Prince William and Kate's solemn holiday pact following short but rocky breakup
After reconnecting following a brief split, Prince William knew he couldn't let his then-girlfriend Kate Middleton go again, and the pair made their commitment clear with a heartfelt holiday vow
Prince William and Princess Kate have now been married for 14 years, with thousands tuning into their fairytale wedding at Westminster Abbey in the Spring of 2011. But their love story very nearly didn't have a happy ending.
The former university sweethearts, who fell for each other as students at the prestigious St. Andrew's, briefly parted ways in April 2007, when life as young graduates took them in different directions.
Fashionable Kate, now, of course, one of the most influential style icons of modern times, was working in London for clothing brand Jigsaw, while William was throwing himself into army life. With the pressures to get engaged reaching fever pitch, the future heir to the throne began having doubts and broke off the relationship in a heartbreaking 30-minute phone call.
Devastated, Kate was allowed to take a week's worth of compassionate leave from work, while William hit the town with pals, reportedly declaring "I'm free!" during a boozy night out at Mayfair's Mahiki nightclub.
This is according to Robert Jobson's book Catherine, The Princess of Wales: The Biography, which details how, having nursed her broken heart, the future queen responded by also making sure to have plenty of fun of her own, stepping out on the town accompanied by sister Pippa.
By the time William was back in his army barracks, Kate was still out enjoying the single life, with her glam look catching the eye of other eligible bachelors, including shipping heir, Sir Henry Ropner.
William, then just 24, reportedly began to realise he could have made a mistake by letting Kate go. In June 2007, they were spotted talking for hours at a party thrown by mutual friend Sam Waley-Cohen. Apparently not wanting to miss his chance again, William invited Kate to a party at his Dorset barracks in Dorset, where the cheeky theme was 'Freakin' Naughty'. The rest, as they say, is history.
However, like many couples before and after them who've taken a break, the pair needed time to reconnect and renew their commitment to each other. And while holidaying together on the dreamy Seychelles island of Desroches in August 2007, they made a solemn pact.
In her book The Making of a Royal Romance, Royal correspondent Katie Nicholl wrote: "With a population of just 50 and three miles long, the paradise island was the perfect escape."
The then twentysomethings, who checked into the five star resort under the names Martin and Rosemary Middleton, spent their days kayaking and snorkelling, but there were also some serious conversations to be had before they could move forward.

According to author Katie: "For a young man who has an inherent fear of tomorrow, this was not easy for William, but the tranquil backdrop of the island was as good a place as any to discuss it."
The writer went on to reveal that "William assured Kate she was the one", adding: "William, who had inherited something of his father's fear of commitment, knew he would lose Kate if he could not give her some form of guarantee.
"They didn't agree to get married there and then; what they made was a pact,' a member of their inner circle explained.
"William told Kate she was the one, but he was not ready to get married. He promised her his commitment and said he would not let her down, and in turn, she agreed to wait for him."
Now, juggling parenthood with the duties of being Prince and Princess of Wales, it would seem that the royal couple have stayed true to the promise they made, all those years ago.

