Upcoming Project: Kaalidhar Laapata
For over a year, whispers of a strained relationship between Bollywood power couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai have been circulating online. Despite the widespread speculation, neither of them has directly responded to the gossip. They continue to maintain a united front in public by attending family events and sharing glimpses of their life on social media. The couple, who tied the knot in 2007, are parents to 13-year-old Aaradhya Bachchan. Over the years, they have co-starred in several films, including Kuch Naa Kaho, Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke, Dhoom 2, and Guru.In a recent interview with ETimes while promoting his upcoming film Kaalidhar Laapata , Abhishek Bachchan briefly addressed how untrue reports impact him emotionally. Though he has mostly remained silent in the face of persistent online chatter, he admitted that falsehoods now hit him harder than they once did. The reason, he says, is his evolving role as a family man. What once seemed insignificant now feels deeply personal, especially when it involves his loved ones."Previously, things that were said about me didn't affect me. Today, I have a family, and it's very upsetting. Even if I clarify something, people will turn it around. Because negative news sells. You're not me. You don't live my life. You're not answerable to the people that I'm answerable to. People who put out such negativity have to live with their conscience..." he said.Abhishek acknowledged the harsh reality of online hate and the ease with which people judge from behind the safety of a screen. He emphasized how emotionally damaging anonymous attacks can be, even to those perceived as emotionally resilient. While he understands that the public is curious, he believes that twisting facts for sensationalism causes real harm to individuals and families."It's so convenient to sit anonymously behind a computer screen and write the most nasty things. You do realise you're hurting somebody. No matter how thick-skinned they are, it affects them. How would you like it if somebody did that to you?" he added.Abhishek also explained why he chooses not to respond to online rumours. He pointed out that no matter what clarification is offered, it often gets manipulated to suit the prevailing narrative. In his view, negativity tends to attract more attention and engagement, which is why false and damaging stories are amplified. The actor expressed his frustration with the culture of trolling, describing it as inconsiderate and cruel. On the work front, Abhishek Bachchan is preparing for the release of his new film Kaalidhar Laapata, which is set to stream on ZEE5 starting July 4. Directed by Madhumita, the film also stars Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and child actor Daivik Bhagela. The narrative centers on a middle-aged man grappling with memory loss and isolation. The story explores emotional vulnerability and the struggle to find connection in a fast-paced world.
