Arsenal transfer news: Viktor Gyokeres 'mess' revealed as Premier League rivals eye star
Arsenal have made six new signings so far this summer and there could be even more new additions before the transfer window slams shut Arsenal have enjoyed a busy summer so far as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his squad ahead of another Premier League title challenge. Arsenal have finished second for the past three seasons and are desperate to win the league for the first time since 2004. The Gunners have already signed six new players, with Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga all making the move to the Emirates. There have also been several departures, with Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos sold to Lazio and Cruzeiro respectively and Jorginho, Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey leaving after their contracts expired. Takehiro Tomiyasu has also been released after an agreement was reached to terminate his deal a year early. However, plenty more incomings and outgoings are expected before the transfer window slams shut. Fulham eye Zinchenko Fulham are considering a move for Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer, according to reports. Zinchenko struggled for game time last season, managing just eight starts across all competitions with Mikel Arteta preferring the likes of Myles Lewis-Skelly, Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber ahead of him. It is claimed that Arsenal value Zinchenko at around £15m and Fulham have already 'entered into talks with the player's camp'. However, AC Milan are also said to be interested in the 28-year-old. Gyokeres "mess" Jonathan Chalkias, who works alongside Viktor Gyokeres' agent Hasan Cetinkaya, has lifted the lid on the striker's protracted move to Arsenal. He told Swedish network WTV: "It was a mess. There was a gentleman's agreement with the previous sporting director. If Hugo Viana were still at Sporting, the deal would have been done in an hour. Everything was written, we didn't have time to start a legal battle. "I don't understand how a player who scored so many goals and won three trophies didn't deserve more respect. The sacrifices we made were the turning point for the deal to happen. They offered Gyokeres to Real Madrid, they even made headlines with Man United, but there was a commitment with Arsenal. "Viktor always trusted Hasan Cetinkaya's project: they agreed to move to a league with less exposure, like the Portuguese, to win titles and return to the Premier League. At the time, there were already seven Premier League clubs interested." Odegaard hails Gyokeres Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is "really excited" by the signing of Viktor Gyokeres, branding the striker a "very complete player". "I think you've all seen what he's done in his career so far, especially the last season at Sporting, the numbers speak for themselves," Odegaard said when asked about Gyokeres. "He's a very complete player. He's physical, strong, fast, good finisher and intelligent as well. "I think he's a very complete striker and you can also see the hunger, the energy he brings. I'm really excited to have him with the team. He's only trained a few times, but you can already see the quality, the energy and the willingness."

Emotional NFL commissioner Roger Goodell left choked up in first interview after deadly shooting at NYC offices
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was overcome with emotion as he conducted his first interview since the deadly shooting at the league's headquarters in New York. On Monday night, Shane Tamura, a 27-year-old licensed private investigator from Las Vegas, opened fire at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, killing four people. NYPD have since claimed that Tamura was targeting the NFL offices on another floor but entered the wrong elevator and instead ended up at a real estate office. In the following days, Goodell released a solemn letter addressing the issue and asking colleagues to stay away from the league's Manhattan's offices. Then, on Thursday night, Goodell appeared on NBC's broadcast ahead of the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game to once again speak on the matter. Reflecting on the death of NYPD officer Didarul Islam, Goodell said: 'Well, first, [it's a] tremendous loss. You see the officer's family, his young children... it's something that happens in the line of work for police officers but that never makes it easy. The tragedy unfolded Monday night when Shane Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas exited a double-parked BMW armed with a rifle before entering the midtown-Manhattan skyscraper '[He's] somebody that we see outside the building most every day when we come in. And it hits home, the unnecessary and unexplainable loss. 'It's something that all of us as New Yorkers feel a great pride in the NYPD and the first responders. It was a difficult, emotional afternoon.' While Tamura did not enter the fifth floor - where the NFL headquarters are located - officers have determined that he was in fact trying to locate the league's office. Reflecting on that fact, Goodell said: 'It's a difficult thing, particularly when you're dealing with a senseless act like this. 'There are no excuses for the senseless acts. They're hard for all of us to understand. When it inflicts pain on people you know and people you care about and people you deal with on a daily basis, that's particularly hard. 'But as you know, these acts of senseless violence are happening in our country and around our world far too often. In churches, and schools and synagogues and other places that this should just not be happening. 'We all have to continue to be vigilant and continue to protect ourselves. The NFL is going to continue to do that with our employees and our people.' Goodell also provided an update on the NFL employee who was injured during the shooting and insisted that he's 'stable and improving'. The league commissioner revealed that he got to speak with the family after visiting the victim in the hospital. New York Police Department officials say Tamura then fired on one officer and sprayed the lobby with bullets before taking an elevator to the 33rd floor, where he fatally shot another person and killed himself. A note found in his wallet later implied he was upset with the NFL over his belief he was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head trauma. CTE, as it is known, can only be diagnosed posthumously. Tamura, who was reportedly a former high school football player, asked to have his brain studied after his death. Police say he had a history of mental illness.

