Gauff dropped to 2-3 since winning the French Open. Gauff had five double-faults Saturday after having 23 in her opener against Danielle Collins and 14 against Veronika Kudermetova.
The 18-year-old Mboko, ranked 85th in the world, will face the winner of the late match between Lin Zhu of China and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain.

Jerome Blake breaks national championship meet record to win men's 200 title
OTTAWA – Jerome Blake broke the Canadian track and field championship record running 19.95 seconds to win the men's 200-metre title on Sunday. The previous meet record was held by Brendon Rodney — Blake's teammate on Canada's Olympic champion 4×100 men's relay team — who ran 19.96 in 2016. The time was also a personal best for Blake, who turns 30 on Aug. 18. Toronto's Aaron Brown (20.08), also a teammate of Blake's on the relay team, and Ottawa's Eliezer Adjibi (20.60) finished second and third, respectively. Blake, from Kelowna, B.C., and Brown both met the 200 qualifying standard time (20.16) for the upcoming world championships in Tokyo in September. Blake also has the standard in the 100, having ran a personal-best time of 9.97 seconds on June 21 at a meet in Germany. He did not compete in the 100 final on Friday due to being disqualified for a false start in the semifinals. This report by The Canadian Press was first published Aug. 3, 2025.

The 19-year-old Hato, who has been capped six times by his country, has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge. He becomes the Blues' eighth signing of the summer transfer window. 'I'm very excited,' Hato, who can operate in central defense or at left back, told the Premier League club's website. 'I thought a lot about my future and wanted to take the next step in my career. Chelsea is the best place for me to do that so I'm very happy.' Hato joined Ajax's academy from hometown club Sparta Rotterdam in 2018 and signed his first professional contract aged 16 four years later. He scored four goals in 111 appearances for the Eredivisie team, with his international debut coming as a substitute in a 6-0 win against Gibraltar in November 2023. Chelsea starts its Premier League season on Aug. 17 at home to Crystal Palace. ___ AP soccer:
