'This £12 inflating mascara from a beloved brand gave me a false lash effect in one coat'
For that exact reason, I, like so many others, have been committed to Maybelline's Lash Sensational Sky High for that limitless volume without feeling weighed down. However, I think I may have just found one that has stolen its crown.
The beloved high street brand recently dropped its Colossal Bubble Mascara that promises "nine times the volume in just one coat". New to buy for £11.99 at Superdrug, Amazon and Boots, I was instantly sold by its claims and budget price-tag.
Despite being one of the latest additions to the high street, this "inflating" mascara has already earned glowing reviews, with beauty fans on the Maybelline website who say it gives "great length and volume", without being heavy or going clumpy.
As someone who is a tad obsessed with new beauty finds, I decided to get my hands on Maybelline's latest invention to see if it was another winner for the brand.
A unique formula and comb brush for inflated lashes
I'll be honest, the first thing that attracted me to this mascara was its cute yellow packaging with adorable bubble writing that instantly transported me right back to the early '00s.
Trendy packaging aside, the product description says that it combines "breakthrough" bubble technology and an inflator comb brush that volumizes and separates the lashes at the same time, so it shouldn't be too heavy or cause clumps.
One of the interesting things I read was that the formula has been infused with collagen, a favourite in skincare, to give it that buildable and sleek volume, effectively creating a "bubble lash" effect in ever stroke.
I was also surprised at the shape of the applicator, as many mascara wands can be flexible and bendy. Instead, this one felt quite sturdy and less cheap, with the spiral-shape design boasting deep-cut bristles that "inflates 100 percent of the lashes from root to tip."
A false lash effect in just one coat
After quickly giving my lashes just one coat, I instantly had quite a few thoughts on the application.
First, my lashes immediately had that enviable curl that we all try to achieve with both mascara and a pair of curlers. Not only did offer an instant lift and definition, but it looked natural and didn't feel too heavy, which can often be the case with some others out there.
Not only did it give that coveted 'false lash effect' to my otherwise thin lashes, I also found that the rigidness of the inflator comb really helped to keep a steady application, which was a surprise as I didn't think I would like it.
Beauty deal of the week
Looking for last minute gift inspiration for dad ahead of Sunday, June 15.
Then don't fret, as we have you covered, as no-one can go wrong with a new bottle of cologne, and we have spotted Versace's The Dreamer for him Eau de Toilette for 67 percent less at Superdrug.
Hailed for being "underrated" and "truly unique", a large 100ml bottle of this fragrance has been dropped from £74 to £24, allowing you to make a huge saving of £50 and get in a thoughtful gift.
Described as "warm" and "fresh", Versace's Dreamer is an aromatic fragrance that, while belonging to the cologne family, is said to boast a variety of notes that make it suitable for both men and women.
The scent opens on vibrant notes of juniper, tarragon, and artemisia, before blending into heart notes of iris, lily and flax flowers to add a touch of softness. It then ends on a comforting base of tobacco blossom and amber, offering a smoky, luxurious finish.
The transparent, clear fragrance itself is housed in an opulent glass bottle that has been embossed with the iconic medusa logo, representing the luxury aesthetic of the iconic fashion house.
Versace's Dreamer EDT has managed to earn glowing reviews and a 4.6 rating from shoppers, with one saying: "Truly unique and dreamy fragrance. It's a great fragrance but it's underrated. Guys you have to try this one, it's great for all year round."
And someone else wrote: "Not to be overlooked. This is a lesser known Versace men's fragrance but oh my it is gorgeous ! Hubby loved it and amazing value for money."
Versace's The Dreamer For Him Eau de Toilette (100ml) can be bought for 67 percent less at Superdrug now.
However, I found that it really helped to properly lift right from the roots of the lashes without any accidental smudging, while each of my lashes managed to look effortlessly separated, instead of clumping together and feeling weighed down.
It is worth noting that, while I was a fan of the applicator brush, not everyone was. In fact, a few reviews on the brand's website that the fullness of the design means they have wipe excess off the brush, or it causes clumping or smudging for them.
Exagger-Eyes Mascara or Maxfactor's £15 False Lash Effect Supreme Recharge Mascara might be worth checking out as alternatives.
Overall verdict
With its cute packaging and ability to lift my lashes in just one coat without heaviness or clumping, I was instantly sold on Maybelline's Colossal Bubble Mascara.
As for me, I do prefer a natural look with my lashes, so one or two coats was enough for me, although the collagen-infused formula can offer a much more 'plumped' and 'dramatic' effect for those who'd maybe prefer that.
Another positive is that it stayed on all day without beginning to break down or smudge. Consider staying power is another must for me, this was just another positive to tick off the box.
As a self-obsessed Lash Sensational Sky High fan, dare I say that Maybelline has just launched a new contender for its crown?

