Hundreds of students take part in anti-drug awareness rallies at Nellore, Ongole
In Nellore, a rally was conducted from RTC Bus Stand to Kasturbha Kalakshetram, which was followed by a human chain formation at KVR Circle. A meeting was held later at Kasturba Kalakshetram. The events were hosted as per the directions from the State government to create awareness against drug abuse. Along with 600 students, Superintendent of Police (SP) G. Krishnakanth, Joint Collector K. Karthik and several officials participated in the programme.
Meanwhile in Ongole, an awareness programme was organised at the Police Parade Grounds, from where a rally was conducted till Addanki Bus Stand Centre. Over 1,000 people, including students, self-help group (SHG) women, ASHA workers, anganwadi staff, other employees, and people participated in this rally.
Prakasam SP A.R. Damodar encouraged the participants to scan a QR code created as part of the 'Nisha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' programme and enter their name and other details to avail a certificate of participation in the anti-drug campaign.

62 complaints received in Makkal Mandram programme held at police stations
Around 207 persons participated in the weekly grievance redressal programme 'Makkal Mandram' held at various police stations across the Union Territory on Saturday. A press release said various police stations in the Union Territory received 62 complaints during the redressal programme organised by the Police Department. Of the total complaints received, 37 have been resolved. Directions have been issued to the concerned police stations to dispose the remaining complaints at the earliest, the release said. While the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Law and Order, R. Sathiyasundaram, attended the programme held at the Orleanpet police station, Senior Superintendent of Police, Law and Order, R. Kalaivanan was present at D. Nagar police station. This initiative will continue every week from 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. where senior police officers will visit one police station in their jurisdiction to directly listen and address public complaints.

Pune: Police say will probe source of drugs, accused lawyer claims bid to frame
The seven accused arrested over alleged drug seizure from an apartment in Pune, where they were allegedly partying, were remanded in police custody till July 29. Dr Pranjal Khewalkar, husband of a prominent NCP (SP) leader Rohini Khadse and son-in law of former Maharashtra minister Eknath Khadse, was among the seven accused remanded by the court of judicial magistrate (first class) N S Bari. Police told the court that they want to investigate the source of the contraband seized and added the two of the accused had prior criminal records. Khewalkar's lawyer Vijaysinh Thombre raised doubts that police may have planted the contraband seized in this case for 'political' reasons. According to the police, they raided apartment number 102 of the Staybird Azure Suite building in Kharadi around 3.20 am. Police sources said that Khewalkar had booked the apartment days in his name. During the raid, police 2.7 grams of substance suspected to be cocaine, 70 grams of substances suspected to be marijuana. Police said Dr Khewalkar was found at the spot along with cigarette trader Nikhil Jethanand Poptani (35) of DSK Sundarban, who was booked in an online cricket betting racket case registered at Kondhwa police station in May 2023. Construction businessman Shripad Mohan Yadav (27) of Akurdi, was earlier booked in three criminal cases of gambling, cheating and allegedly causing hurt to a government servant on duty, was also among the accused who were present at the spot. Four others including a hardware businessman Sameer Fakir Mohammed Sayyed (41) of NIBM Road, a private company employee Sachin Sonaji Bhombe (42) of Wagholi, and two women Isha Devjyot Singh (22) of Aundh and Prachi Gopal Sharma (23) from Mahalunge, who were present at the spot, police said. All seven were arrested under sections of the NDPS) Act and Cigaretts and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act (COTPA) at the Kharadi police station. Seeking the police custody of the accused for seven days, Assistant public prosecutor Priyanka Vengurlekar argued that 2.7 grams of cocaine, which is an 'intermediate quatity' of drugs, was seized from the accused. Investigation is being done to know from where the contraband was purchased, she said. Police said a probe was on to know the main accused in this case and investigate whether any accused have links with any inter-state drug smuggling racket. Police also told the court they want to investigate the accused on why three rooms in 'Staybird' were booked from July 25 to July 28. Police said interrogation of the accused was required for searching three persons who are known to have visited the hotel premises. Police are also probing the role of two women arrested in this case. Meanwhile, during the argument prosecution lawyer Vengurlekar called it a case of 'rave party', to which defence lawyers told the court that it cannot be termed so. Defence lawyer Thombre argued that drugs were neither consumed by Khewalkar nor recovered from his possession, so the charges against him under NDPS Act are false and made with political purposes. During his arguments, Thombre claimed that police may have planted the drugs to frame Khewalkar. Lawyers representing other accused argued their police custody was not essential. Intensive drives under way against traffic violations: Mangaluru City Traffic Police
The Mangaluru City Traffic Police on Sunday said intensive drives were being conducted against traffic violations in the Commissionerate limits by booking cases and imposing fines. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) K. Ravishankar was responding to complaints of violations at the SC/ST grievances redressal meeting here. Reacting to activist Jagadish Pandeshwara's complaints of students riding two-wheelers without helmet in Pandeshwara and surrounding areas, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Najma Farooqi said that 78 cases of 'riding without a helmet' have been booked by the Mangaluru Traffic South Police in July and ₹38,600 fine was collected. The traffic east police booked 25 cases of triple-riding and riding without helmets. Besides, 655 cases were registered for riding without helmet through the Integrated Traffic Management System cameras, while 49 such cases were booked through Field Traffic Violation Report (FTVR). The traffic south station inspector said that 113 traffic violation cases were booked in Ullal area, along with 213 violations recorded through FTVR. Unauthorised market Activist Girish Kumar voiced concern over unauthorised vegetable markets operating under the Thokkottu Flyover on Panvel-Kochi National Highway 66. Besides causing hygiene concerns, such operations also affect vehicular movement on the service roads, he said. Mr. Kumar appreciated the police guidelines barring the use of DJ music during processions and public functions. Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said violators would be booked under the relevant provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita. He also said public can call 112 to complain about the nuisance.
