Auburn target Cederian Morgan chooses Alabama over the Tigers

USA Today3 days ago
Auburn misses out on another top in-state recruit.
One of Auburn's top targets has made his commitment decision.
Cederian Morgan, a five-star wide receiver and the top recruit in Alabama for the 2026 cycle, is heading to Alabama. Morgan chose the Crimson Tide over Auburn, Colorado, and Florida during a ceremony at Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City. With his commitment, Alabama jumps to No. 6 in 247Sports' 2026 recruiting rankings, and has locked up three of the state's top-10 prospects.
Although Morgan's pledge to Alabama does not affect Auburn in terms of recruiting rankings, it is a big blow for a program that desperately needs good news. Hugh Freeze and his staff lost another 2026 commitment on Monday when four-star wide receiver Denarius Gray flipped his pledge from Auburn to Kentucky. The Tigers now rank No. 89 in 247Sports' 2026 recruiting rankings, dropping an alarming number of spaces after being in the top 25 just over a month ago. Auburn has two four-stars in its 2026 haul and four three-stars.
Auburn will continue working to rebuild its imploded class as the season continues. The Tigers remain in the hunt for several key names such as four-star quarterback Landon Duckworth and four-star linebacker Adam Balogoun-Ali as July heats up.

Mize, Torkelson lead Tigers to 1-0 win over Guardians

CLEVELAND (AP) — Casey Mize threw seven innings of four-hit ball, Spencer Torkelson homered and the Detroit Tigers dealt the Cleveland Guardians their ninth straight loss, 1-0 on Saturday night. It is the fifth time during the Guardians' skid they have not scored a run. It was the 11th time this season they have been shut out, tied with Pittsburgh for most in the majors. It is the third time Mize (9-2) has gone seven innings in 15 starts this season. The right-hander walked two and struck out four as he won for the third time in his last four starts. He threw 102 pitches, only the fourth time in five big league seasons he has reached the century mark. Tommy Kahnle worked the ninth for his ninth save. Detroit was held to two hits by four Cleveland pitchers. Torkelson's 20th homer of the season to lead off the second inning was enough, though. Torkelson drove a fastball from starter Logan Allen (5-7) just over the wall in right-center. It is the first time since 1993 that two Detroit players have hit at least 20 homers before the All-Star break. Riley Greene leads Detroit with 21. Allen allowed one run on two hits in six innings. The left-hander retired the last sevenhitters he faced. It was Detroit's 10th shutout, tied for second-most. Key moment Detroit All-Star second baseman Gleyber Torres left the game in the middle of the first inning after he took an elbow to the head while sliding into second base. Key stat Cleveland has a .165 batting average since its skid started on June 26. It is 4 for 44 with runners in scoring position, including 0 for 5 on Saturday. Up next Detroit left-hander Tarik Skubal (10-2, 2.15 ERA) looks to win his sixth straight start. Cleveland goes with right-hander Gavin Williams (5-4, 3.86), who is 0-1 in his last five starts. ___ AP MLB:

Texas A&M boasts SEC's top returning production entering 2025 college football season

While Texas A&M brought in the No. 11 transfer portal class per On3 Sports, the Aggies are also one of 18 programs to bring back 12 or more returning players in 2025. According to production rankings from CBS Sports, second-year head coach Mike Elko returns 15 total starters ahead of this year's campaign. The program's returning production ranks fourth among all FBS schools and first in the Southeastern Conference. Here is the full list of Texas A&M's expected returning starters for the 2025 season on offense and defense: Offense Defense The most important factor among this list is that all five starting offensive linemen return for the Aggies in 2025. Those contributions in the trenches will prove to be integral for a gunslinger like Reed, who enters this year as one of the nation's most highly touted quarterbacks with a year of experience under his belt against SEC competition. Following a knee injury on Nov. 2 against South Carolina, Moss was sidelined for the remainder of the season after leading the team in rushing for the majority of the 2024 campaign. His return to the starting lineup when kickoff arrives will be much-needed, as the Aggies' rushing attack played a massive role in the offense's success last season before the injury bug struck the running back room. The loss of defensive stars to the NFL Draft, like Shemar Stewart, Nic Scourton, and Shemar Turner, was a massive hit to Texas A&M's defensive production. Returning eight starters from last year's roster helps combat that tremendously, however. Leaders like Williams, who played through a torn meniscus last season, will play huge roles in filling in those gaps created by the loss of the former Aggie defensive talent. One of the most important attributes that all of these starters possess is experience. According to On3 Sports Strength of Schedule Rankings, Texas A&M's 2025 schedule ranks No. 11, which is where the veteran presence on both sides of the ball will play a large factor.
