Hoërskool Marais Viljoen learner among top gymnastics performers in Ekurhuleni
Chloe Garner-Savory, a Grade Eight learner at the Alberton-based school, was awarded Ekurhuleni District Colours for gymnastics.
This marks the third consecutive year that Garner-Savory has received this honour, recognising her continued excellence in the sport.
'We are incredibly proud of Chloe Garner-Savory for her outstanding achievements in gymnastics. Your dedication, hard work and passion inspire us every day. Well done, Chloe. We cannot wait to see what you do next,' said the school in a statement.
Garner-Savory trains at Legacy Gymnastics Club, located at the JBR Centre on the corner of Louis Trichardt Road and Fifth Avenue in Alberton.
She recently represented her district at the Gauteng Gymnastics Festival (Women's Artistic Gymnastics), where she earned a silver medal after four days of competition in the Level 1 and 3 categories.
Legacy Gymnastics Club had an impressive overall showing at the festival, with a total medal haul of 25 gold, 31 silver and 15 bronze medals.

The Buccaneers have not lifted the league title since the 2011/12 season, but after pushing closer to the top during the previous campaign than they have in recent years – even though they ultimately finished 13 points behind champions Sundowns – there's a renewed sense of optimism in Orlando. Motale, a former Bucs defender who played a key role in the club's historic 1995 CAF Champions League-winning side, believes that Pirates have what it takes to not only compete with Sundowns but to finally surpass them. 'The club knows where they went wrong last season,' Motale told Independent Newspapers. 'Before the coach left, he even admitted that they were too confident in certain matches and dropped points against so-called smaller teams – that's where they lost the title. 'The fact that they've already acknowledged what cost them shows a team that's learning and growing. That gives me the belief that this season they won't just be challengers – they will go all the way and win the league.' The Sea Robbers recently concluded a pre-season tour in Spain, which gave new coach Ouaddou a valuable opportunity to assess his squad in competitive conditions. The trip also allowed him to experiment with combinations and get a clearer picture of the team's depth heading into what could be a demanding campaign. Motale praised the value of the tour, saying it gave many players a chance to prove themselves while also helping the coaching staff make informed decisions ahead of their MTN8 title defence. 'I saw the last two matches of the tour,' Motale continued. 'You can't judge too much from only a few games, but it was important for every player to get game time. 'It was also an opportunity for the coach to see who fits where, to try out combinations. 'I don't think he'll struggle with a large squad. In fact, I suspect that even in those four matches, he has already figured out a few preferred combinations and maybe even his best starting eleven. 'He played at the highest level, and when someone has that kind of experience, it doesn't take long to spot your top players. He'll know who to go with.' The Buccaneers will kick off the defence of their MTN8 title against Polokwane City on August 2 at the Orlando Stadium, with the league season set to begin soon after.

Junior Springbok star Haashim Pead named in Lions Currie Cup squad
Junior Springbok world champion Haashim Pead will make his senior debut for the Lions when he runs out for the Johannesburg-based side in this season's Currie Cup. Pead was named the Player of the Tournament following the Junior Boks' victory over New Zealand in the U20 World Championship final last Saturday. The young talent boasted incredible numbers, even surpassing France megastar Antoine Dupont's record for running metres by a scrumhalf at the tournament, racking up 232 metres from 15 carries during the pool stages. Pead also scored six tries and assisted four. He was one of three Junior Springboks – the others being Cheswill Jooste and Batho Hlekani – invited to train with the Springboks at an upcoming training camp. On Wednesday, Pead was also named in the Lions' Currie Cup squad, alongside Junior Bok team-mates Gilermo Mentoe, Thando Biyela and Morne Venter. Experienced hooker Jaco Visage will lead the Mziwakhe Nkosi-coached side once again. Bloemfontein Celtic identity crisis: revival or rivalry?

Will the real Bloemfontein Celtic please stand up? The curious state of affairs in trying to revive the club would be funny if it wasn't this confusing to all football lovers in the Free State province. ALSO READ: Sundowns unveil home and away kits for 2025/26 season The PSL status formerly held by United has been acquired by a new entity, Siwelele FC, backed by a Bloemfontein-based consortium led by Calvin Le John, son of Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie. Celtic in Tshwane The club is set to play its 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign out of Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane, and despite the change in location, it is already positioning itself as the spiritual successor to the original Celtic. Mckenzie has publicly shared his family's emotional connection to the club, with the outspoken sports minister once revealing, 'The only time my father hugged me was when Celtic scored a goal.' While the minister insists he will not interfere in club matters while in office, his influence looms large over the project. However, the situation is far from clear-cut. Edward Modise, a Free State businessman, has legally acquired the naming rights to Bloemfontein Celtic from former owner Max Tshabalala. In an interview with Radio 2000's Thabiso Mosia, Modise outlined plans to purchase a Motsepe Foundation Championship status and restore the Celtic brand through promotion, rather than top-flight acquisition. This has left some supporters in a state of confusion. Should they rally behind Siwelele FC, who have a PSL status but no official claim to the Celtic name, or wait for Modise's version, rooted in Free State and built from the ground up? Yet, the legitimacy of this effort remains in question given that the actual naming rights reside with Modise. Tug-of-war It's a tug-of-war for heritage, identity and fan loyalty. It threatens to further fracture a supporter base already left heartbroken by the club's earlier sale. Instead of a long-awaited return, Celtic fans are now watching two rival visions pulling in different directions. Siwelele FC will open their premiership campaign against Golden Arrows while the true revival of Bloemfontein Celtic remains in limbo. The question remains, where does this leave the loyal Phunya Sele Sele faithful? Who do they back, Le John's Siwelele FC, or Modise's bid to bring back the real Celtic? What happens if Modise follows through and secures a status in the NFD? The naming rights legally belong to him, and a potential clash seems inevitable. At this stage, it's difficult to speak of a true revival when two camps claim the same legacy but are pulling in opposite directions.
