Chelsea given huge fine for breach of financial rules

Chelsea have been fined 31 million euros ($36.50 million) by UEFA for breaches of its financial rules, while Aston Villa, Barcelona and Olympique Lyonnais were also levied with large fines, UEFA announced on Friday.
The punishments come with the potential for far harsher fines down the road, with Chelsea risking being hit with a further 60 million euros if they do not get their finances in order.
Barcelona must pay a 15 million euro fine, with UEFA fining Lyon 12.5 million and Aston Villa five million.
The teams agreed to settlement agreements which cover periods of two, three or four years, with the clubs' final targets to be fully compliant with the football earnings rule by the end of their specific settlement period.
Additionally, Lyon agreed on an exclusion from the 2025/26 UEFA club competitions should the French authority (DNCG) confirm the club's relegation to Ligue 2. REUTERS

Tongue's delight was short-lived, however, as Pant walked in and unsettled the fast bowler with a boundary before he danced down the track to smash it over his head for six. Pant survived when, on 10, he smashed the ball straight to mid off where Zak Crawley spilled the catch, and he made the bowlers pay with a flurry of fours and another six. He also sent his willow flying to square leg where it landed safely, much to the amusement of the Edgbaston crowd, but not the England bowlers who saw their momentum halted after a productive first hour. Pant brought up their 100-run partnership in 89 balls when he smashed Tongue for another six which also took India's lead past 400. Pant lost his bat with another extravagant shot after lunch, but this time he skied the ball to long off where Ben Duckett took the catch. England did chase down 371 to win the first test by five wickets and their highest successful chase came at this ground three years ago when they made 378 to beat India. McMurdock, one of five Reform lawmakers elected to join the UK's 650-strong parliament in the 2024 general election, will now sit as an independent, according to a statement on social media platform X from Reform's main enforcer of party discipline Lee Anderson. While the party - led by prominent Brexit campaigner Farage - has only a handful of lawmakers compared to the governing Labour Party's 403, it leads national opinion polls and gained noticeable ground from Labour in the local elections in May. "The allegations relate to business propriety during the pandemic and before (McMurdock) became an MP (Member of Parliament)," Anderson said in the statement. "At Reform UK we take these matters very seriously." McMurdock did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
