Shrivastava shared the update during a meeting with Rajya Sabha MP from Silchar, Kanad Purkayastha, at the NFR headquarters in Maligaon. The 150-km proposed line is being seen as a potential game-changer, especially in light of the recurring landslides on the Lumding–Badarpur hill section, which remains the sole rail link for the Barak Valley, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur.
The alternative routes are currently under active consideration by the Railway Board.
According to NFR sources, survey work on the project is progressing steadily, with a target to complete it by Dec this year.
During the high-level meeting, Purkayastha also tabled a series of demands aimed at improving rail infrastructure in the region. He urged NFR to upgrade and maintain the vulnerable Silchar–Lumding section and proposed that the Silchar–Rangiya Express be operated on Saturday and Sunday nights to enhance weekly connectivity.
He also sought daily operations for the Silchar–Mahisashan passenger train, which currently runs on a limited schedule.
Another key demand was the replacement of ageing ICF coaches with modern LHB coaches on all major trains running through the Barak Valley. The NFR GM welcomed the proposals and assured the MP that necessary steps will be taken to address these issues.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, MP Kanad Purkayastha termed the discussions "constructive and forward-looking" and thanked GM Shrivastava for his "positive and responsive" approach.
The meeting was also attended by Assam minister Krishnendu Paul, former MLA Shiladitya Dev, and senior BJP leader Subrata Bhattacharjee.

Must stop calling Tibet border India-China boundary: BJP MP
NEW DELHI: A day after Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu said India does not share any boundary with China, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar doubled down on the issue on Friday saying India should stop referring to India-Tibet border as India-China border, reports Pradeep Thakur. "We don't have any borders with China. They've occupied Tibet and it's today an occupied territory," Kumar said, referring to the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1949-50. Unmindful of backlash from Beijing, the Rajya Sabha MP called for Parliament to have more debates on Chinese occupation of Tibet and an ongoing cultural genocide in the occupied plateau, similar to what Nazi Germany did. Kumar is the ex-convener of the All Party Indian Parliamentary Forum for Tibet (APIPFT) and a vocal voice among Tibet support groups. He is also presently engaged in a signature drive of Parliamentarians canvassing for Dalai Lama to be conferred the Bharat Ratna.

Vijayawada: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) issued fresh notices to former Rajya Sabha MP and YSRCP leader V Vijayasai Reddy , asking him to appear for questioning in connection with the liquor scam case. The notice, served under Section 179 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), directs him to report to the SIT office on Saturday at 10 am. He also informed the media that the initial meetings on the liquor policy took place at his residences in Hyderabad, and later in Andhra Pradesh. He reportedly gave the same accounts to SIT officials during questioning. The SIT has so far arrested nine individuals in connection with the case. Investigators summoned Vijayasai Reddy again to gather further information.