Utah governor declares state of emergency as wildfires rapidly spread across thousands of acres
Utah Governor Spencer Cox has declared a state of emergency as wildfires tear through thousands of acres, marking the state's most severe fire season in years. So far in 2025, Utah has recorded 693 wildfires, burning over 114,000 acres and devastating communities statewide, according to officials. The four largest active fires alone account for more than 100,000 acres burned, and suppression costs have surpassed $103 million across local, state and federal agencies. Cox, who has served in the position since 2021, signed Executive Order 2025-08 on Thursday, putting the emergency declaration into immediate effect for 30 days. The order mobilizes all available state resources to protect lives, homes, livestock, and drinking-water supplies. It also activates Utah 's emergency operations plan and authorizes the deployment of the Utah National Guard if needed. 'Heroic efforts are underway as firefighters and emergency personnel work around the clock to save homes and neighborhoods,' Cox said in a statement. 'We are mobilizing every tool at our disposal to support them and keep Utahns safe.' The largest of the devastating blazes is the Monroe Canyon Fire in Sevier County, which has scorched over 37,000 acres and is only 11 percent contained, according to the Utah Department of Natural Resources. The Monroe Canyon Fire has destroyed at least seven homes, as well as 12 power poles, causing widespread power outages across the state's south-central region. Cox is scheduled to travel to Richfield on Friday for a briefing on the fire and to meet with local officials and emergency responders. Continued critical fire conditions, including high temperatures, low humidity and gusty winds have complicated statewide firefighting operations, according to the governor's statement. The Beehive State has experienced 22 Red Flag Warning days this year - conditions marked by high winds, dry fuels, and low moisture levels. The extreme conditions follow record-low snowpack and precipitation, which extended an already dry period across the state. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, more than 60 percent of the state is currently in severe or extreme drought, with the remainder in moderate drought. This year marks Utah's busiest wildfire season since 2020. Fires like the Forsyth Fire in Washington County and the Deer Creek Fire in San Juan County have already destroyed dozens of structures. In his statement, Cox also emphasized the human role in the wildfire crisis. His office reports that approximately 72 percent of Utah's wildfires in 2025 have been human-caused. 'Fire sense saves lives and property by reducing sparks from everyday activities and helping firefighters focus on blazes ignited by lightning,' Cox reminded the public. However, the governor stressed that public and firefighter safety remains the top priority - especially as the state faces longer-term risks from burn scars, debris flows, and post-fire flooding. Cox's emergency order will remain in effect for 30 days unless extended by the Utah Legislature. In addition to the blazes in Utah, over 90,000 acres are on fire in Arizona as part of the ongoing Dragon Bravo Fire. The Arizona Emergency Information Network reported only 4 percent containment as of Thursday evening. Now, wildfire smoke from Utah, as well as Arizona, has spread to Denver and much of Colorado, severely impacting air quality.
