Venus Williams breaks down in tears as she was told she could 'bleed to death'

Tennis icon Venus Williams made an extraordinary return to the court last month at the DC Open after a frightening health ordeal where medics cautioned she might "bleed to death."
The 45 year old battled uterine fibroids and had a myomectomy in July the year before. After being away from tennis for a full year, Williams came back with determination at the DC Open, advancing to the round of 16 in singles while making it to the quarter-finals in doubles.
She's now focusing on the upcoming US Open in New York with fierce determination. Williams has secured a wild-card spot to participate in mixed doubles alongside Reilly Opelka and is waiting for confirmation by August 11 about whether she'll compete for the singles championship - a title she's claimed twice before.
Before her Grand Slam comeback, Williams disclosed her alarming health struggle from the previous year that nearly cost her life. Williams returned to tennis at the DC Open last month (Image: Instagram)
"What a difference a year makes! I played my first tournament in over 16 months (thank you @markdein1 @mubadalacitidcopen! ) and I am now preparing to play the @usopen.", reports the Express.
"This post is in celebration of the last day of fibroid awareness month. There can be happy endings!".
"I was told I was inoperable. I was told I could bleed to death on the table. I was told to get a surrogate and forget the hope to carry my own children. I was misdiagnosed. I went untreated for years and years and years. It's so important to advocate for your health!
"I suffered from severe anaemia, debilitating pain, excessive bleeding and abnormally frequent menstrual cycles for many years. It affected my tennis and the trajectory of my career. Venus was told she could 'bleed to death' during her harrowing health battle (Image: Getty)
"I told my story so other women don't have to go through this and so they can get better sooner. Thank you @drshirazian (my hero! ) and @nyulangone for spearheading my pathway to health, getting me back to the sport I love and for helping to build awareness for this very curable issue.
"I play tennis now because I can play healthier than ever, it is a dream come true! Thanks @laralucaslulu @ladyisha01 @andreapreti88 @isabelbrigido_ and Li Fang the dream team that took care of me and my little puppy Harold when I couldn't!".
Williams' candid revelation about her challenging health battle also comes alongside news of her recent engagement to partner Andrea Preti.
The Italian actor and producer was in attendance in the US Capital to witness his fiancée's victorious comeback to tennis.

Terminally ill James Whale, 74, ‘feels happy to go now' after moving to a hospice

TERMINALLY ill James Whale has heartbreakingly admitted he feels "happy to go now" after moving into a hospice. The broadcaster, 74, previously confessed he "probably won't be here next week" after re-locating to the end of life facility. 6 James Whale has issued an emotional update amid his terminal cancer battle Credit: Instagram/@jameswhaleradio 6 The broadcaster told how he is 'at peace' and 'ready to go now' after moving into a hospice Credit: X/@THEJamesWhale 6 He was diagnosed with kidney cancer back in 2020 Credit: PA James has terminal kidney cancer and recently celebrated his "last birthday" surrounded by loved ones after stopping his treatment. Back in May, the TALK radio host revealed his long-running programme could be coming to an end as he reached the final stage of his battle. James was first diagnosed with kidney cancer back in 2020 yet the disease then spread to his brain, lungs and spine. He has now admitted he "feels at peace" in his new facility after being told he has weeks to live. The charity fundraiser wrote in a new newspaper column: "What's surprised me most is how much better in myself I feel since finally moving into a hospice near my home in Kent a week or so back." He added in his peace for the Daily Express: "I began to feel better immediately. More positive. "I feel at peace here, even though I'm not a religious person. "I know I've reached the end of my life but I'm quite sanguine about it. "Despite everything, I'm happy to go now and a lot of that is due to the people who work here, because they make dying as peaceful and pain-free as possible." TalkTV's James Whale shares emotional cancer battle update as he says 'I haven't got much longer' in heartbreaking video One of the country's most revered radio personalities, James has been in the business for 50 years and, in 2023, received the first ever TRIC Recognition Award for his outstanding work. He's helped countless others too, having launched the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer in 2006 - now known as Kidney Cancer UK - the nation's leading specialist charity of its kind, after beating the illness two decades ago. He then urged fans to support the hospice as he outlined the range of activities they plan for guests. SAD UPDATES Back in 2023, James told how he planned to have two funerals - so he could attend one of them. Yet last month he gave a worrying update as he admitted he was struggling to talk and breathe. Speaking on his podcast Tales of the Whales alongside his co-host wife Nadine in July, they spoke about his conditions. He also admitted his speech has become very slow and he is forgetful, while suffering with painful pressure sores. On the emotional recording, he said: "I can't breathe, I can't think, I can't talk. "Anyway. Good morning. Welcome to Tales of the Whales, our weekly podcast. I have terminal 5 cancer. Can you get 5?" Nadine explained: 'You're getting quite tired, so from next week, we're restricting visitors to just very close friends and family.' He added: 'The most tiring thing I found… I still can't hear very well, which is more frustrating than anything else. "I've become very slow in my speech and then forgetful and everything else." Talking about his pressure sores he said: 'I'm tootling along, which is all you can do really, trying to get my breathing sorted and the mark on my bum.' He humbly asked: "People have to go through a lot worse, don't they? Do they?" The poignant conversation concluded: "Anyway. I don't feel I can go on much more... "The other thing is, my energy levels have gone completely. "So I wish everybody well, and let us hope we go through these phases as quickly as we can." 6 He moved into the Kent hospice last month Credit: x/TalkTV 6 In his podcast with wife Nadine, he told how he had difficulties breathing Credit: Rex

