USC football holds first practice of its 2025 preseason camp
The practice marked the first of 26 camp sessions for USC. Some of those will be open to the media, while others will be closed. Head coach Lincoln Riley and defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn will both give interviews at least once per week, with other coaches and players potentially available to speak at various points throughout camp.
'Great first day,' Riley said following Wednesday's practice. 'Thought the staff, guys, really attacked it. Was really impressed with the conditioning level, discipline of the team coming out of the summer.
'Guys came in in shape, ready to go. We're pretty healthy right now.'
The Trojans are coming off a year in which they finished 7-6 with a Las Vegas Bowl victory over Texas A&M. Heading into year two in the Big Ten, USC will look to demonstrate a significant improvement on the field in 2025.

USC football countdown to kickoff—Vavae Malepeai in focus
The countdown to USC's 2025 football season is officially on! The Trojans kick off their new campaign 29 days from today. You need something to help you while away the days and hours in the spring and summer. This is one way to do so. In this new series, countdown to kickoff, we will be counting down the days by highlighting a notable Trojan who wore each number. Today, we look at former USC running back Vavae Malepeai. Position: Running back Years played at USC: 2016-2021 Career highlights: Although never the flashiest running back, Malepeai was Mr. Consistent for USC. After redshirting in 2016 and serving in a backup role in 2017, Malepeai was one of the Trojans' two primary backs for each of the past two seasons. In 2018, 2019, and 2021, he finished with over 500 rushing yards and at least six touchdowns. Malepeai wore number 29 for his first five years at USC, before switching to number six for his final season in 2021. Watch: Breck Kolojay announces college commitment
IMG Academy (Florida) four-star offensive lineman Breck Kolojay accumulated nearly 40 scholarship offers during his celebrated recruitment. But he'll narrow it down to just one school Friday at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET when he announces his college commitment. WATCH: The 6-foot-5 1/2, 320-pound lineman is down to a final five of Colorado, Georgia, Miami, Oklahoma and USC - all of whom received an official visit in the late spring/early summer. Kolojay, who has position versatility, is rated the nation's No. 332 overall prospect and No. 30 interior offensive lineman by On3/Rivals. He is believed to be a Trojans lean entering the final hours, but anything can happen, especially with contenders Colorado, Miami and Oklahoma still in play. For USC, Kolojay would represent a major win, as the program has significant needs remaining up front and the IMG Academy star has the requisite size and experience to potentially contribute early. Here's what 247Sports had to say about him, in part, as a prospect: "Advanced offensive line prospect with college-ready size that's tracking to be a two-year starter at IMG Academy. ...Stands tall with a frame that's pushing 6-foot-6 and carrying over 300 pounds, but lacks the reach that everyone desires to cover the corner. ...At his best working in tight quarters where he can time up his strikes and dance with his lower half. ...Will unlock a mean streak and take assignments into the turf. ...Could push for playing time relatively early as he will arrive with a higher floor like many of the IMG Academy offensive linemen that came before him."
