Colorado shelters open doors to dogs displaced by Kentucky storm
Colorado animal shelters opened their doors to a group of dogs that needed a new home after a severe storm in Kentucky during April destroyed portions of the shelter where they were housed.

The dogs were previously located at the Hopkins County Humane Society, but the roof of the building was torn off, leaving the dogs at risk of being subject to the elements.
To get the animals a roof over their heads quickly while the Kentucky shelter is repaired, several animal shelters in Colorado helped out through a partnership with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to get those dogs moved to Colorado.
They are now housed and receiving care at Humane Colorado, formerly known as the Dumb Friends League, and the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
Humane Colorado said that the cross-country rescue underscores the power of partnership in the animal welfare community and the commitment of shelters to support one another in times of crisis.
The shelter has taken in eight relocated dogs.

'When we heard about the devastating damage to the Hopkins County shelter, we knew we had to help as they rebuild and continue to support their community,' said Mary Sarah Fairweather, Vice President of Sheltering at Humane Colorado, in a press release. 'Our mission is to end pet homelessness and animal suffering—and that doesn't stop at state lines. This was a clear opportunity to step up, offer support to a shelter in crisis, and help ensure these dogs continue on their journey to safe, loving homes.'
The remaining dogs were sent to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, where they are receiving plenty of love and care.
'At Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, we're honored to support a fellow animal welfare organization during such a difficult time,' said Kelley Likes, President & CEO of Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region. 'Natural disasters can have a profound impact on both people and pets, and we're grateful for the opportunity to step in and help however we can.'
After the pups are settled in and checked out, they will be available for adoption in the coming weeks.

NY debuts new emergency, weather alert system: How to sign up
A new emergency and weather alert system is now available for New Yorkers. Through the free 333111 system, you'll receive text alerts from the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services about severe weather, significant power outages and shelter locations in your area. "My highest priority is the safety of New Yorkers, especially during times of severe and unpredictable emergency events," Gov. Kathy Hochul said. "To best prepare for inclement weather — especially as hurricane season approaches — I am encouraging all New Yorkers to sign up for alerts so they can remain safe and vigilant when high-impact events occur." Here's what to know. It's pretty simple — all you'll need to do is text 333111 with your county or borough name without the word county or any spaces or punctuation marks. If you'd like to receive text alerts for multiple counties, text each county or borough name separately to 333111 and if you want alerts for the entire state, text NEWYORKSTATE. It works with all cell phone carriers, the state says, and is free to sign up barring any message or data rates that may apply through your specific carrier. Signing up is also completely private as the state doesn't have the ability to track or monitor your activity or personal data in any way, according to the state. If you've already signed up for NY-ALERT, you're all set. NY-ALERT recipients will receive the same messages as those registered for 333111. If you'd like to receive email alerts in addition to the text messages, you'll have the option to do so after you sign up for the text alerts by replying with your email address. The kickoff to summer is almost here: What to expect for Memorial Day weekend weather If you no longer want to receive alerts, you can text STOP to 333111 and follow the prompts. For email alerts, click the "unsubscribe" button at the bottom of the email. Pawleys Island to hold ‘summer kickoff celebration' Friday
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – A summer kickoff celebration will take place along the Hammock Coast on Friday evening. People are invited to Pawleys Island Nature Park from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to enjoy live music from 'Second Nature,' a dance floor, and other family-friendly activities. Will it rain again in Boston this weekend? A look at New England's unlucky weather streak.
Boston and New England have had some serious Saturday weather issues this spring, with plenty of rain falling. That might not change this weekend, but it isn't all bad news. In New England, we are trained to endure the long winter and, many times, a rough early spring with the promise of a (sunny) light at the end of the tunnel. We feel as though we "pay our dues" and once Memorial Day hits, it is time to collect. Weekend rain in New England Would you believe it if you heard that this wet Saturday spring pattern has actually been going on for three years now? If you look at meteorological spring (March-May) in Boston: In 2023 it rained on 7 of 13 Saturdays (and that was followed by rain on all 4 Saturdays in June) In 2024 it rained on 7 of 13 Saturdays In 2025 it rained on 8 of 14 Saturdays (and now 1 of 1 in June) CBS Boston Doing a little math, that equates to rain on 55% of spring Saturdays over the last three years. This year may actually be the worst of the bunch. Some rain has fallen in parts of southern New England every Saturday going back to March 22. That is 12 in a row. CBS Boston Will it rain this weekend? We have had some all-day deluges and some grey/showery days, but very few start to finish pleasant Saturdays. This leads us to the BIG question. Can we break the streak this Saturday? The short answer is no, but there are some reasons to be optimistic. The best chance of rain this Saturday is early in the day. We expect widespread showers south of the Mass Pike in the morning and a few, scattered showers to the north. CBS Boston By midday and afternoon, the rain is mostly done. There could be just a few isolated pockets of drizzle but otherwise, we dry out. If you are looking for beach weather, you're going to have to wait at least one more weekend. Temperatures both days will be stuck in the 60s, some 10-15 degrees below the average. Skies will also be mainly cloudy with some sunny breaks here and there. Heading to the Cape? More of the same. Lots of clouds, some breaks and chilly temperatures. The best chance of rain showers comes on Saturday morning. CBS Boston Red Sox and Father's Day forecast The Red Sox will be home this weekend for a big series with the Yankees. They should get all the games in, but it will feel more like April or May rather than mid-June. Last but certainly not least, Sunday is Father's Day. Any and all outdoor plans should be good to go. Whether you're golfing or grilling, it should stay dry all day. Skies will vary from partly to mostly cloudy and temperatures will generally top out in the upper 60s, albeit a tad cooler at the coastline.
