OWINGS MILLS, MD, Feb. 06, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MotorWeek today announced its 2025 Drivers' Choice Awards, highlighted by its 2025 Best of the Year winner – the all-electric Chevrolet Equinox EV.
The full slate of Drivers' Choice Awards presented by MotorWeek, now in its 44th season as TV and digital media's original automotive magazine series, reflects the new age of EVs while maintaining the mantle of practicality with an eye toward the future. The Drivers' Choice Awards digital ceremony can be viewed at MotorWeek.org and MotorWeek's YouTube channel.
The Equinox EV builds on the solid reputation of the internal combustion engine Equinox, which has been among North America's most popular compact SUVs for two decades. While sharing a name and purpose, the Equinox EV is an all-new 21st-century standout with its combination of extended driving range, family practicality, and affordable price. It also promises to open up the world of all-electric motoring to a wider audience like no battery-electric before it. That is why MotorWeek's editorial staff awarded the Chevrolet Equinox EV its top vehicle honor.
John Davis, MotorWeek creator and host said, 'While this is not the first time an EV has won Best of the Year honors, the Equinox EV, with over 300 miles of standard range for all models, and just under $35,000 price tag before incentives, is poised to finally make an EV purchase something most families and fleet buyers, large and small, can not only afford but, also, cannot afford to ignore.
'Rarely is a brand able to transform a highly familiar nameplate into a new-era standard bearer, but that is just what Chevrolet has done with the all-new Equinox EV,' noted Davis. 'This Equinox EV is also a real head turner, with some of the best-looking styling to come out of the Bow Tie Brigade in decades.'
Chevrolet has put everything it has learned in nine decades of building SUVs into the ground-breaking Equinox EV. MotorWeek's staff notes the vehicle's airy and modern interior that has room for five adults along with an impressive suite of technology.
'While the gas-powered Equinox has been a standard for small utilities for some 20 years, the Equinox EV picks up the torch for an all-electric driving future,' explained Davis. 'Along with its over-300-mile range, using a Level 3 DC-Fast Charger, the new Equinox EV can add back as much as 70 miles of range in only 10 minutes. So, the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV is so much more than just a new generation of a great selling nameplate, it's a class revolution that delivers better than ever.'
'We are honored to see our best-selling EV receive this recognition,' said Scott Bell, global vice president, Chevrolet. 'It's a vehicle we are extremely proud of – it looks and drives great, is affordable and it just happens to be an EV. There's no surprise it's converting EV skeptics and bringing new folks to the Chevrolet family.'
MotorWeek's production team evaluates more than 150 cars, trucks, and sports utility vehicles every year. Drivers' Choice Award winners, in 12 consumer-driven categories, were chosen based on driving performance, technology, practicality, fuel efficiency, and value for the dollar.
'Our category winners this year cover a wider array of vehicles than ever, not only in vehicle type but in capability and price. Plus, as the award's name says, we love driving all of them' said Davis. 'Prices start (on this award list) from around $29,000. Even with more EVs being introduced into the market, those who prefer traditional internal-combustion-powered cars will find popular brands have not forgotten them and have many updated models on the way. For those uncertain about a full-on transition to EV, many vehicles on our list come with either standard or optional hybrid powertrains. With inventories fully stocked, dropping interest rates, and rising dealer and manufacturer financial incentives, 2025 is shaping up to be a new car buyer's market dream.'
The 2025 Drivers' Choice Award winners also appear on a special episode of MotorWeek (#4423) airing on public television stations beginning February 8. The episode can also be seen on the series' cable partner, the MAVTV Motorsports Network, starting February 16.
MotorWeek and the 2025 Drivers' Choice Awards are nationally sponsored by Auto Value and Bumper-to-Bumper, and TireRack.com.

Sam Mayer Captures First Xfinity Win for Haas Factory at Iowa, Snaps Chevy's 13-Race Win Streak

Sam Mayer secured his spot in the playoffs with a win at Iowa Speedway, rebounding after missing his pit box following the first stage on Saturday evening. With this win, Mayer brings the first trophy back to the new Haas Factory Team and ends Chevrolet's 13-race win streak. This was the first time that a Toyota won since Chandler Smith won the 2024 season finale at Phoenix. Mayer led for the first time on the final restart, taking the spot away from Jesse Love. Mayer was cruising to his victory over Love and the rest of the field when the yellow flag waved on the final lap with Garrett Smithley going around, ending the race under caution. Love, who spent most of the day in the top ten, struggled throughout the race with his racing setup. Connor Zilisch got out to an early lead in hopes of winning his fourth race in a row and was leading at the end of the first stage before a pit row issue buried him in the midpack. Zilisch had to go down pit row twice during the first stage break after the No. 88 pit crew failed to secure a tire on the first stop. Ross Chastain took the lead from Jesse Love in the second stage to lead 120 laps and ultimately finished third. JR Motorsports teammates Chastain, Zilisch, and Justin Allgaier were involved in a crash after a restart on lap 213, with the three getting tangled in turn one on lap 214, when a mistake by Zilisch sent Chastain into Allgaier. Zilisch appologized to his teammates after the race, and Chastain was happy to not be the aggressor in a teammate battle. "[He was] apologizing for hitting me into the No. 7," Chastain told The CW Sports." It was nice to not be the aggressor teammate." In the closing laps, Zilisch passed Harrison Burton for fourth as Burton settled for his second top five of the season. Prayers Pouring In For Kyle Busch After 'Scary' Practice Crash

Prayers Pouring In For Kyle Busch After 'Scary' Practice Crash originally appeared on The Spun. The bad luck just keeps pouring on for NASCAR star Kyle Busch as a crash in practice left his car a mess and had fans scrambling to make sure he was okay. During practice in Iowa today, Busch was doing a practice lap and things seemed to be going fine until his car swerved coming off a turn. Losing control, Busch's Chevrolet smashed nearly head-on with a wall before bouncing off. Flames could be seen emerging from the inside of the car as it spun into a stop. Concern quickly mounted for Busch as not everyone could see whether he was able to get out of the car safely. "Yeah almost head on, that was insane what a crash. Nice to know they have safer barriers unlike Indy last week. Glad he's ok," one user replied. "I'm so glad he's ok," wrote another. "That hit was scary, what broke?" a third wondered. Busch appeared to be fine but his car was an absolute mess once it made it back into the garage: Busch was released from medical treatment and spoke to reporters afterwards. He remarked that his No. 8 car had been struggling with "rear chatter" leading up to the crash. He lamented going into the fateful turn with "too much trust" and was punished with right rear chattering and overcorrecting, leading to the impact with the wall. More bad luck for Busch The story of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series and really the past two seasons for Busch have been one bit of bad luck after another. He has now gone two calendar years without winning a race and has not led a single lap over the last 10 races - the longest such streak of his storied racing career. Busch is still in the hunt for a spot in the NASCAR Cup playoffs. But he's on a razor-thin edge and would be near the back of the pack in the points-only qualification. Last year he missed the playoffs entirely, so he'll need a dazzling finish if he wants to get in at all. In the meantime, we're just glad that he's Pouring In For Kyle Busch After 'Scary' Practice Crash first appeared on The Spun on Aug 2, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 2, 2025, where it first appeared.
