Farewell, Irene: Lynne McGranger's Home and Away exit storylines revealed

7NEWS2 days ago
Home and Away fans, it's time to get the hankies ready. The long-running soap has released details of how beloved character Irene Roberts will depart Summer Bay — and it looks like it's going to be a weeper.
Lynne McGranger has famously played the Summer Bay matriarch for 33 years, and filmed her final scenes back in March of this year — they are set to air in August.
'After over three decades as the Bay's tough-talking, big-hearted battler, Irene's gripping final storyline is now in motion, and it will have all of Australia talking,' an official release reads.
'In recent weeks, the much-loved character has experienced a series of alarming memory lapses, including a concerning incident where she forgot she was babysitting Archie and nearly left him home alone.
'Next week, Irene takes her first step toward confronting the truth.
'With the support of her dear friend John Palmer (Shane Withington), she bravely meets with Dr Bree Cameron (Juliet Godwin) for a medical consultation.
'It's there that Irene is faced with a gut-wrenching reality. There's no coming back from this one.'
McGranger, who was recently nominated for both a Silver and Gold Logie at this yea'r 65th TV Week Logie Awards, admitted earlier this year that filming her exit storyline was an emotional experience.
The 72 year-old was instrumental in deciding how her much-loved character would leave the series, and said she was satisfied with how everything is set to play out on screen.
'I can't tell you (much) — the audience will have to wait and see — but I went and spoke to the producers and the head writer and ran (my idea) past them, and they loved it,' she told Perth Now earlier this year.
'(The story) is very pertinent, and very important, and I am really very proud of it,' McGranger said.
'From what I have read, and from what we have filmed so far, it is so well written — I just hope I can do it justice.
'But I know my fellow actors will support me, and I'm happy with the way it is all unfolding.'
Don't miss a moment as Home and Away counts down to the departure of a television icon.
Home and Away's Lynne McGranger is nominated for the 65th TV WEEK Logie Awards, airing exclusively on Seven Sunday, 3 August. Click here to vote.

Julian McMahon's sweet final exchanges with his lookalike daughter surface as tributes pour in

Actor Julian McMahon was one of Australia's brightest stars. After getting his start on soap The Power, The Passion in 1989, starring as Kane Edmonds he went on to star in beloved Aussie soap Home and Away, starring as Ben Lucini from 1990 to 1991. McMahon quickly found success on US TV with a number of hits, including as Detective John Grant in Profiler before hitting it big as Cole Turner on Charmed, from 2000 to 2005, and Dr Christian Troy in Nip/Tuck from 2003 to 2010. The talented star then moved to the Hollywood big screen playing Victor Von Doom in superhero franchise Fantastic Four in 2005 and again in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2007. In a series of public exchanges on Instagram, McMahon was playful and supportive with Madison, who only recently started a career as a yoga teacher at a studio in Miami. A cheerful Madison posted in March: 'Taught my first yoga class today. I guess dreams do come true.' The famous actor, appearing every inch the loving dad, fired back: 'Your (sic) awesome!!!!!' Madison took a playful dig at her actor father, correcting his post: 'no YOU'RE awesome.' Julian proved himself to be a supportive dad, as Madison took on her first yoga class in March. She continued: 'Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. 'His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. 'We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.' Actress Rose McGowan shared a tribute to McMahon, whom she starred with on Charmed. Charmed co-star Rose McGowan led the celebrity tributes writing on Instagram, 'Julian you force of brilliance, wild talent and humour. 'For you, your family and loving fans all over the world, I pray comfort.' Fellow Charmed actress Holly Marie Combs also shared a tribute. Your zest for life and crazy making sense of humour will be sorely missed,' she wrote. 'The joy and laughter you were the direct cause of will always be remembered. I hope you find our lady friend and dance in those rose petals.' Fantastic Four co-star Ioan Gruffudd also shared a tribute. 'This is terribly sad news. Even though we played each other's nemeses, there was always so much lightness and laughter working together. Every encounter with him was a joy,' he said. 'It was an honour to be Dr. Richards to his Dr. Doom. My heart goes out to his family 'God speed, Julian.'

Hailey Pinto: Actress opens up about her first Home and Away Logies nomination

Almost a year to the day since her first scenes aired on Home and Away, Hailey Pinto will walk the red carpet at this year's TV Week Logie awards The 24-year-old, who plays Abigail Fowler on the popular soap, is in contention for the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent. 'I'm so excited,' she said. 'My first episode aired on August 8 (last year), so it's been a real wild ride. 'But it was also kind of nice to be able to sit with the news for a little bit, because it's quite overwhelming, as exciting as it is. Pinto, who attended Sydney's Screenwise Film & TV School, graduating in 2001, said she initially struggled to get representation after graduating. 'I went through during COVID, so it was all kind of a great, big mess,' she said. 'After I graduated it was really hard to break in and get an agent, but, eventually I was able to get one a year-and-a-half after I graduated, and three months later I booked Home and Away … it was the first acting job I have ever been paid for.' In the year since, Pinto has been front and centre in some major storylines, including one which saw her character Abby struggle with substance abuse. 'It was a really important story for me — I really took (the story) under my wing, and I really wanted to protect it and do it justice as much as possible,' she said. 'Addiction is such a heavy topic that affects so many people, and I know people around me (who have suffered), so it was important to me.' Pinto is not the only Home and Away star up for a gong, with Lynne McGranger, who famously left the show earlier this year after playing her character Irene for 33 years, also noimnated. McGranger is competing for the coveted Gold Logie. 'She is no longer working on set anymore, but I was able to speak with her a little bit,' Pinto said of their duel nominations. Home and Away's Lynne McGranger and Hailey Pinto are nominees for the 65th TV Week Logie Awards, airing exclusively on Seven, Sunday August 3.
