Valencia secure €322m funding to finally complete Nou Mestalla stadium
Valencia have announced the securing of €322million in funding organised through Goldman Sachs which the La Liga club say will allow them to finally complete the long-delayed new Nou Mestalla stadium.
The 70,000-capacity stadium is now due to be ready in 2027, with Valencia's announcement saying a €237m loan would be paid back over 28 years, while €85 million of the financing would be prepaid from selling the land on which its current Mestalla ground sits.

'This marks a historic milestone for Valencia CF,' Valencia president Kiat Lim said in the statement.
'Securing this landmark financing gives us the green light to deliver Nou Mestalla — a world-class stadium that will power the club's growth for generations. It is the clearest expression of our long-term commitment to Valencia, and a reflection of the trust and confidence the club now commands in global financial markets.
'With this agreement, we are building more than a stadium — we are building the future of Valencia CF.'
Valencia's new stadium was first announced in November 2006, and work started the following August. Work was halted in February 2009, when the club's then owners ran out of money, after around €100m had already been spent constructing a concrete bowl base.
Current club owner Peter Lim (Kiat's father) was then involved in a long-running dispute with the local authorities over permits required for construction, which were finally resolved ahead of work restarting at the site in January 2025.
€80m from La Liga's deal with private equity fund CVC has already been committed to paying for the new stadium, with over €30m also raised through the sale of over 40,000 square metres of space beside the new ground for the construction of two residential and commercial towers.
Among the club's legacy financial problems inherited by Lim was an €89m loan with local lender Caixabank, for which the old stadium was collateral.
Last November, Valencia announced a debt restructuring which included a long-term corporate facility of €121m and a short-term bridging loan facility of €65m, provided by Goldman Sachs.
Nou Mestalla will also feature around 7,000 VIP seats and facilities for non-football events, so the stadium can provide a boost to club revenues, help pay back the costs of construction, and their other existing liabilities.
Valencia fans might receive the news of the new financing agreement with mixed feelings.
The Lim family are very unpopular in the city, with regular protests against their ownership, so this apparent reaffirmation of their long-term commitment makes a sale of the club in the short or medium-term seems less likely.

There is also a deep emotional connection to the Mestalla ground, currently the oldest in La Liga, where Valencia have played since 1923.
The 2027 completion date also puts the new stadium back in the running for games when Spain co-hosts the 2030 World Cup, after it was left out of the initial Spanish federation plan for the tournament.

Germany coach Christian Wück is not setting up strict rules on his players' social media activities and is also convinced of their maturity when it comes to planned visits from family and friends at the upcoming women's Euros. Wück told reporters on Saturday at Germany's pre-tournament camp in Herzogenaurach that the players have been educated on social media from the junior level onwards at the national federation DFB. Advertisement "If we now have to talk to grown-ups about what they are allowed to and what not then it is more or less too late," the former men's U17 coach said. Wück said the DFB is paying a lot of attention to "prepare the young players for what happens in social media." Spokeswoman Annette Seitz referred to the DFB's social media department which is monitoring various platforms. She said that "the players are handling it very responsibly" and added on potential shitstorms and hate comments: "Should something be coming from the other side about which we have to talk then we will do that." Advertisement Wück also expects common sense from his players when it comes to planned visits from family members and friends the day after each match at the team hotel in Zurich - into which they will move on Monday ahead of their first game against Poland on Friday. "That's exactly how I envisage the whole thing: We want a feel-good oasis, so to say. But of course we also want the players to perform at their best," Wück said. "I think it's a give and take. And so far it's working very, very well."

Bryan Mbeumo wants Manchester United move, but bids rejected A report from The Athletic says that Bryan Mbeumo has told Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur that he wants to join Manchester United if he leaves Brentford this summer. Per the report, Mbeumo is fully-focused on signing for United and he's made his mind up. But Brentford have also rejected United's latest bid of $85 million. The Cameroon striker, still just 25, has been consistently excellent over the last few seasons and his experience in the Premier League will be crucial to Ruben Amorim if he can get this deal over the line. It's also interesting that United are now going for proven Premier League stars from clubs outside the 'big six' rather than looking elsewhere in the world for their marquee signings. Arsenal eyeing up Eze A report from Sky Sports says that Arsenal are interested in signing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace. Per other reports, including this one from Ben Jacobs, there is a $93 million release clause for Eze and the fee can be paid in installments. Spurs have been linked with a move for Eze but it appears the England international could be heading to Arsenal. This feels like the right time for Eze, 26, to leave Palace after winning the FA Cup and qualifying the Eagles for Europe in the process. He has basically completed all he can achieve at Palace. Eze going to Arsenal makes so much sense for everyone. He slots into the category of Arsenal spending big money on proven Premier League stars such as Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. Eze could play off the left wing, or challenge Martin Odegaard for one of the midfield spots because Mikel Arteta is probably going to play two holding midfielders with Rice and expected new signing Martin Zubimendi likely to start there. Eze would give the Gunners something they don't really have: creativity and direct running from central areas in the final third. They have that with Bukayo Saka on the right and the likes of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli on the left, but Eze instantly gives opponents a whole world of problems to try and figure out. Once again, this move makes so much sense for both Eze and Arsenal. It's just all rather sensible.
