Tighe succeeds Peter Sachse, who will transition from his current role as CEO to executive chairman of the company's board.

'The hallmark of a strong and resilient organization is a well-developed succession plan, and John's promotion highlights the thoughtful, holistic talent strategy Tailored Brands has established," said Sachse, who was first appointed to the board in March 2021, and went on to lead the company's transformation as co-CEO alongside Bob Hull. In February 2024, he was named sole CEO.
"Over the past four years, John has been instrumental in our company's ability to anticipate market shifts and evolve with our customers as he architected nuanced merchandising, planning, marketing, and value-driven pricing strategies. There is no doubt he is the right successor at the right time, and I'm excited to see Tailored Brands continue to thrive under his leadership.'

'I'm honored to lead this talented organization to deliver on our company's purpose and value proposition. I look forward to Peter's continued mentorship as he takes on his new role and want to thank the board, Peter and the entire leadership team for their support and confidence," said Tighe.
"I'm grateful to work alongside such a talented and passionate leadership team as well as the more than 14,000 team members who wake up every day to put our customers at the center of every decision. We wouldn't be where we are today without their tireless dedication, and I look forward to unlocking the potential of all our banners as a team."

Dubai plants AI transparency flag

Dubai has launched the world's first Human-Machine Collaboration Icons - a system that makes visible the invisible, showing exactly how humans and intelligent machines work together in research and content creation. The initiative comes under the direction of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the emirate 'Distinguishing between human creativity and artificial intelligence has become a real challenge in light of today's rapid technological advances,' Sheikh Hamdan said as he approved the system. 'That's why we launched this global classification system. We invite researchers, writers, publishers, designers, and content creators around the world to adopt it, and to use it responsibly, in ways that benefit people'. For Dubai, this isn't just a policy tweak. It feels like a vision shared with the world. A statement that creativity, transparency and trust still matter in a future being reshaped by AI. Developed by the Dubai Future Foundation, the system comes alive through five primary icons - from 'All Human,' to 'Human led,' to 'Machine assisted,' to 'Machine led,' and finally 'All Machine'. Nine more functional icons dig deeper, revealing whether AI stepped in during ideation, data collection, design, writing or translation. Together they act like a set of honest signposts for readers, viewers and decision‑makers trying to understand: how much of this came from a human, and how much from a machine? It's a deceptively simple idea that feels urgently relevant. In an age of viral deepfakes and generative models, these small symbols could make a huge difference in trust. A city with a habit of leaping ahead If this feels ambitious, it's because Dubai thrives on ambition. The emirate has spent years reinventing itself as more than a gleaming skyline or an aviation hub. Now, it wants to be the world's next technological crossroads. The UAE's AI market, worth €29.7 billion in 2023 is on track to skyrocket to €234 million by 2030. Government‑backed funds are pouring billions into data centres, chip fabrication and sovereign computing. Partnerships with Microsoft, Nvidia, OpenAI and others are laying down fibre and silicon on a scale few other nations can match. And it's not growth for growth's sake. 'AI is a fundamental shift in how businesses, governments and individuals relate to data, decisions and automation', said Tarek Kabrit, CEO of Dubai‑based tech firm Seez. 'The real value lies in how AI integrates seamlessly to empower people and create new human‑centric experiences'. Built on people, not just machines That human‑centric focus runs through Dubai's AI vision. Over a million people are being trained in AI skills. Universities like the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence are drawing talent from across the globe. And the country's AI Ethics Charter and data protection laws are setting guardrails as fast as innovation pushes ahead. Sheikh Hamdan's call for global adoption of the new icon system is part of that ethos: a future where AI isn't a black box, but a partner you can see, measure and trust. If this feels familiar, it's because Dubai has done it before. From launching Emirates airline with two leased planes and a dream, to sending the Hope Probe to Mars, the city has turned audacious ideas into benchmarks the rest of the world watches. Now it's doing the same with AI and with a dose of emotion behind the engineering. The Human-Machine Collaboration Icons are more than just a framework. They're a reminder that in the race to build the future, it's not enough to be fast. You have to be open. You have to be trusted. And you have to bring people along with you. In Dubai's own words: This is not just about machines creating. It's about humans and machines creating together, and owning that story, proudly, in the open.