Speaking to co-host Brooke Schofield, Tana didn't hold back about how badly the medication affected her, despite shedding 6lbs in just two days. 'So I shot up Mounjaro,' she began. 'And this is the biggest public service announcement to the whole wide world to never, ever, ever do it. I have been dying this week. Like, dying. Like, crawling on the floor.' Advertisement The reality star, who's known for her chaotic storytelling and viral moments, said she was so nauseous she had to take Zofran – a prescription anti-sickness medication – every day for breakfast just to cope. She claims the fat jab left her "gripping the walls". Tana added: 'I don't wanna get into the bowels. But they are not regular. They're not okay. Or too regular.' The 26-year-old claimed she was sleeping for more than 12 hours at a time and even joked: 'I think I have osteoporosis now because of it.' Advertisement She admitted that the jab worked fast and she felt 'tiny' after dropping the weight almost instantly and said she was happily eating protein. But the side effects weren't worth it. 'I am done with it,' she said. 'I don't think I'll ever do it again.' Doc gives advice on how to tackle Mounjaro side effect of excess loose skin Mounjaro is a diabetes drug that's recently gained popularity in Hollywood and on TikTok as an off-label weight loss injection. It works by mimicking a hormone that helps regulate appetite and blood sugar levels but it's known to cause strong gastrointestinal side effects, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation. Advertisement Tana's extreme reaction, including severe nausea, exhaustion, disrupted digestion and prolonged sleep, is likely due to how the drug slows down digestion and suppresses appetite. Some users also report symptoms like dehydration, cramping and dizziness as the body adjusts. While many have hailed Mounjaro as a 'miracle' fat-loss fix, experts have warned it's not for everyone, especially if taken without medical supervision. Tana's honest confession struck a chord with fans, with many praising her for calling out the risks and opening up about the darker side of so-called 'quick fixes.' Advertisement One fan commented online: "this is so scary". Another added: "Wow, I had no idea the effects were that bad". The star doesn't deny the fat jab's results. As she bluntly put it: 'Anything that's a quick fix, obviously, it works well. But I should not have done that". Advertisement She's not the only user reporting odd side effects. Kelly, from the UK, took to social media to share how her journey on the weight loss jab was going. Kelly is currently on 10mg of Mounjaro a week, but she said it wasn't working as it was supposed to. She said the drug had totally changed her taste buds making it difficult for her to eat. Advertisement Others have warned of severe hair loss. Everything you need to know about fat jabs Weight loss jabs are all the rage as studies and patient stories reveal they help people shed flab at almost unbelievable rates, as well as appearing to reduce the risk of serious diseases. Wegovy – a modified version of type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic – and Mounjaro are the leading weight loss injections used in the UK. Wegovy, real name semaglutide, has been used on the NHS for years while Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a newer and more powerful addition to the market. Mounjaro accounts for most private prescriptions for weight loss and is set to join Wegovy as an NHS staple this year. How do they work? The jabs work by suppressing your appetite, making you eat less so your body burns fat for energy instead and you lose weight. They do this my mimicking a hormone called GLP-1, which signals to the brain when the stomach is full, so the drugs are officially called GLP-1 receptor agonists. They slow down digestion and increase insulin production, lowering blood sugar, which is why they were first developed to treat type 2 diabetes in which patients' sugar levels are too high. Can I get them? NHS prescriptions of weight loss drugs, mainly Wegovy and an older version called Saxenda (chemical name liraglutide), are controlled through specialist weight loss clinics. Typically a patient will have to have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, classifying them as medically obese, and also have a weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure. GPs generally do not prescribe the drugs for weight loss. Private prescribers offer the jabs, most commonly Mounjaro, to anyone who is obese (BMI of 30+) or overweight (BMI 25-30) with a weight-related health risk. Private pharmacies have been rapped for handing them out too easily and video calls or face-to-face appointments are now mandatory to check a patient is being truthful about their size and health. Are there any risks? Yes – side effects are common but most are relatively mild. Around half of people taking the drug experience gut issues, including sickness, bloating, acid reflux, constipation and diarrhoea. Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and clinical consultant at said: 'One of the more uncommon side effects is severe acute pancreatitis, which is extremely painful and happens to one in 500 people.' Other uncommon side effects include altered taste, kidney problems, allergic reactions, gallbladder problems and hypoglycemia. Evidence has so far been inconclusive about whether the injections are damaging to patients' mental health. Figures obtained by The Sun show that, up to January 2025, 85 patient deaths in the UK were suspected to be linked to the medicines. 5 The star opened up about the dark side of 'quick fixes' Credit: GC Images 5 Tana has over 5million followers on her instagram

