova coach Jay Wright via the younger Brunson's Instagram account. The legendary Sixers forward certainly like he avoided any lowlights when considering there was no other video clip on Twitter. Brunson and the Knicks have to be considered the favorites in the Eastern Conference in the 2025-26 season. They are currently the healthiest team and have their core intact from a conference finals run the previous season. The Sixers will look for their own clean bill of health to take down the Knicks in the coming season.

Ex-NBA All-Star Calls Out Jeff Teague For "Moonwalking" On His LeBron James Steroid Use Accusation

Ex-NBA All-Star Calls Out Jeff Teague For "Moonwalking" On His LeBron James Steroid Use Accusation originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Going into year 23, LeBron James has played at the pinnacle of basketball for over two decades. He has exceeded all expectations in terms of longevity and efficiency at this age. Just recently, Jeff Teague, a former NBA player, accused him of using steroids during his time with the Miami Heat from 2010 to 2014. Just hours after this accusation, Teague retracted his statement on Instagram, saying he was joking when he said that. That did not sit well with Gilbert Arenas, the former NBA All-Star, who went on social media to call him out for retracting his words as if he was "moonwalking." 'Ah man! They got you, Jeff, but look, congratulations, I heard the Colts just signed you to cornerback, they said they loved the way you backpedalled out of that statement,' said Arenas as he laughed at Teague's situation. 'They said you were out here moonwalking, man. Michael Jackson on them, man. Damn, Jeff, you can't say that about the King, man. I know your page started flickering, didn't it? Page started flickering, algorithm started messing up? Club 520 about to be Club 260 cause you're a** would've been gone.' 'Ay, Jeff! You better stop it because there are a few people you can't talk about: LeBron James, Bronny James, and that's it. Nobody else got that kind of power, you see, your daddy called, and they got to him. Boy, you better buy your LeBron jersey and sit back and be Team LeBron like the rest of us.' LeBron James became the only player last season to not miss a single attempt in 50+ dunk attempts across all teams, going 71 of 71. He averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds in 70 games played in the regular season last year. James not only made the All-NBA second team last season, but he also did it with impeccable efficiency. Playing at this level, at his age, also makes him vulnerable to baseless accusations that he may be using performance-enhancing drugs in one way or another. LeBron James became the only player last season to not miss a single attempt in 50+ dunk attempts across all teams, going 71 of 71. He averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds in 70 games played in the regular season last year. Seeing that LeBron James' legal team has been active recently, Teague may have anticipated some legal action against himself, too, for making such a statement about James without concrete proof. They never played on the same team, and Teague's podcast has recently gained a massive following, which could have prompted the Lakers' superstar to take legal action against him for slandering him in front of a massive audience. Therefore, it seems that Teague took the safe way out and claimed he was joking. Sources have previously also claimed that it is an unsaid and secret belief among players in the league that James uses PEDs. The lack of any concrete proof, instead of loads of circumstantial evidence like the time taken in his return from injury or performance at this age, is probably the reason why players have not made public statements to this effect. Now, Teague did that and immediately played it off as a joke. Maybe we just have to accept that LeBron James is a story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jul 25, 2025, where it first appeared.

Kwame Brown Rips "Stupid M****rf***er" Gilbert Arenas After Federal Arrest Over Illegal Gambling Business Allegations

Kwame Brown Rips "Stupid M****rf***er" Gilbert Arenas After Federal Arrest Over Illegal Gambling Business Allegations originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Gilbert Arenas broke the internet after his federal agents arrested him for allegedly running an illegal gambling business at his mansion in Encino, LA. The former NBA star, alongside five other defendants, including a person suspected of being a high-ranking member of an Israeli transnational crime group, was arrested on Wednesday, July 30, by the Justice Department following a federal indictment. Kwame Brown, Arenas' former teammate with the Wizards, found this as a reason to celebrate and expressed his opinion on the arrest and the aftermath. He first called out Gilbert Arenas for talking about him and his family before he ripped into the former NBA star on a live stream. 'I told people one thing, I said, 'this n**** is a stupid mother*****, he's going to self-sabotage. He's a dummy. And look at this stupid mother****,' said Brown in a celebratory mood. He also called out Shannon Sharpe, who parted ways with ESPN on the same day as Arenas' arrest. 'Today is like my mother***ing birthday…. B***h, you said I was drunk, I don't even drink… I feel so good… Shannon Sharpe, your big talking-a** fired. All them mother****ers that talk about my momma's son. Shannon Sharpe, your thick tongue a** fired. God damn, Gil, you're in the slammer.' 'You're facing fifteen years, five years on each charge, right? But your dumba** was playing cards with the Israeli Mob. So now you're going to have to make a decision. You can't snitch, because your dumba** said you're 'No Chill Gil' so you can't chill. You've got to fight this one out.' 'Your bi***a** can't tell on them Israelis, them mother****ers got so much money,' warned Brown, hinting at potentially bad consequences for snitches. So Brown seemed to be content in thinking Arenas is going to have to spend 15 years in prison if found guilty of all three charges. Arenas is charged with one count of conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business, one count of operating an illegal gambling business, and one count of making false statements to federal investigators. At his arraignment, he pleaded "not guilty" to all charges as a trial date was set for late September. Brown did not stop there; he went on to accuse Arenas of also ruining Nick Young, a.k.a. Swaggy P's career. Brown claims Nick Young became the collateral damage to Gilbert Arenas' actions multiple times in his career. 'You f***ed up Swaggy P's career the first time. Swaggy P could've been a better basketball player than you. You were a dumba** veteran, and you f***ed up Swaggy P's career. Now you've done f***ed up Swaggy P's second career. Swaggy P is one of the funniest n****s on the show; he's crazy, almost got in a fight with Kenyon. Now ain't no more Swaggy P.' Kwame Brown and Gilbert Arenas never had a harmonious relationship despite being teammates from 2003 to 2005. Their feud became public to the point that they both admitted they do not like each other at all, and Brown even accused Arenas of ruining his career with the Wizards. Now, Brown seems to be having the last laugh as Arenas faces criminal charges that could see him go to prison for multiple story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jul 31, 2025, where it first appeared.
