Irondequoit scored twice in the final 12 seconds of the third quarter to break a 5-5 tie and never looked back in a 9-7 home win over Canandaigua Tuesday night. The Grey Wolves are currently ranked 12th in the New York State Sportswriters Class B poll.
Shannon Seymour got the go-ahead goal with 12 seconds left after a CA turnover left the ball bouncing free right in front of the net. The next play was about as efficient as it gets.
Irondequoit won the faceoff and Lila Velepec got a head of steam across the Canandaigua restraining line. She fed Marin Jaeger at the top of the 8-meter arc who one-touched a pass to Revlie Genier on the crease. Genier fired without hesitation over the goalie's head with 0.6 seconds left to double the Irondequoit lead.
The Eagles scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to go in front 9-5 and cruised home from there.
The domination of the last 12 seconds of the third quarter did not compare to what Irondequoit did in the entirety of the second.
Canandaigua could barely even clear the ball out of their own half and did not have a shot attempt the entire second period. Irondequoit got a pair of goals from Lucy Whipple sandwiched around one from Ellie Bottiglier and took a 5-2 lead to halftime.
The Grey Wolves owned the third quarter. At least the first 11:48. Lola Schorr found the back of the net 13 seconds into the period and Samantha Lupton scored a pair to draw CA even before Irondequoit's late flurry.
Whipple led Irondequoit with three goals. Seymour and Grace Bottiglier added two more for the Eagles.
Lupton had a hat trick of her own for Penfield while Schorr and Kiera Gioseffi each finished with two goals and an assist.
Irondequoit snapped a four-game losing streak to even their record at 4-4. Canandaigua fell to 5-4.

Primetime 585 Spotlight Team: Canandaigua boys lacrosse

After earning a spot in the Class B state championship, the Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the Week is the Canandaigua boys lacrosse team. The Gray Wolves have had quite the path to the state finals. It started in their sectional final game, where they knocked off defending champion Victor 11-10. Canandaigua then faced Lake Shore in its regional game, defeating the Section VI team 15-6. The Gray Wolves built an early lead with seven goals in the first quarter and never looked back. Patrick Olvany had three goals in the win, and Drew Williamee had five assists to go with his two goals. Goalie Quentin Shedrick recorded a 75% save rate in the matchup. Nine different Gray Wolves found the back of the net in the regional win — a stat that proves head coach Deven York's philosophy that every player on his roster has something to contribute. 'From the beginning, we've been an all-in, everybody, top-bottom mentality,' York said. 'Everybody on the team's got a role, everybody's role is just as important. These guys embrace it, so that's how we roll.' In the state semifinals, Canandaigua defeated Christian Brothers Academy of Section III 17-11. Mike Belles led the way with six goals and added two assists. Ryan Bremer tallied four goals and an assist, while Jack Stanney picked up three goals and Williamee added two. After the win, Stanney spoke on the excitement of the state championship, especially as it will feel like a home game with just a short trip to Hobart and William Smith Colleges. 'We're excited to be back there,' Stanney said. 'It's in our home turf, it's going to be a lot of people there cheering for us. We're excited for it. It's going to be a good time. It's going to be fun.' The last time Canandaigua made an appearance in the state finals was in 2022 when Williamee was a freshman. The senior has grown a lot since then, learning what it takes to get ready for the high-stakes games. 'As an individual, I don't feel pressure anymore,' Williamee said. 'You've just got to get yourself comfortable. Everybody has their own little mojo that they've got to do to get themselves ready. But, it's just another game.' Canandaigua will face off against Garden City of Section VIII on Friday, June 13th at 5:30 p.m. Congratulations to the Gray Wolves for being this week's Primetime 585 Spotlight Team! Canandaigua, Penn Yan punch tickets to state finals

Class B Canandaigua 17, CBA-Syracuse 11 The Grey Wolves scored six in the first and six in the second on their way to a dominating state semifinal win at SUNY Cortland Wednesday afternoon. Canandaigua improves to 19-2 and advances to the Class B final Saturday at Hobart where they will face Garden City from Long Island. The first faceoff is set for 5:30pm. Class C Penn Yan 17, Ogdensburg Free Academy 10 Penn Yan finished the game on a 10-1 run to flip a second half deficit into a comfortable state semifinal victory. Freshman faceoff specialist Greyson Hathway entered the game ten faceoff wins short of the New York state record for wins in a season and easily blew by that number. The Mustangs are now 20-2 after their sixth straight win. They will play for the Class C state title Saturday at Hobart against Chenango Forks from Binghamton's Section IV. Faceoff is scheduled for 12:30pm. Class A West Genesee 16, Penfield 6 Harrison Easton got the first goal of the game for Penfield, but West Genny reeled off the next ten and held the Patriots scoreless for 25 minutes to make the second half of this state semifinal academic. The Wildcats proved convincingly why they are one win away from a perfect season. Penfield still put together an impressive turnaround from an 0-5 start with a state final four appearance and a 13-8 record. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Irondequoit advances in OT; Pittsford pulls away late

(5)Irondequoit 6, (4)Hilton 5 F/OT Colin Giudice scored the game winner with 23 seconds left in overtime as the Eagles won a tightly contested Class B quarterfinal Tuesday night at Hilton. Gianluca Auriuso scored with 12 seconds remaining for the Cadets to force overtime. It was the final goal of six total in the fourth quarter which matched the combined goals scored in the other three periods plus overtime. Hilton scored the only two goals in the first quarter. It was the only time either team led by more than one. The Eagles erased that deficit with the first two in the second period, but Braydon Pike netted in the final minute of the half to give Hilton a 3-2 lead at the break. After a scoreless third, Ryan Avery and Kyle Taddeo exchanged goals 15 seconds apart in the first 21 seconds of the fourth quarter. Giudice and Cooper Moore each scored in a 50-second span to put Irondequoit in front before Auriuso equalized. Moore and Giudice each scored twice to lead Irondequoit. Avery had a goal and an assist. Auriuso led all scorers with two goals and a helper. Taddeo added two for the Cadets. Irondequoit moves on to Saturday's semifinals where they will face top-seeded Canandaigua. The Eagles are now 12-6. Hilton finished their year at 12-5. (3)Pittsford 7, (6)Brighton 2 Cole Goetz had a hat trick as Pittsford pulled away in the second half for a Class B quarterfinal win at Sutherland High School. The game was only 1-1 at the halftime as both defense dominated. Logan Serve finished with 14 saves for the Bruins. Eighth grader Bear Wehrheim had 10 for the Panthers. Pittsford started the second half two men up and Goetz got the go-ahead goal just after the penalties expired 14 seconds into the third quarter. Longpole Dane Lewis doubled the lead with just over five minutes left in the period. The Panthers struck twice in the final 35 seconds. Avery Valenti first wired one low. Then, Charlie Ryan found Jahyden Maiorani with only eight seconds left. A 5-1 lead was insurmountable with the two defenses in this game and Pittsford salted the win away in the fourth quarter. Cole's brother Brady assisted on two of his goals. Valenti and Grant Lewis each had a goal and an assist for the Panthers. Miles McGuire and Ben Marangola had the two Brighton goals. Pittsford moves on to face (2)Victor in Saturday's semifinals at Wayne High School. The Panthers improved to 13-3. Brighton had an 11-game win streak snapped and finished at 13-5. The last team to beat the Bruins was also Pittsford. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
