Youth arrested for trying to murder schoolboy near Coimbatore
The arrested youth has been identified as M Vasanthakumar, 23, of RR Kulam at Palladam in Tirupur district.
He is a butcher.
Vasanthakumar attempted to kill a 14-year-old boy, who was studying in Class VIII at a govt school and staying at a govt hostel at Samalapuram near Palladam in Tirupur district.
On Friday, he didn't go to school and was planning to go home. He asked for a lift from a motorcyclist. The motorcyclist asked the schoolboy if he wanted to roam around Somanur and surrounding areas with him on the motorcycle. The boy agreed.
The youth took the boy to a TASMAC outlet where he bought liquor and then to a dilapidated building at Kadampadi where he consumed it. He forced the boy to drink liquor.
"The youth showed pornographic videos to the boy and attempted homosexual activities with him. When the minor objected, the youth took a stone and struck on the back of the boy's head. The boy fell unconscious. He left the minor at the building and escaped," said Coimbatore district superintendent of police Dr P Karthikeyan.

The boy regained consciousness and managed to get out despite his injuries, eventually collapsing on the road. Locals alerted Sulur police who admitted him to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital where his condition is now reported to be stable.
Initially, the boy claimed that four people on two motorcycles had kidnapped him. "We confirmed that the boy travelled with only one youth who has confessed to the crime," said the SP.

'Stay out of way': INLD chief Abhay Chautala gets death threat; son lodges police complaint
NEW DELHI: Indian National Lok Dal chief Abhay Singh Chautala on Tuesday received a death threat from an unknown person asking the leader to "stay out of their way" or face the consequences, PTI reported. The threat was received via his son Karan Chautala over voice message. He has lodged a complaint with Chandigarh police. He was warned to tell his father to 'stay out of their way,' or risk meeting the same fate as 'the pradhan', a likely reference to INLD state chief Nafe Singh Rathee, who was shot dead in Bahadurgarh in February 2024. The same number also sent a message to Abhay Chautala's private secretary, calling it a 'final warning,' according to the complaint. He said that he received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number around 11pm on Tuesday, but it was quickly disconnected. Soon after, he got a voice note from a foreign number, in which the caller allegedly used abusive language targeting his father. Reacting to this, MLA Arjun Chautala said, "We cannot allow this state to become a gangster state. What is the law and order situation today, everyone knows. We will raise our voice for our people, we cannot sit at home. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brain tumor has left my son feeling miserable; please help! Karan noted that his father received a similar threat in July 2023, after which he was given Y-category security. Referring to the 2024 killing of INLD's state chief, with the attackers still unidentified, he noted that his family has been vocal on issues like drugs and law and order in Haryana. Fearing for their safety, he urged police to trace the sender and protect Chautala's entire family.

'Udaipur files': SC defers hearing to July 21; asks police to assess threats to film makers and Kanhaiya Lal's son
File Image NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Centre committee to decide on the release and certification of 'Udaipur Files,' "immediately without delay," understanding the urgency expressed by the makers of the film. The committee is scheduled to address the matter at 2:30 pm, with the Court deferring further hearings until Monday. "The Competent Authority (of the Central government) has taken cognisance of the revision petition over the release of the film pending before it and will be heard at 2:30 pm today," stated a bench led by Justice Surya Kant, scheduling the next hearing for July 21, Monday. "Having regard to the nature of the proceedings, we expect that the committee constituted by the CG will decide the revision petition immediately without delay. Post the matter for further consideration on Monday", the Court said in its order. The Court permitted Mohammad Jawed, the accused in the matter, to present his concerns regarding a fair trial before the Central committee. The committee was instructed to provide him with a fair hearing. The film producers and the deceased Kanhaiya Lal's son reported receiving death threats. The Court authorised them to seek protection from their respective Superintendent of Police (SP), who were instructed to evaluate the threats and take necessary protective measures. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Senior Advocate Gaurab Bhatia, representing the filmmakers, argued for the Supreme Court to decide the matter, citing financial losses and infringement of free speech rights due to the stay on release. The petitioners' counsels, Kapil Sibal and Maneka Guruswamy, contended that the film's release would compromise the accused's right to a fair trial and portrayed the Muslim community negatively. "Once I saw the movie, I was shaken. If any judge were to see that, it is a complete thematic desecration of the case. It's the vilification of an entire community. Violence, homosexuality, denigration of women, and child abuse have been attributed to the community. It is unthinkable that a democratic nation will allow this movie to be certified," Sibal and Maneka Guruswamy said. Bhatia responded by highlighting the beheading incident and subsequent video uploads. He noted that the film had incorporated all 55 CBFC-directed cuts before certification. The Court concluded by directing the Central government committee to make an immediate decision while scheduling the next hearing for Monday.