One player boasts a very different skillset to his dad LIKE FATHER LIKE SON Meet three future Chelsea stars who have VERY famous dads – including one who played for hated rivals NEPOTISM in football can only get you so far. A famous surname or parents who achieved greatly might get you a spot in an academy, but without talent, there is no chance of making it to the game's heights. 8 Thiago Silva's son Isago is part of the Chelsea academy Credit: Instagram / @bellesilva Play Dream Team now! Chelsea however, have currently got three players on the books at Cobham who have both huge reputations to live up to, and also the talent to carve their own names into Stamford Bridge folklore. The question is, with the amount of talent Chelsea already have and continue to buy in abundance, can these three young stars escape their fathers' shadows and thrive on the biggest stage? ISAGO DA SILVA The son of Chelsea great Thiago Silva, Isago joined the Cobham setup when his dad moved over from PSG. Similar to his dad in his younger years, Isago is something of a quiet student, learning his trade as a central defender with one of the best to ever do it as his idol. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL LEIP OF FAITH Chelsea stumbling block in Simons chase as Leipzig not interested in stars Don't get it twisted though, he might be calm but he is also a leader in a young group, composed under pressure and tactically sharp. The 16-year-old already stands at 5ft10, and is able to play leftack as well as in the centre of defence, the kind of versatility admired by Enzo Maresca and shown by the club's recruitment of Jorrel Hato. A key player in Chelsea's Under-15 Premier League floodlit cup triumph, Isago also made his debut for the U18 side last season, not looking one bit out of place against players older than him. He undoubtedly has the biggest shoes to fill of the three, and probably the most hype around his name, but if he even becomes half the defender his father was, he's going to be just fine. 8 Big things are expected of Isago da Silva Credit: Instagram / @bellesilva 8 Thiago Silva at PSG in 2020 with wife Belle and nd their sons Isago da Silva and Iago da Silva Credit: Getty LANDON EMENALO Former Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo's son Landon is the first of the three famous kids to feature in a senior matchday squad, making the bench in the Conference League against Legia Warsaw. The England youngster has already been a part of the Blues' U21's setup and signed his first professional contract in January. Again, versatility is a word that stands out when profiling Emenalo, as he is able to play as a left-sided centre-back as well as in midfield. How Nicolas Jackson could make £80m Newcastle switch | Transfers Exposed A truly brilliant passer of the ball and a midfielder who is technically gifted with the ability to glide through opponents with ease - Landon Emenalo is one to watch for the future. He is almost certainly one to look out for should Chelsea get a generous FA Cup or Carabao Cup draw against lower-ranked opposition, as the lack of Conference League football this season may see those first-team opportunities harder to come by. 8 Landon Emenalo has represented both the USA and England at youth level Credit: Getty 8 Landon Emenalo is highly rated Credit: Getty 8 Landon's dad Michael was once Chelsea technical director Credit: PA:Press Association MATHIS EBOUE His father Emmanuel is regarded as a cult hero in North London, but Mathis Eboue being a blue while his dad was a red is a contrast almost as stark as their playing styles. In December last year, Chelsea completed a deal to sign the highly rated 16-year-old, before he signed a scholarship contract with the Blues in July alongside fellow star Ibrahim Rabbaj, both wearing a cool pair of shades. While his father was a right-back, Mathis Eboue is forward-thinking and can operate on either wing or in the number ten role, loving to carry the ball incisively before striking the ball goalwards with either foot. His dribbling ability and technical skill is perhaps where he shines the most, showcasing a range of skills and directness with the pace and physicality to get the better of most opponents trying to defend him. Arsene Wenger once likened him to Gilberto Silva, but he has grown into quite a different kind of talent, and on a different side of London to the Brazilian. 8 Mathis Eboue, son of Arsenal cult hero Emmanuel, is also at Cobham Credit: Chelsea 8 Arsene Wenger compared Eboue's, left, son to Gilberto Silva Credit: Getty WILL THEY MAKE IT? It's tough to say at this age whether these three will follow Cobham greatness as John Terry and Reece James did, and go on to make hundreds of appearances for their boyhood clubs. But they have certainly got the talent to go a long way in football. The lack of Conference League football this season will not play into their hands, as games against lesser opposition will be few and far between in the upcoming campaign, with Enzo Maresca unlikely to be willing to offer chances to unproven prospects in the Champions League. SunSport will be keeping an eye on their development this season as Cobham looks set for another golden generation of talent ready to come through their ranks.
