Mo Amer to perform two back-to-back shows at Dubai Comedy Festival 2025
Mo Amer is the latest headliner announced for 2025's Dubai Comedy Festival. The Palestinian-American comedian and star of the hit Netflix series Mo will perform two shows at Dubai Opera on October 9. He joins a number of artists, including Tom Segura and Omid Djalili, slated to perform as part of the festival at various venues. The Dubai Opera performances mark Amer's return to the festival for the first time since its inaugural event in 2020. Since then, a star has risen through Mo, the semi-autobiographical Netflix series about a Palestinian refugee navigating life in the US, in addition to well-received roles in the sitcom Ramy, alongside Egyptian-American comedian and creator Ramy Youssef, and in Black Adam, opposite Dwayne Johnson. Amer's return also comes on the back of the second and final season of Mo, which features an acclaimed episode in which the main character makes his long-awaited visit to Palestine. In an interview with The National, Amer recalled the emotional experience of the episode, titled A Call from God. 'It was really hard. You're picking at a scab. You're picking at memories at a very difficult time, with everything that's going on. It was important to be as honest as possible, as grounded as possible,' he said. 'I just had to dig deep and push my own feelings aside and make sure that we made a realistic portrayal of what it's like to be in the West Bank as a Palestinian.' As for his Dubai show, which follows a US tour and a coming special, Amer said he has plenty of experiences to share. 'I've still got so much to do. There's so much to tell,' he said. 'I have so many scripts behind me. I've got another comedy special to film. It doesn't end here.'

The tributes, created with advanced artificial intelligence tools, conveyed messages of pride and deep gratitude, reflecting the enduring impact Sheikh Mohammed has had as a leader, father, and visionary. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense of the UAE, shared a heartfelt video on his social media account that used AI-generated imagery to show moments with his father, both from his childhood and in recent years. According to the official UAE Government Portal, Sheikh Mohammed was born in 1949. He was appointed Head of Dubai Police and Public Security on November 1, 1968. In December 1971, he became the UAE's first Minister of Defence. He was named Crown Prince of Dubai from January 1995 until January 2006. On January 4, 2006, he became the Ruler of Dubai. Additionally, he was appointed Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE in 2006, and he continues to serve in these roles today.

Malhaar Ensemble to represent UAE-India cultural legacy at New York's Carnegie Hall
Dubai's Malhaar Ensemble will perform at the Stern Auditorium/ Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall, New York, on July 19. The performance is part of the sixth New York Big Apple Music Festival, a prestigious gathering of global artistic talent. Malhaar will present A Tune of Harmony – Celebrating UAE's Unity in Diversity, a 30-minute, multi-sensory production that bridges ancient Indian traditions with the UAE's multicultural spirit. Featuring 30 performers—including lead vocalists, Indian classical musicians, Kathak dancers, and a children's choir, the performance is directed by Jogiraj Sikidar, founder of Malhaar. The original score is composed by Malhaar Guru Deborshee Mukherjee, with Kathak choreography by Druhi Dangi. 'This isn't just a performance — it's a cultural statement,' Sikidar said in a statement. 'From the heart of Dubai to the halls of Carnegie, we are telling the story of tolerance, creativity, and the cultural soul of the UAE.' Structured in three thematic acts — Raag Bhairavi-based chants, Bengali folk traditions, and a contemporary Sufi Qawwali fusion — the presentation offers an evocative journey across India's musical diversity, anchored in the inclusive values of the UAE. The festival lineup includes acclaimed groups such as the United Nations Singers, Celadon Stars World Orchestra, and the New York International Symphony Orchestra, under the unifying theme Echoes of Humanity: From Origins to Unity. Joining as lead vocalist is Dr Somdutta Singh, Dubai-based entrepreneur and founder and CEO of Assiduus Global Inc., who will be performing alongside her guru, Jogiraj Sikidar.
