At least 45 private schools, three DU colleges receive hoax bomb threat e-mails
This was the highest single-day tally of bomb hoax threats received by educational institutions in the Capital this year. At least 55 academic institutions in the city have been targeted in the past four days.
An officer said that shortly after being alerted to the threats, teams from Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services, Bomb Disposal Squad, and dog squads were dispatched to the sites. The premises were evacuated and thoroughly searched but nothing suspicious was found.
The schools that were targeted included Richmondd Global School in Paschim Vihar, Bharti Public School in Swasthya Vihar, Hamdard Public School in Talimabad, St. Xavier's Senior Sec. School on Raj Niwas Marg, Mira Nursery School in Janakpuri, Delhi International Public School in Rohini, The British School in Chanakyapuri, North Delhi Public School in Shalimar Bagh, Delhi Public School on Mathura Road, Delhi Public School in R.K. Puram, Amity International School in Saket and Cambridge Foundation School in Rajouri Garden.
DU's Indraprastha College for Women, Hindu College, and Shri Ram College of Commerce were also targeted.
The police suspect that a Germany-based encrypted e-mail service, Tuta Mail, was used by the accused to issue the threats.
Earlier this week, the police had apprehended a 12-year-old boy for allegedly sending hoax bomb threats to St. Stephen's College and St. Thomas School on Tuesday.
'The e-mails sent today indicate that the person behind them is facing mental health problems,' said a senior officer.
The police are planning to rope in mental health experts, apart from cybersecurity specialists, for the investigation.
Rishabh Gupta, the CEO and managing director of Richmondd Global School, which received a bomb threat for the second time this week, said the classes went undisrupted as the threat e-mail was received around 5 a.m. and the premises were thoroughly checked and declared safe by the time students started reaching the school.

However, for Sunil Balyan, whose daughter studies in Class 7 at St. Thomas School, Dwarka, it was a distressing morning.
'At 6 a.m., the school circulated a message saying there would be no classes. This was the third time this week that classes were called off. Internal tests are under way and our children's studies are being affected.'
Following a directive from the Delhi High Court, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has notified standard operating procedures for managing bomb threats in schools, which include installing CCTV cameras, developing evacuation plans, and conducting regular safety audits and mock drills.
Aprajita Gautam, the Delhi Parents Association president, said, 'The DoE should provide security-related information and raise awareness about the impact of such hoax calls.'

Rs 3 cr jewellery heist in Suryapet: Burglars cut through washroom wall to loot store
Hyderabad: In a scene straight out of a heist thriller, unidentified burglars tunnelled through a washroom wall to gain access to a jewellery store in Suryapet and made off with an estimated Rs 3 crore worth of gold and Rs 5 lakh in cash in the early hours of Monday. The daring break-in took place at Santoshi Jewellers, located inside the bustling Mahatma Gandhi Market. The crime came to light in the morning, when neighbouring shopkeepers noticed a gaping hole in the common washroom wall behind the store and alerted the jewellers. "We received a call from the neighbouring shop owner who noticed the hole in the wall. When we rushed in, we were shocked to see the store had been looted," the store management told the media. According to Suryapet police, the gang entered the premises from the rear side of the building, where an unlocked door led them to three shared washrooms. Using crowbars, gas-cutters, and other tools, the burglars created a hole through one washroom, which led into another washroom inside the jewellery store. "They used gas-cutters to slice open the shutter and access the room where the ornaments were kept," he said. Interestingly, the gang did not enter the main showroom. Instead, they targeted the storeroom attached to the showroom, bypassing the front completely. A CCTV camera inside the storeroom recorded the burglars at 12.45 am, but was soon covered with a plastic mug to obscure further footage. Police said a locker inside the room was left untouched, suggesting the burglars knew exactly where to look. After the heist, the gang retraced their path through the same hole, disappearing into the overgrown vegetation at the rear of the building. Santoshi Jewellers initially claimed that 15 kg of gold, Rs 18 lakh in cash, and 400 grams of gold biscuits were stolen. However, by Monday evening, police said the owner was still auditing the inventory to ascertain the exact loss. While initial claims from the shop owner pegged the loss at Rs 15 crore, police said the number was based on panic and not verified. "The owner is still auditing the stock against records. As of now, the confirmed loss is around Rs 3 crore," a senior police official said. At least five persons are suspected to be involved in the burglary. Suryapet police have formed special teams and are probing whether it's the handiwork of a Jharkhand-based gang known for executing similar operations. "We are analysing the modus operandi, reviewing CCTV footage, and matching fingerprints lifted from the scene," the police official added. A Clues team was pressed into action to assist with forensic evidence. The shop, which had been closed over the weekend, was in the process of shifting to a new location, a detail police believe the offenders might have known. The gold ornaments typically kept on display had already been moved to the storeroom, making the burglars' strike eerily precise and well-timed, police added.

Top court denies bail to corporator's murder accused, orders fast-track trial
The Supreme Court has refused to grant bail to an accused in Maharashtra's Bhiwandi-based corporator, citing the gravity of the allegations and ongoing trial proceedings. Enforcement directorate arrests two Ramprastha Group directors
NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate on Monday arrested Sandeep Yadav and Arvind Walia, promoters of Haryana-based realty company Ramprastha Group , as part of a money laundering investigation linked to an alleged Rs 1,100 crore fraud with homebuyers, official sources said. The arrests came after the Gurugram zonal office of the federal probe agency raided three premises in Delhi and Gurugram, including those of the directors, early morning. The two are directors and majority shareholders in Ramprastha Promoters and Developers Pvt. Ltd. ( RPDPL ), according to the sources. They have been taken into custody under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), they said. The company or its promoters could not be contacted for a comment on the ED action against them. The agency had conducted a survey against the group in September 2024. Searches were conducted against the group in September 2024, too. It is alleged that the RPDPL collected about Rs 1,100 crore from more than 2,000 homebuyers for various housing schemes like Project Edge, Project Skyz, Project Rise and Ramprastha City (plotted colony project) in various sectors of Gurugram during 2008-11. The possession of the flats or plots is yet to be given, even after 15-20 years, the sources said. Earlier this month, the agency had attached colonies and plots spread across more than 1,900 acres and worth over Rs 681.54 crore of the group in Gurugram as part of this investigation. The money laundering case stems from multiple FIRs filed by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi and Haryana Police based on complaints of numerous homebuyers against RPDPL and its promoters, like Yadav, Walia and Balwant Chaudhary for their "failure" to deliver promised flats and plots within the promised timeframes, the ED had said in a statement. The company and its promoters "diverted" the funds sources from buyers of these projects to its group companies as advances for the purchase of land parcels, instead of using them for completion of promised homes, it had said. The company said on its website that it holds a large land bank in Gurugram with a combined development potential of over 80 million sq ft between Gurugram and Ghaziabad. "We have successfully sold 8,000 dwelling units in the region and have the potential to reach nearly 1,00,000 dwelling units in the days to come," it said.
