GNWFL round five wrap: Brigades and Rovers headline round five in a three-point thriller
The tight contest went down to the wire with the Hawks winning 4.7 (31) to the Demons 4.4 (28).
Maddy Graham starred for the Hawks with three goals while Liberty Graham was named best on ground with one goal to her name in the Brigades' win.
Rovers' Davina Whitney was judged best while her teammates Ella Ricetti, Dainira Papertalk, Mia Allen and Sharntay Westberg were also prominent.
Brigades got off to a flyer in their first quarter with two goals from Graham, getting the Hawks out to a quick lead while Rovers managed only one behind by quarter time.
The Dees were quick to the contest in the first quarter with Westberg booting a major, setting the tone for Rovers getting their day up and running. Rovers managed another early goal in the second term before Brigades snatched two goals of their own.
Brigades went goalless for the rest of the game, failing to convert in front of the big sticks. Rovers managed to land a major midway through the third quarter, finding themselves down by nine points entering the final term.
Another goal by Rovers in the fourth quarter saw them come within three points of the visitors but the Hawks were able to hold off the fighting Dees as Brigades claimed a narrow victory in a low-scoring affair at Greenough Oval.
Rovers now gear up to face Towns in round six while Brigades shift their focus to their upcoming game against Chapman Valley at Mazzuchelli Oval this weekend.
The other game in round five of the GNWFL was between Towns and Railways, which saw the undefeated Bulldogs come away with a big win.
Towns' best on was awarded to Breeanna Hamlett while teammates Emily McAuley, Aaliyah Jones, Jessica Giudice-Nairn and Olivia Bidwell also impressed in the win.
Holly Banes, Charli Bidwell and Jessica Giudice-Nairn all bagged two goals each at the Rec in what was a day to remember for the Bulldogs.
Jasmine Johansen was named best on ground for Railways in the Blues' loss with valiant efforts coming from Abby Green, Hanna Dethlefsen, Grace Freeman and Glenys Butler.
Final score was Towns 8.12 (60) to Railways 2.0 (12).
Railways now face Northampton in Kalbarri this weekend while Towns play Rovers at Greenough Oval in round six.

Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell bolted down from the box to the boundary to seek answers as to why 23 of the 28 goals were scored to the Cathedral end in his side's topsy-turvy, and at times bizarre, 14-point loss to Adelaide on Friday night. In a match punctuated by wild momentum swings, the Hawks burst spectacularly out of the blocks, were held to a total standstill in the second quarter, gained the upper hand in the third, and then were edged out down the stretch. Historians in years to come will assume a mid-winter gale was howling in from the south all evening, but the flags atop Adelaide Oval's heritage-listed scoreboard never budged. 'I actually ran down to the bench to see if there was any breeze at all,' Mitchell said. 'But no... no answers for why they were all kicked at one end. 'It's very rare that one team has the momentum for the whole game. 'They were a little bit cleaner and more clinical when it really mattered.' Will Day was the key figure early, racking up more first-quarter clearances than the Crows' entire shell-shocked team, piloting Hawthorn to a 5.3 to 0.1 ambush which hushed the 50,654-strong crowd into stunned silence. It was easily Adelaide's worst quarter of the season. They responded with perhaps their best. With Jordan Dawson stepping up in the engine room and Riley Thilthorpe getting hold of Tom Barrass, the Crows suddenly started scoring at will out of their back half, keeping the Hawks scoreless while marching to a shock but spectacular 16-point half-time lead. 'Another way in what was a finals atmosphere and our opposition were finals standard.' Nicks was a picture of calmness during that quarter-time reset, such is the confidence he had in his players to be able to spin the contest around – which they did, emphatically. 'We trust our playing group completely,' he said. 'They trust us, so in that moment [quarter-time] there is no need for yelling and screaming. 'You go back three or four years, you'll probably find me yelling and screaming at a quarter-time break. 'I look back on that I think that's me not necessarily trusting that we're all on the same page - and maybe then we weren't. 'It took us time to get to that and show that maturity.'

The fast-finishing Crows kicked six goals to two in the last quarter for a gutsy 15.11 (101) to 13.9 (87) triumph in a Friday night thriller. The Crows slipped 32 points down late in the first term before a sell-out 50,654-strong crowd at Adelaide Oval. They recovered to take the lead, only to lose it and trail by eight points at three-quarter time. The Crows, with stars Izak Rankine and Taylor Walker kicking two goals each in a final term, then finished with a flourish. Walker converted two long-range set shots to seal victory - he kicked three goals for the game, as did Rankine. Katanning Wanderers produced a brilliant win over reigning premiers Boddington, booting 16 goals in wet conditions to strengthen their Upper Great Southern Football League finals hopes on Sunday. The Eagles, who sit one spot above the Tigers on the ladder, got more than they bargained for as the visitors were ruthless in their attack, securing an upset 45-point win in round 11 of the competition. Despite the downpour, the Eagles took off with the ball and landed two swift majors in the first five minutes of the game before the Tigers responded with their own, making for a constant back and forth that ended in a two-point lead for the home side at quarter-time. The Tigers were wild with their charge in second term, crunching their opponent with ease led by a dominant display from best players Jake Blight, Toby Quartermaine, Zane Sutherland, Caleb Keley and James Laurino. Four goals to nil in the second pushed the Tigers to a healthy half-time lead as they went on to secure their sixth win of the season. Wagin tested flag fancies Narrogin in the opening term but the Hawks extended their winning streak to 10 games on Sunday. The margin was just eight points at quarter-time at Clayton Road Oval but the Bulldogs lost Zac South and John Lee to injury as they fell 72 points short in the end. Four goals to nil in the second handed the Hawks the momentum by the long break. The home side kicked nine goals in the rampant second half to win 17.15 (117) to 6.9 (45) as Coen Jackman proved a handful, with five goals for the Hawks.
