Hong Kong to hold public hospital executives accountable for medical incidents

The authority said on Thursday that the power to appoint and dismiss staff would be assigned to hospital chief executives and department heads instead of headquarters, streamlining the process for replacing underperforming employees.
'This means if a manager identifies an underperforming colleague within their team, they can replace them,' Hospital Authority chairman Henry Fan Hung-ling said.
'Those who fail to meet certain standards will be required to join a performance improvement programme for no more than three months.
'If they do not improve to an acceptable level within three months, we will take appropriate disciplinary action based on the situation.'

Patient safety would be listed as one of the critical assessment criteria in staff appraisals, he said.

Photo: Kylie Knott Another claim is that it cools the body, so on a sweltering day in June, with the temperature in Tai O hovering around 32 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit), the reddish-brown drink with a subtle floral, bittersweet flavour is the perfect tonic. Unlike the mountain begonia drink sold by Hong Kong herbal tea chain Hung Fook Tong, the Tai O version comes in clear, label-free bottles without any clue as to its ingredients.

Alibaba seeks US$1.5 billion from exchangeable bonds for cloud, e-commerce push
Alibaba Group Holding plans to raise HK$12 billion (US$1.5 billion) via exchangeable bonds to fund its cloud business and international e-commerce operations, the company said on Thursday. The bonds will not pay interest but will allow bondholders to exchange them for shares of its subsidiary, Alibaba Health Information Technology. 'Alibaba Group intends to use the net proceeds from the bond offering for general corporate purposes, including investments to support the development of our cloud infrastructure and international commerce businesses,' Alibaba, which also owns the Post, said in a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange.
