Former Habs Prospect Moves From Finland To Germany
Last season, his first playing in Europe, Abbandonato led Finnish Liiga club Jukurit with 51 points in 61 games.
'Peter has already impressed in the minor leagues in North America and has also showcased his skills in his first season in Europe,' said Ingolstadt sports director Tim Regan. 'He has a good understanding of the game and strong skating skills. He is primarily used as a center, but can also play on the wings, which gives us even more versatility.'
'I'd been in contact with Tim for some time, and we had very good discussions; however, the opportunity to return to the AHL also presented itself,' said Abbandonato. 'Ultimately, it was important to me to carefully consider my options and make the best decision. After intensive discussions, I chose Ingolstadt, because I think the conditions here are right for success.'
Born in Laval, Que., Abbandonato played junior hockey for the QMJHL's Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and took part in two Memorial Cups. In 2018-19, he recorded 111 points in 68 regular-season games, followed by 32 points in 21 post-season games as the Huskies won the Memorial Cup.
Undrafted, Abbandonato has spent the past five seasons in the minor-league systems of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Penguins. He has recorded 123 points in 214 AHL games and 51 points in 49 ECHL games.
Abbandonato's 6-Point Game Gives Jukurit Lead In Finnish Playout Series With just 12 regulation wins in 60 games, Jukurit Mikkeli finished last in the 16-team Finnish Liiga. The team is now in the midst of a best-of-seven playout series with the 15th-place Lahti Pelicans, with the loser facing a relegation series against the winner of the second-tier Mestis.
Highlights of Abbandonato's season in Finland included a four-point effort in the team's season-opening 7-3 victory and a six-point game in a play-out series against the Lahti Pelicans, in which Jukurit successfully avoided relegation.
'First and foremost, I would describe myself as an offensive playmaker, but it's also important to me to be a reliable player in all zones,' Abbandonato described.
He joins an Ingolstadt team that finished first in last year's DEL regular season but was eliminated by Kölner Haie in the semifinals. Thanks to that first-place finish, however, Ingolstadt has qualified for the Champions Hockey League in 2025-26.
The team's roster also includes ex-NHLers Riley Barber, Kenny Agostino and Morgan Ellis.

ATP Canada best bets: Denis Shapovalov vs. Learner Tien odds, picks, predictions
Gambling content 21+. The New York Post may receive an affiliate commission if you sign up through our links. Read our editorial standards for more information. Denis Shapovalov will ride into his hometown tournament with plenty of confidence. The World No. 29 bounced back from sluggish performances on the clay and grass courts in Europe by making it to the final in Los Cabos two weeks ago. Shapovalov eventually fell to Aleksandar Kovacevic in the final, but it was an encouraging sign that the Canadian shot-maker was back in his comfort zone on the hard courts of North America. 'El Shapo' won a title on the hard courts of Dallas earlier this year and then followed that with an impressive run to the semifinals in Acapulco. But there's something about coming home that doesn't sit quite right with the Toronto native. Shapovalov became the youngest player to ever make it to the semifinals of the Canadian Masters in 2017, but he's never come close to matching that showing in the years since. The 26-year-old is 3-5 in this event since his historic run, and he's lost his last four matches in Canada. American Learner Tien in action at ATP Toronto. John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images There's never been a question about Shapovalov's talent, but he tends to unravel quickly when things get away from him on court, and that pressure only becomes more pronounced when he's playing in front of his hometown fans. Shapovalov's tendency to spiral makes him a tough player to back as a chunky favorite, which is where he stands for Tuesday's match against rising American talent Learner Tien, who has four wins in five matches since Wimbledon. Whitecaps clear to do Thomas Muller deal after ‘discovery rights' agreement with Cincinnati
Vancouver Whitecaps and FC Cincinnati have agreed to terms on a trade that will send Thomas Muller's MLS 'discovery rights' to Vancouver in exchange for up to $400,000 in general allocation money (GAM). The agreement is a major hurdle cleared in the Whitecaps' push to sign the 35-year-old. GAM is an MLS roster accounting function that essentially serves as extra cap space. Advertisement Muller is expected to sign a deal that will not require a designated player (DP) spot in 2025, but would jump to a DP deal in 2026. The Athletic reported on July 28 that the Whitecaps were in talks with Muller over a potential deal, with the move pending an agreement between the Canadian team and FC Cincinnati for Muller's MLS 'discovery' rights. Discovery rights are a mechanism whereby MLS teams claim the right to negotiate with a player. FC Cincinnati previously negotiated with Muller after his representatives reached out to the club last winter. Sources said the asking price for the discovery rights from Cincinnati, which spent months working on the deal for Muller, is in the neighborhood of the $400,000 that Charlotte received from the LA Galaxy for Marco Reus' rights. Cincinnati's co-CEO Jeff Berding said in June the club had made a 'good offer' to Muller. 'We had several discussions with his advisors,' Berding told German outlet Bild. 'In the end, he has many options. We respect if he and his advisors are looking for something else. That's part of the football business.' Muller's departure from Bayern Munich at the end of the 2024-25 season was confirmed in April. He had served the entirety of his 17-year senior career at the Bundesliga club. Muller made 756 appearances for the club, scoring 250 goals. He helped Bayern win 13 Bundesliga titles, eleven of which came in consecutive seasons from 2012 to 2023 in a dominant decade for the Bavarians, and he also won the Champions League in 2013 and 2020. The former Germany international, whose role as a second striker saw him coin the position renowned as 'raumdeuter,' said Bayern 'consciously decided not to negotiate a new contract' and he 'respect(ed) this step'. Despite largely being restricted to a substitute role during the 2024-25 campaign, Muller made 49 appearances in all competitions, providing eight goals and eight assists. Advertisement After limited appearances at the 2024 European Championship, Muller retired from international football. He won the World Cup with Germany in 2014 and earned 131 caps for his country, scoring 45 goals. Analysis by Paul Tenorio Muller certainly becomes one of the biggest names to come to MLS in the latter stages of his career, joining some of the luminaries of the sport. The early days of MLS saw the likes of Hristo Stoichkov and Lothar Matthaus sign in the league, while David Beckham's arrival in 2007 marked a new era. Players like Thierry Henry, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Kaka, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and, of course, Lionel Messi have since made moves to the U.S. Muller, 35, will be joining a team with championship aspirations that is currently challenging for first place in the Western Conference. Of the above names, only Beckham won anMLS Cup title.

Inter Milan have sold Canadian wingback Tajon Buchanan to Villarreal for a reported fee of €9 million. According to Calcio e Finanza via FCInterNews, Buchanan's sale generated a €4.1 million capital gain for the club. Tajon Buchanan joined Inter Milan from Club Brugge in January 2024 for around €7 million. However, his career at San Siro never took off. As such, Inter sent him out on a short-term loan to Villarreal in the second half of last season. In addition to paying Inter around €9 million, they have agreed to give the Nerazzurri 20% of any future transfer fee. That's more than a good deal for the Serie A giants. Indeed, Buchanan's market value plummeted to just over €6.5 million as of June 30, 2024. After just one season, it decreased to a mere €4.9 million, meaning Inter's capital gain on the 2025/26 accounts will amount to €4.1 million.
