Latest on Lille's pursuit of Rangers star Hamza Igamane as talks CONTINUE – while Gers LOSE in closed doors friendly

LILLE are preparing to up the ante in their pursuit of Hamza Igamane.
Reports on Friday claimed their interest had 'cooled' after Rangers set the asking price at £15million.

But it's understood discussions are on-going with the player keen on a move to Ligue 1.
Gers swooped for the Moroccan international in a deal worth just £1.7m last summer.
Igamane hit 16 goals for the Ibrox side last season - including a famous winner against Celtic at Parkhead.
His outstanding display against Nice in the Europa League caught the eye of clubs across Europe, with Lille, Marseille and Everton all put on red alert.

But with Jonathan David set to leave the Mastiffs this summer, Lille have moved first.
It's claimed Igamane has already agreed terms with the French club, but as yet no official bid has been made.
That could all change in the next 48 hours with Lille determined to secure the services of the Ibrox star.
Cyriel Dessers is likely to follow Igamane out the door with the Nigerian striker on the brink of a move to AEK Athens.

Feyenoord have also been linked with last season's top scorer - but reports in Greece claimed last night that AEK are preparing their final push to land the front man.
Gers could generate £20m from both sales, with boss Russell Martin set to move for top target Dor Turgeman.

The Ibrox club are willing to meet Maccabi Tel Aviv's asking price of 5million euros with the striker keen on a move to Glasgow.
But Martin has missed out on Peterborough winger Kwame Poku.

The 23-year-old, who scored 12 goals in 27 games, has opted instead for QPR.
It's an area Martin desperately wants to strengthen following the departure of on-loan Vaclav Cerny.
Current wingers Nedim Bajrami and Ross McCausland are two players who could find themselves surplus to requirements.
Defender Conor Coady remains a target, with Martin continuing to track Croat forward Matija Frigan too.

Meanwhile, Martin's men suffered a defeat to The New Saints in a closed door friendly.
The Welsh side ran out 1-0 winners in Glasgow against a Gers side that included Liam Kelly, James Tavernier and Robin Propper.

Conor Coady says Rangers move would be ‘unbelievable' as Ibrox icon hails defender as ‘perfect fit'

He is already being tipped as a future Gers captain 'PRICELESS' Conor Coady says Rangers move would be 'unbelievable' as Ibrox icon hails defender as 'perfect fit' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CONOR COADY reckons it would be 'unbelievable' to sign for Rangers - and Ibrox icon Jermain Defoe is trying to help make it happen. And the former Spurs striker – who was part of Steven Gerrard's title-winning side in 2021 – revealed Coady is keen to move north if a deal can be struck. Defoe told the Daily Record: 'I spoke to Conor and we had a good conversation about Rangers. 'He knows how big the club is and I think he's the perfect fit for Rangers. 'I've obviously spoken to him and I just hope the deal gets done now. 'I told him how big Rangers are. I said: 'Trust me, Rangers are bigger than most Premier League clubs'. 'I told Conor that I wish I'd gone there five years before I did. 'Conor is keen on the move, 100 percent. 'Obviously, they have to sort out a few things with Leicester and I'm not sure what is going on with that. 'But honestly, his eyes lit up. Frank Lampard corrects 'all over the place' Conor Coady live on TV during Euro 2024 coverage 'He said to me: 'J, if I get the chance to play for a club like that, it would be unbelievable'. 'And the great thing is, he's still only 32. It's not like he's 35. 'He can go there, sign a four-year contract and really make a difference to Rangers. 'He can lead them and drive that changing room. 'I don't want any other club to get him. Rangers can't miss out on signings like this. 'If we're looking to go in the right direction as a football club, take this opportunity. 'Because it's a guy who I know would love to be at Rangers. 'When you get players into the building who appreciate being there - even though he's been at top clubs and with England - it's priceless.' Defoe says he can see Coady as a future Rangers leader – and even told current skipper James Tavernier as much. 4 He added: 'Conor is a natural captain. 'But I even messaged Tav on Saturday night and told him - make sure the club gets this deal for Conor done. 'Because these are the types of people we need inside the club, especially in that position. 'And hopefully they can add a few more, like a midfielder and centre-forward, so they have that spine of the team. 'Conor can lead from the back and he'll be a massive signing for Rangers. 'He's a natural leader and you don't get many of them. Some players develop that over their career. 'But with someone like Conor, I think he's been like that from a young kid, it's natural. 'He was speaking to me about standards and driving the right things in the changing room. 'That's what Rangers is all about, standards. 'It's about how you live, what you do on and off the pitch, because you're representing a huge football club and you have to give the fans what they deserve.' Scottish hope Jacob Fearnley has set his sights on reaching the top of the tennis world rankings ahead of his first round clash at Wimbledon on Monday. The 23-year-old enters the Championships as the British men's number two after an impressive breakthrough season which has seen the Edinburgh man make the third round at both the French and Australian Open. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Fearnley, who also made it through to his first ATP Tour quarter-final at Queen's Club earlier this month, is now ranked 51st in the world - an enormous rise from his 1,893rd position back in October 2023. He reached the second round on his Wimbledon debut last year where he faced Novak Djokovic on Centre Court, taking the seven-time champion to four sets in a 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 defeat. Fearnley starts his 2025 bid on Court One on Monday against the exciting 18-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca, who is making his debut at the All England Club. "There's no reason why. But I'm also not going to say I can, because I know a lot of things have to click. I have to stay healthy and, probably, get a little bit lucky." "Not because he doesn't deserve it, it's just cool to see a friend you grew up with achieving such great things in the sport. I've tried to learn from him, he's where I aspire to be." Jermain Defoe reveals Conor Coady Rangers transfer stance

The former Ibrox striker, who worked alongside Coady during TV coverage of England's under-21 Euro Championship final win, is hopeful of a long-term deal for the Leicester City centre-back. Defoe told the Daily Record: "I spoke to Conor and we had a good conversation about Rangers. "He knows how big the club is and I think he's the perfect fit for Rangers. Coady, under contract at Leicester's King Power Stadium until 2026, would require a transfer fee. Rangers previously tried to sign him in 2024 but failed to reach an agreement. Defoe, who moved to Rangers in 2020, continued: "I told Conor that I wish I'd gone there five years before I did. "Conor is keen on the move, 100 percent. "Obviously, they have to sort out a few things with Leicester and I'm not sure what is going on with that. "But honestly, his eyes lit up.
