Bayern Munich join race for Liverpool star as Reds face big transfer decision

The battle to sign Luis Diaz this summer has seen a new challenger enter the fray, with Bayern Munich interested in the Liverpool winger. The future of the 28-year-old has been a topic of discussion this summer after Barcelona made an approach earlier this month. Liverpool rejected that move, but that has not snuffed out transfer talk, with Saudi side Al Nassr also interested in the Colombian. Sky in Germany now report that Bayern are also fans of Diaz and have begun to explore whether a deal can be done. The Reds rejecting Barcelona's approach for Diaz suggests they are not interested in selling him this summer, but it has not been entirely ruled out. The left-winger has two years left on his contract at Liverpool and, given his age, the Reds will never get as much for him as they could do this summer. The former Porto star played a big part in Liverpool's dominant Premier League title win last season, playing 36 league games, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists. It would be a big decision to sell Diaz after the contribution he made over the last campaign, but Arne Slot does also have Cody Gakpo to play on the left wing. Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says he was leaning towards wanting to see Diaz sold during this transfer window, but has changed his mind. 'If I'm being honest, for the majority of this season up until Christmas, I was thinking you sell Diaz in the summer,' Carragher told Sky. 'The way he's played and the way Liverpool's front line might change and with the fact that he can play through the middle in the manager's eyes, he's now going to stay and I think it might be other players who move on in the front line rather than Diaz.' Diaz spoke about the transfer speculation surrounding him earlier this month, saying he is more than happy at Liverpool, but admitted there has been contact with other clubs. 'I'm very happy there at Liverpool, I've always said so. They've welcomed me very well,' Diaz said when asked about links with Barcelona. 'We're in contact with them [Liverpool] right now because we're obviously talking to clubs. It's normal. Apps: 82 (21) Goals: 29 Assists: 15 When asked about renewing his contract with Liverpool, Diaz replied: 'As I told you, I'm waiting for it to happen. 'If Liverpool gives us a good renewal or I get the two years I need with them, I'll be happy and content. 'It all depends on them, I'm just here to decide and look at what's best for us.' Nephew of Celtic cult hero closing in on stunning move to England as he bids to carry his family name in football

HIS uncle sealed a dream move to Celtic 17 years ago after lighting up Northern Ireland with his dazzling dribbling skills. He was announced as Celtic's latest signing on June 19, 2008 - just three days after the birth of his nephew, who is now following in his footsteps. 2 He was born just days before his uncle signed for Celtic 2 His uncle was a fan favourite at Parkhead Credit: Kenny Ramsay - The Sun Glasgow It was a double celebration for the McCourt family as Paddy's football career took a major leap while young Glenn's life was only just beginning. Almost two decades later the teenager is making similar strides to his uncle and is now aiming to carry his family name in football. Glenn McCourt, 17, is reportedly closing in on a stunning move to England after impressing scouts with his displays in Derry City's youth academy. It's almost the same path Celtic hero Paddy took all those years ago as he could've joined West Brom among other teams from the very same club in Northern Ireland. But the rest is history as McCourt - nicknamed the Derry Pele - quickly became a hit at Parkhead with his incredible ability to glide past opponents from the wings. He scored a number of sensational solo goals for Celtic which earned him great praise from manager Gordon Strachan, who insisted the wide-man was one of the most gifted footballers he's ever seen. Norwich City fans will be hoping his teenage nephew Glenn has the same quality in his locker as he's reportedly nearing a move to the English Championship side. According to Pink Un, McCourt, 17, is currently in Norwich finalising a deal with the Carrow Road club. It's stated the Canaries have been tracking the highly-rated midfielder for some time and he also had interest from Premier League clubs.. But the report suggests he REJECTED approaches from teams in the top flight in favour of a move to Norwich. The diggers move in as Celtic Park pitch is dug up He will join the club's development squad next season if the deal gets over the line. Young McCourt has already made his first appearance in senior football having made his debut for Derry City against Drogheda United when he was aged 16. Unlike his uncle who preferred the wings, Glenn plays more centrally and will continue his development as a centre-mid down south. He's been capped several times by Northern Ireland at Under-17 level. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
