Good Morning Britain host announces ITV show break and will be off air for weeks

Daily Mirror10-07-2025
Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid made a surprise announcement as she confirmed that she'll be taking a break from the ITV show until the "start of the new term"
Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid made an unexpected announcement as Thursday's programme drew to a close, revealing she would be stepping away from the show.
The experienced broadcaster, 54, had returned to screens on Thursday (July 10) morning alongside co-host Richard Madeley to present the day's leading headlines.

But as the programme wrapped up, Susanna disclosed that viewers wouldn't be seeing her for the coming weeks as she embarks on her summer break.

Addressing the audience at home, she declared: "I am off on my summer holidays and we'll see you at the start of the new term."
No official word has emerged regarding who might fill Susanna's position during her absence, though it's likely to be one of GMB's established presenters including Ranvir Singh, Kate Garraway, or Charlotte Hawkins, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Following her move to the ITV programme in 2014, after stints on programmes including BBC Breakfast, Sunday Morning Live, and The Andrew Marr Show, Susanna has become a cornerstone of breakfast television.
She's become the recognisable presence appearing on our screens Monday through Wednesday, working alongside various rotating co-hosts.
This development comes amid ITV's planned major overhaul of its daytime programming, which has placed numerous positions in jeopardy.

These substantial alterations have sparked concern amongst both employees and audiences regarding the fate of their beloved programmes and familiar faces on the network. ITV chiefs have announced a major shake-up for Loose Women and Lorraine as part of fresh cost-cutting initiatives.
From 2026, Lorraine Kelly's breakfast programme will be slashed to just 30 minutes, broadcasting from 9:30am to 10am instead of its current hour-long format.

The show will also be trimmed to just 30 weeks annually, meaning the regular stand-in hosts who typically cover during Lorraine's breaks will find themselves without work.
ITV executives have also revealed that Loose Women faces significant alterations, with the programme moving to "a seasonal basis for 30 weeks of the year" according to network bosses.
The potential job losses have sparked viewer speculation about which presenters might face the chop.
These sweeping changes were unveiled in May by Kevin Lygo, Managing Director of ITV's Media and Entertainment Division, who declared the modifications were essential to "generate savings."

Ruth Langsford 'fights to keep £3.6m mansion' and finally ditches wedding ring

The Loose Women star has reportedly ditched her wedding ring after splitting from Eamonn Holmes last year. Ruth Langsford has been spotted without her wedding ring for the first time since splitting from Eamonn Holmes. The former power couple's shock break-up was announced last May, and a source tells OK! that ditching the ring after so long was a 'no turning back' decision for Ruth. ‌ The source close to the star said: 'Removing that ring might have been a shock to fans, after she's worn it for so long. But it was the final bit of closure. It was a message to Eamonn and symbolic that Ruth's marriage and that chapter of her life is over. ‌ "She's closing the door on her past for good. 'Taking it off is Ruth saying, 'I've moved on, it's all behind me.' She's just desperate to get this divorce out of the way, now. There's no turning back.' ‌ Ruth posted an Instagram video recently which showed her happily prepping one of her 'favourite summer dishes' – a 'colourful, no-cook salad'. It's not the first time Ruth – now locked in a divorce battle with GB News presenter Eamonn – has shared her love of cooking on social media, but it's the first time she's done so having quietly removed her wedding ring. It comes after Eamonn, who is battling serious health issues, was seen using a walking frame at a glitzy night out in London with girlfriend Katie Alexander, 43, on his arm. The pair were attending fellow GB News star Nana Akua's party as Nana celebrated her engagement to fiancé Stephen Gillen at London's swanky Blue Marlin Club. ‌ Ruth has stayed mostly silent on the celebrity split. However, ditching her wedding ring could be the biggest sign yet that she's over her husband, along with the wild nights out she has enjoyed with showbiz pals such as Rylan Clark and Lizzie Cundy, as documented on social media. Ruth did address the break-up on Instagram last September when a fan posed a question in response to a video she had posted, which showed her sharing how to make a healthy drink, reports the Mirror. ‌ 'Why has she still got her wedding rings on?' the fan asked, to which Ruth fired back, 'Because I'm still married.' She then added two crying with laughter emojis to make sure the fan knew she was keeping her sense of humour about the pointed question. Meanwhile, the former couple's divorce battle rumbles on. Ruth had previously hired a top divorce lawyer, and it's believed she has been fighting to ensure she can keep their £3.6 million six-bedroom home in Surrey. ‌ Back in May, counsellor Katie had her own 'ring-gate' moment, when she took to social media to shut down rumours that she and Eamonn were engaged, after followers spotted what they thought was an engagement ring on her finger in a snap with former This Morning host Eamonn. Katie said: 'Before anyone jumps to the #ringgate bandwagon, the camera is reversed so... RightHandRingFinger!' Meanwhile, whether Eamonn takes the next step with Katie or not, our source claims that Ruth is focused on the future. ‌ They said: 'As all her friends are saying, Ruth has never looked or felt better. She's rested, she's looking great, she's enjoying her Pilates sessions and life is good.' The source adds, 'Ruth is literally living her best life. She knows Eamonn is happy with Katie and she's really not bothered about what his future plans are. 'She's putting everything into looking after herself and her career right now, which she loves. The only thing holding her back is the divorce – it's going on way too long and she just wants it to be over so she can get on with her life.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
