Nets' Egor Demin believes he's a good fit for Brooklyn's style of play

USA Today2 days ago
NEW YORK -- The Brooklyn Nets surprised many around the NBA when they chose BYU guard Egor Demin with the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft last week. While many NBA Draft experts had expected Demin to be picked later in the Draft, Brooklyn did not risk Demin being off the board and it seems that the team and Demin understand why the partnership happened this way.
"Well, I think I'm just a good, good fit. This team is a good fit for me, and I'm a good fit for this team," Demin said during the Nets' press conference with all of the rookies that the team took in the Draft. Demin was in attendance along with: general manager Sean Marks, head coach Jordi Fernandez, No. 19 pick Nolan Traore, No. 22 pick Drake Powell, No. 26 pick Ben Saraf, and No. 27 pick Danny Wolf.
"Obviously because it's a lot of athleticism, young guys, and I believe we could be a really high pace and high volume team," Demin continued. "Just being able to run coast to coast. And for me, how efficient can I find those defensive rebounds and just find the outlet as fast as I can. Find somebody in front of me who can finish at the rim or find the corners, right, since we're going to learn a lot of spacing, it's going to be a lot of screens and all that."
Demin, 19, is coming off a 2024-25 freshman season at BYU in which he averaged 10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 41.2% from the field and 27.3% from three-point land. Despite the fact that Brooklyn's selection of Demin was surprising, it's hard to ignore why the Nets were interested in the Russian who stands at 6-foot-8 and 199 pounds and is considered the best passer in the Draft.
As Demin discusses his fit for a Nets team led by Fernandez and Marks, it will be interesting to see how much he can improve on his flaws while developing at the same time as four other rookies on the roster. Demin, who struggles with turnovers and outside shooting, will have the Las Vegas Summer League later in July to show what he can do at the NBA level before the coaching staff tries to improve his overall game.

Lakers Insider Reveals Most Realistic Trade Target

Lakers Insider Reveals Most Realistic Trade Target originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Lakers are still trying to add more firepower to their roster. They signed Jake LaRavia and Deandre Ayton, but that might not be enough to compete at the highest level and bounce back after a first-round exit in J.J. Redick's first year in charge. Advertisement However, reports also show that they want to maintain some salary cap flexibility for next season, which is why they might not spend big bucks in free agency. Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic (77) and Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (23)Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images With that in mind, team insider Jovan Buha claimed that, given their recent interest and the current picture, Andrew Wiggins might be the most realistic trade target for Rob Pelinka: 'I think Wiggins is the best wing available, realistically with/ the Lakers' assets. I wouldn't want to give up [Dalton] Knecht and a first for Wiggins—but I'd give up either one. If you could do Rui [Hachimura], Maxi [Kleber], and Knecht or Rui, Maxi & a first for Wiggins, I'd do either one of those trades,' Buha said. Advertisement This isn't the first time that Buha has reported the Lakers' interest in acquiring the Miami Heat guard/forward. Nevertheless, he also pointed out that they demanded Rui Hachimura, Dalton Knecht, and a first-round selection for the former NBA champion, and that's a non-starter for the Lakers. Wiggins would give the Lakers another two-way wing with playoff experience, but losing one of the team's best shooters in Knecht would be a steep price to pay. But if the Heat ultimately lower their asking price for Wiggins, he could be a solid pickup for the Purple & Gold. Nets lose guard D'Angelo Russell to Mavericks in free agency deal

Free agency has begun in the NBA and the Brooklyn Nets saw their first loss of the period. After agreeing to deals to bring back Ziaire Williams and Day'Ron Sharpe, the Nets saw D'Angelo Russell walk out the door in free agency. Russell has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Dallas Mavericks for two year and $13 million. The Nets acquired Russell from the Los Angeles Lakers during the season for his second tour of duty in Brooklyn. He averaged 12.9 points, 5.6 assists, and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 36.7% from the floor and 29.7% from deep in 29 games with 26 starts after the trade. Russell will now look to handle the point guard duties for the Mavericks while Kyrie Irving continues to recover from a torn ACL in his left knee. He will join a talented Dallas team led by Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, PJ Washington, and No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg.