UniCredit delivers record earnings, raises 2025 outlook

UniCredit S.p.A. has kicked off the European banking earnings season with a stellar performance, surpassing analyst expectations and raising its full-year guidance, buoyed by robust core revenues and pristine asset quality. The Milan-based lender posted a record net profit of €3.3 billion in the second quarter of 2025, lifting its first-half earnings to €6.1 billion. Earnings per share surged to €2.16, up 34% year-on-year and well ahead of the €1.55 forecast. Core revenue rose 1.3% annually to €5.9 billion in the quarter. According to the bank, these results are transforming what was meant to be a "transitional year into the best year ever." 'UniCredit has achieved outstanding financial results, with a record-breaking Q2 contributing to the best H1 in the bank's history,' said Chief Executive Officer Andrea Orcel. 'We are protected for the future as our low cost of risk, strong asset quality and unmatched overlays safeguard against potential macroeconomic downturns,' he added. Upgraded outlook and investor payouts In a further sign of confidence, UniCredit raised its full-year 2025 net profit guidance to approximately €10.5 billion, up from a prior target of more than €9.3 billion. The bank also lifted its net revenue outlook to above €23.5 billion and upgraded its return on tangible equity (ROTE) forecast to around 20%, from previously over 17%. Longer-term projections were also improved, with 2027 earnings now expected to reach at least €11 billion, up from circa €10 billion. The bank raised its distribution guidance to equal to or above €9.5 billion for 2025, including a cash dividend of at least €4.75 billion. An interim cash dividend of about €2.1 billion is envisaged, representing a 46% increase year-on-year, with the ex-dividend date set for 24 November. In addition, a €3.6 billion share buy-back programme is slated to commence following the second-quarter results. Goldman Sachs analyst Chris Hallam praised UniCredit's 'beat and raise' performance, highlighting the bank's continued earnings momentum and shareholder-friendly capital distribution. Balance sheet resilience and strategic clarity UniCredit's gross non-performing exposure (NPE) ratio remained stable at 2.6%, while the cost of risk stayed at a low nine basis points in the first half—underscoring the group's asset quality and prudent provisioning. Separately, UniCredit withdrew its offer for Banco BPM, citing unresolved conditions linked to Italy's golden power regulations. Orcel noted that the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the authorisation process did not benefit shareholders or the bank, prompting the decision to pull the deal. While progress had been made with the Italian Administrative Tribunal (TAR), the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition and the Italian government, the bank concluded that the timeline for resolving the regulatory hurdle exceeded the offer window. Market reaction and sector momentum Investors responded positively to the results and upgraded guidance. UniCredit shares rallied 2.6% in early Wednesday trading to €59.60, bringing year-to-date gains to 54%. The stock surged 56% in 2024 and 85% in 2023, making it one of Europe's best-performing financials. The Euro STOXX Banks index advanced 1.4%, outperforming the broader Euro STOXX 600, which rose 0.9%. Peers including Deutsche Bank, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya and Nordea Bank each gained 1.5%, while BNP Paribas rose 1.1% ahead of its second-quarter earnings release on Thursday.

The Perfume Shop has another strong year despite price-sensitive consumers

The Perfume Shop's accounts for 2024 are in and they show the UK-based fragrance retailer's revenue rising 5.9%. The company, which also sells in Ireland, operated from one extra store overall last year taking its total to 510, but its revenue rise from 302.4 million to £320.4 million wasn't purely down to trading from new space. The retailer's comparable sales increased by 6.1% with the business saying it saw strong growth both in its physical spaces and online. This was helped by its loyalty programme that continues to grow and saw an increase in member gross sales participation and the total number of members. Meanwhile, operating profits increased to £24.8 million from £21.4 million with profit after tax at £17.2 million, up from £15.4 million in 2023. That was all despite what The Perfume Shop said was another tough year for the retail sector, including the legacy of higher prices even though the monthly rate of inflation eased considerably. Consumer disposable income was squeezed and it said customers were much more price-sensitive even though the beauty market as a whole was strong. It continued to grow its market share through its strategy as a multi-channel retailer and investment here paid off last year. That investment remains key as the business spends money of opening new stores and refurbishing existing locations. In 2024, it refitted 31 stores and opened three in new locations, as well as relocating five to stronger trading positions and closing two as their leases ended and the decision was taken that they didn't fit in with the strategic direction of the firm. Although the accounts didn't contain any details about specific selling seasons or about 2025, we assume that the current year has continued to be strong. During this year it has reported buoyant sales for key events such as Valentine 's Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day. And store openings/revamps have continued at pace.