The free, ad-supported streaming service is directing viewers to continue watching Freevee content on Prime Video. The notice stated: 'Prime Video is the new exclusive home for Freevee TV shows, movies and Live TV. 'The Freevee app will be accessible until August 2025. The Move Was Expected The move doesn't come as a surprise, as Amazon confirmed back in November 2024 that it was sunsetting the service and integrating its content into Prime Video. Freevee content was already available through both apps and there had been murmurs earlier this year that the name could be axed after Prime introduced ads. Amazon said in a statement at the time that it had 'Decided to phase out Freevee branding. "There will be no change to the content available for Prime members, and a vast offering of free streaming content will still be accessible for non-Prime members. "Including select Originals from Amazon MGM Studios, a variety of licensed movies and series, and a broad library of FAST Channels — all available on Prime Video.' It is the company's free alternative to Prime Video, with classic and original shows including Judy Justice and the reboot of Aussie soap Neighbours. Popular original series also include Emmy-nominated reality comedy show Jury Duty, and crime show Bosch: Legacy. These shows are accessible on Prime Video under the 'Watch for Free' section. The service started out life under the IMDb brand five years ago, before becoming Freevee in April 2022. Although the app and brand is disappearing, the shows and movies are not. Instead, they will live within Prime Video with a free label.

'Stylish' earplugs that work 'perfectly' at concerts are a must-have for TRNSMT
'These earplugs work perfectly for concerts and parties. They reduce the volume just enough to protect my hearing without affecting the music.' With many people planning to attend festivals and concerts over the coming months, it is important to make sure you are protecting your hearing. While at the time the noise level from the speakers and those around you may seem okay, the irritating ringing noise you are left with later on can be a cause for concern. One way to solve this problem that won't put a dampener on your night is to buy a set of ear plugs. Specifically designed with concerts and festivals in mind, these earplugs will still allow users to hear the music at TRNSMT and chat with their pals while simultaneously reducing the noise level. One popular pair of concert ear plugs on Amazon are the Alpine Tune Earplugs. Normally retailing for £33.25, shoppers can now buy them for £29.95 in a variety of colours. Available in black, dark blue, neon pink, rose gold, silver and yellow, these Alpine Ear Plugs promise to provide crystal-clear audio at safe volumes (19dB SNR). Using hi-fidelity filters, these ear plugs will let wearers enjoy their favourite music in full, rich sound without risking or compromising their hearing. Delivered with soft oval ear tips in four sizes, these ergonomic ear plugs are comfortable enough to be worn all day. Providing a pressure-free and secure fit, the ear plugs also come with a handy pocket-sized case that can be clipped to a key chain for easy access. For those worried they won't be able to hear their pals while enjoying the concert or festival, these ear plugs come with advanced filters that will result in less shouting and clearer speech. Essentially, wearers will be able to talk naturally without having to take the ear plugs out. Alpine Tune Earplugs £33.25 £29.95 Amazon Buy Now Product Description Another set of popular ear plugs on Amazon are the SENNER MusicPro Ear Plugs. Retailing for £19.99, these ear plugs are designed with triple slats that will adapt to the shape of your ear for comfortable and secure fit. Additionally, the plugs are made with a transparent material which allows inconspicuous use. Alternatively, shoppers can buy the Experience 2 Ear Plugs from the Loop website. Priced at £29.95 and available in four colours, these earplugs are able to filter noise by 17dB so the music stays clear but at a safer volume. Back to the Alpine Earplugs, Amazon shoppers have awarded them a 4.6 star rating. Many shoppers have praised the plugs for their stylish look and comfortable fit, as well as how well they reduced noise at concerts. One happy shopper said: "A great design, really comfortable and they fit perfectly. For the price point, the level of noise reduction and how easy they are to switch to the right size is great." With another adding: "These earplugs are stylish and are really useful for softening loud music/sounds. I appreciate the fact that they provide you with four different earplug sizes so you can find the one that fits you best and provides the best quality. I think they look really sleek too, and the V shape ensures they stay snug in your ears." However, the shopper did also grumble:"The only and main critique I have is the feel of the case. In all honesty it feels really cheap, and while I am sure they did this to cut costs it just feels tacky. However, the earplugs themselves feel great." Another shopper also gave a mixed review: "Comfort OK. Design a bit of a fiddle having specific left and right handed earplugs. Personally prefer Loop Experience for their design and ease of use." Despite this, a five-star reviewer wrote: "I recently bought and used these earplugs at a concert. The sound quality was good, I could hear the music clearly at a comfortable level without any distortion. I could hear friends without them needing to scream over the music or directly into my ear. "The size initially attached was too small, but one of the other options included fit perfect and was comfortable to wear all night." With a fifth shopper commenting: "These earplugs work perfectly for concerts and parties. They reduce the volume just enough to protect my hearing without affecting the music. The sound stays clear and enjoyable. They also comfortable to wear for around 1-2 hours." To buy the Alpine Tune Earplugs, click HERE. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
