...You have to consider each film for impact, box office and social relevance, says jury head - and Swades director

We applaud all films, but we salute these chosen ones.'
Gowariker addressed the complexity of the selection process. He emphasised that the primary criterion for choosing winners was the impact of the film on audiences. He said, 'When it comes to the National Film Awards, it is definitely a difficult task. It needs a lot of deliberation, a lot of discussion. You have to consider each film for its impact, box office performance, and societal relevance especially across different languages.
' Asked specifically about the inclusion of The Kerala Story and whether the decision was unanimous, he responded, 'All our deliberations have been unanimous. Through our deliberations, through our discussions — until the jury arrived on the same plane with each other — we did not select the film. It has been unanimous.'
'Every
regional cinema
has its high time and low time'
This year, Hindi cinema seems to be the star at the National Film Awards. Responding to a query on whether Bengali cinema doesn't have that impact anymore, Ashutosh added, 'Every regional cinema has its high time and low time.
You suddenly see a wave of great cinema from Bengal, or from Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam — and then there are other times when you don't. It's constantly in flux. Why this wave happens, nobody can answer.
This year, we've seen equally important films from every region.'
A noticeable trend this year was the rise of debut directors. 'There were a large number of debut directors this year, which is a great thing,' Gowariker said, adding, 'There are so many more filmmakers coming in and creating their own voices to tell the stories they want to tell.'

Son of Sardaar 2 Day 4 India Box Office: Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur starrer swoops to a low on first Monday, adds only Rs 3 crore
Son Of Sardaar 2, directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and starring Ajay Devgn, Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan and others, had a poor opening weekend of just under Rs 25 crore net. The movie didn't get the required showcasing, and above that, the world of mouth of the movie was mixed to negative, resulting in no substantial weekend growth. On Monday, the movie dropped by over 60 percent, to add Rs 2.75 - 3 crore net. The total collections of the movie stand at Rs 27.50 crore and the week 1 heads for Rs 35 crore. The movie won't be able to capitalise on the open week 2 and a lifetime number of under Rs 50 crore net won't be surprising. The Day Wise India Net Collections Of Son Of Sardaar 2 Are As Under Day India Net Collections 1 Rs 7.25 crore 2 Rs 8.25 crore 3 Rs 9.25 crore 4 Rs 2.75 crore Total Rs 27.50 crore Son Of Sardaar 2 Gets Directly Impacted By The Blockbuster Run Of Mahavatar Narsimha (Hindi) Son Of Sardaar 2 had a bigger opening than Mahavatar Narsimha on its second Friday. However, the devotional animated movie performed better than the former on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, the collections are almost double and that says a lot about the acceptance of both the movies. Son Of Sardaar 2, Being A Sequel To A Hit Movie, Should Have Opened And Performed Better Son Of Sardaar 2, being a sequel to the hit Son Of Sardaar, should have had much better initials. However, Son Of Sardaar 2, despite the 50 percent recurring cast, hardly even looked or felt like the first Son Of Sardaar movie. Makers need to try hard to establish connection between both movies in the promos, else it is of no point. Audience is really smart to read into gimmicks and that is what has happened here too. To note, collections of Son Of Sardaar internationally aren't too pleasing either.

Urvashi slams National Award jury for labelling her ‘supporting actress' despite lead role
Veteran actor Urvashi, who won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 71st National Film Awards for her role in the acclaimed Malayalam drama 'Ullozhukku', has publicly challenged the jury's decision. She asked pointed questions about the criteria used, saying, 'This is not pension money to silently accept.' Urvashi argued that her role was clearly a leading one—she and Parvathy Thiruvothu were both in contention for Best Actress. Recalling a similar experience back in 2006, she highlighted perceived age bias and backstage politics. She has urged greater transparency, calling on Minister Suresh Gopi to examine the awards process and ensure fairness for Malayalam cinema.
