DULLES, Va. () — The Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is counting down to the big reveal of its new 435,000 square-foot concourse. In anticipation of the new addition, officials showed renderings of the new facility, Concourse E.
The state-of-the-art establishment will give passengers direct access from the airport's AeroTrain system, provide an enhanced customer experience and increase IAD's capacity for domestic and international flights.

Concourse E will feature over 46,000 square feet of new shopping opportunities, dining and other amenities. The new facility will come with 14 new gates, jetbridges at every gate, comfortable seating and direct access to the AeroTrain.
To top it all off, there will also be a new 40,000 square foot United Airlines club lounge and space on the upper level.
Officials said the new concourse fits the vision of the Dulles Airport Master Plan, which is designed to ensure that the airport evolves around continued growth.
IAD noted that its record-setting passenger growth is outpacing the current terminal gate capacity, especially for United Airlines.
The airport said that existing United Airlines gates A, C and D are fully utilized several times each day, leaving waiting areas and concession locations full. As a result, the United's waiting areas need more room to connect flyers.
Construction for Concourse E is expected to be completed by 2026.

Air India flight to London aborts takeoff due to technical issue

An Air India flight from Delhi to London was forced to abandon take-off just minutes before it was due to depart on Thursday. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner exited the runway due to a suspected technical issue, according to local reports. In a statement to PTI, an airline spokesperson said: 'Flight AI2017, operating from Delhi to London on July 31, returned to the bay due to a suspected technical issue." 'The cockpit crew decided to discontinue the take-off run following standard operating procedures and brought the aircraft back for precautionary checks.' Alternative travel arrangements were made for the passengers, with the airline dispatching another aircraft to fulfil the scheduled flight. Ground staff were also on hand to provide support to passengers. Another Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operated by United Airlines, was forced to make an emergency landing after the plane's turbine stopped working earlier this week. This year has seen multiple plane-related incidents making headlines worldwide, including the tragic Air India plane crash in June. Air India has found itself in hot water following the tragedy, with an aviation watchdog finding 51 safety-related faults at the company during its annual audit. Plane-related incidents in 2025 have included a plane crash in Washington DC which saw 67 die, an aviation disaster in Philadelphia in January, and incidents in Toronto, Alaska, Pennsylvania, and Chicago. On July 13, a plane crash took place at London's Southend airport, though no casualties were reported. The latest crash in Bangladesh saw 19 people lose their lives when an air force training plane crashed into a school campus in capital Dhaka. There is no sign that air travel is becoming more dangerous, with experts maintaining that air travel is still safer than travel by car. The National Safety Council in the US said Americans have a one in 93 chance of dying in a motor accident, while deaths on planes are too rare to calculate.

The Munich-bound flight from Washington Dulles Airport landed safely after more than 30 minutes in the air on July 25NEED TO KNOW United Airlines pilots declared a "Mayday" shortly after departing Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia last week The Munich-bound flight carrying 219 passengers experienced a left engine failure, according to radio recordings All passengers and crew deplaned safely after the "mechanical issue," according to a United spokespersonPilots operating a United Airlines flight declared 'Mayday' after experiencing an engine failure shortly after takeoff last week. On the evening of Friday, July 25, United flight 108 departed Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Virginia. The Munich-bound flight operating a Boeing 787 carried 219 passengers and 11 crew members. But as the plane ascended to 10,000 feet, the pilots noticed an issue. 'Failure, engine failure, left engine, United 108,' pilots told air traffic controllers in a recording obtained by You can see ATC on YouTube. 'Declaring an emergency.' 'Mayday, mayday, mayday,' they added while flying at 5,000 feet. Air traffic controllers immediately instructed the pilots to make a right turn and return to the airport, given the clear airspace. But as the plane turned around to land, the pilots determined the aircraft was too heavy since it was fueled for a transatlantic flight. It forced them to stay in the air until they were cleared to adjust the weight of the passenger jet. After closing a second loop around the airport and dumping the necessary amount of fuel, crews were able to land at IAD after more than 30 minutes in the air. All passengers and crew deplaned safely A spokesperson for Washington Dulles told PEOPLE the plane landed safely and was checked by Airports Authority Fire and Rescue personnel then towed to a gate. According to the airline, the plane experienced a 'mechanical issue.' Zooming in further, UAL has also outpaced the U.S. Global Jets ETF (JETS). The exchange-traded fund has gained about 25.1% over the past year. On Jul. 16, UAL posted its fiscal 2025 second-quarter earnings, and its shares popped 2.4%. It reported revenue of $15.2 billion, up 1.7% year-over-year, and an adjusted EPS of $3.87, beating estimates but down from last year's $4.14. Net income fell 26.4% to $973 million, though premium cabin and loyalty revenues saw healthy growth. Despite trimming its full-year EPS guidance to $9.00–$11.00, United remains optimistic, citing a strong rebound in travel demand and improving booking trends starting mid-July. For the current fiscal year, ending in December, analysts expect UAL's EPS to decline 2.6% to $10.33 on a diluted basis. The company's earnings surprise history is impressive. It beat the consensus estimate in each of the last four quarters. Among the 22 analysts covering UAL stock, the consensus is a 'Strong Buy.' That's based on 19 'Strong Buy' ratings, two 'Moderate Buy,' and one 'Hold.' This configuration is slightly more bullish than three months ago, when it had 18 'Strong Buy' ratings. On July 18, UBS Group AG (UBS) analyst Thomas Wadewitz raised United Airlines' price target from $103 to $114 while maintaining a 'Buy' rating, reflecting continued confidence in the airline's growth potential. The mean price target of $110 represents a 24.6% premium to UAL's current price levels. The Street-high price target of $140 suggests an ambitious upside potential of 58.5%.