Kate Nash wants to 'collaborate with Kneecap' after police probe Glasto set
Kneecap are known for their provocative lyrics and merchandise, as well as their championing of the Irish language and support for Palestine, and Kate Nash has said she would love to collaborate with them Kate Nash has expressed her eagerness to team up with Kneecap, praising the band for their pro-Palestine political stance. This comes as police are reviewing footage of the comments made by the Belfast rap group and punk duo Bob Vylan at Glastonbury Festival this weekend. Kneecap is highly celebrated by fans for their edgy lyrics, promotion of the Irish language, and support for Palestine. Kate is also a big fan of the group, as she shared with PA: "I love Kneecap. I'd love to collaborate. I love collaboration, actually. I really, really think collaboration is such an amazing and important part of being an artist, because you just learn every time you collaborate with someone different. "So I just did a duet with Sprints, because they covered Foundations, and that was really fun." The 37-year-old singer added: "Kneecap would be amazing to collaborate with. My mum's from Dublin and I think that the way they use their political platform is really important." She went on to say: "I don't think English people really understand their (Ireland's) history at all, they just don't know it. So I think there's an opportunity to educate people about England and Ireland's history, and sort of being half-English, half-Irish myself I have quite a good understanding of that, but I didn't learn it at school. "There's so many amazing musicians to collaborate with. I love Amyl And The Sniffers." Before their gig on the West Holts Stage, several politicians demanded Kneecap be dropped from the Glastonbury line-up, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer deeming their act "not appropriate". During their performance, band member Liam Og O hAnnaidh declared: "The Prime Minister of your country, not mine, said he didn't want us to play, so f*** Keir Starmer." Addressing his bandmate's forthcoming court appearance, rapper Moglai Bap announced they'd "start a riot outside the courts", swiftly adding: "No riots, just love and support, and support for Palestine." Earlier, Bobby Vylan of rap duo Bob Vylan had led the audience in chants of "Free, free Palestine" and "Death, death to the IDF. The Israeli Defence Forces recently killed people waiting for aid in Gaza. Sir Keir condemned the latter chant as "appalling hate speech" and called on the BBC to account for broadcasting such scenes. Commenting on Glastonbury's political undertones, Kate reminded people how the entire festival's history was based on "anti-corporation" before adding it's a "political festival" where people "seek unity, community and a sense of hope". She went on to comment on the "scary things in the world right now", telling politicians to "get a grip". Taking the stage at Glastonbury, Kate performed on the Left Field stage on Saturday evening and surprised fans with a secret set at the BBC Introducing stage on Sunday. She has a history of chart success with hits like Mouthwash and Foundations, with the latter reaching number two in the UK singles chart.

Now Harry has severed ties too with Ms Mondejar Steiner. She backed his annual WellChild charity awards in London and was pictured with him in September on her Mondejar Gallery Instagram page. It read: 'Honoured to support such an important cause and witness the incredible work being done for seriously ill children.' There is no suggestion of attempts to sell access to Prince Harry. The Mondejar Foundation was approached for comment. Charitable Wills last week turned his attention to climate change, declaring saving the planet is a 'team game'. He told a Climate Week gathering his Earthshot prize is aimed at preserving 'all the things we as human beings care about'. Every year this decade the Prince of Wales awards £1million to each of five winners working to save the planet. Prince William was seething at Harry for years but now he has far more serious things to deal with He explained: 'Everything we want to do here starts with a team game. 'And the prize is just the pinnacle of the ability to showcase all the brilliant people around working in this space.' Wills told the audience at Bloomberg's London HQ: 'It takes a village to raise a family. 'If you take that into the concept of a planet, it takes all of us to raise that planet.'

They tried to get rid of me, but they didn't. There is a record executive sweating their t*** off with Matt Healy's mum. 'They're scared of me. I like that. But I was made of mother f****** bricks. But they didn't believe me. I even gave them a second warning a few years later when I told them 'Do not underestimate the girl'. Is it my fault they didn't believe me? 'I'm not going to give my third warning. It's too late for that. I'm taking my bricks and I'm throwing them through the f****** window.' Denise was at Glastonbury this weekend to support her son Matt Healy who was headlining with his band The 1975. Matt meanwhile preached love to fans during the band's set on the Pyramid Stage. Pausing between songs to address the crowd on Friday night, he said: "The lack of politics in this show, it is a conscious decision. "We don't want our legacy to be one of politics - we want it to be that of love and friendship. "You go out into the world and there is loads of politics. We don't need more, we need more love and friendship. "If you are a young kid and inspired about this band, aspire for friendship and love in what you do and you will never fail - and I love you." Last year Kate revealed she had joined OnlyFans to fund her tour. The 1975's Matty Healy slammed by fans for performing with pint and a fag as parents ban kids from watching_1 She said the extra money meant she wouldn't have to compromise on things like staff wages and safe tour buses that aren't overcrowded. Kate said she was determined to put on a "high quality show for fans" and said of her money-making campaign: "I've got a great bum. "I often flash a bit anyway so it was a fun idea, but I didn't think it would get this much of a reaction." She previously revealed she found herself in financial difficulty. The Brit School alum told The Guardian of the dip in her success after Foundations and said: "I'd trusted the wrong people with my money, which meant I had to sell my flat and move back in with my parents. "I'd worked so hard and had nothing to show for it. The worst part was that I knew I wasn't going to give up. "I briefly thought I should become a teacher instead, but then I realised: 'How are you going to do that? You don't even have a degree because you didn't get into any universities.' "Having this career is about fighting your way through it."
