How no-nonsense Lucy Bronze, who played the entire Euros with a fractured tibia, left fans swooning over THAT leg-taping clip

Footballers have long been known to be the heartthrobs of the sports scene - with famous celebrity crushes including Beckham, Messi and Ronaldo - but now a new, fierce contender has emerged following the Lionesses' historic feat at the Euros last night.
As England defeated Spain 3-1 nail-biting penalties on Sunday, fans couldn't believe the shocking post match interview in which right-back star Lucy Bronze revealed that she had been playing the whole tournament with a fractured tibia.
It's not the first time during this year's UEFA run that the 33-year-old had viewers obsessed.
She also became the subject of many a viral TikTok after tending to her own hamstring injury after seeing that paramedics were preoccupied tending to other players.
As the squad faced-off Sweden earlier this month, audiences went wild at the moment, dubbing it 'the most Lucy Bronze thing they've ever seen'.
'She kills me,' one penned, while another agreed, writing: 'Casually strapping up her own hamstring like it's whatever.'
A third wrote: 'It's the first time I've seen a bandage look cool.'
Elsewhere, one commented: 'Strapped herself up, then took a must score penalty and smashed it home. Bada** moment.'
On social media, people also shared clips, joking about being mesmerised by the viral moment.
'Girls are like "I needed this" and it's literally just watching clips of Lucy Bronze strapping her own leg on repeat,' @beccasianh shared.
In another, couple account @mim_elss posted a clip saying: 'When I go to see my girlfriend but she's watching edits of Lucy Bronze "self taping".'
In another, @baronessbt quipped that her girlfriend 'hasn't been the same since Lucy Bronze self-strap'.
As if this wasn't impressive enough, on Sunday Lucy revealed she had been smiling through pain for the entirety of the Euros -with an injury she had kept secret until after the final.
She was taken off at half-time in extra time during Sunday's final, but when asked about the new knee injury she picked up during the game, the athlete casually disclosed that she had already been playing through far worse.
'I have actually played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia,' she told BBC Sport. 'And then I have hurt my knee on my other leg.
'That's why I got a lot of praise from the girls after the Sweden game, as I've been in a lot of pain. If that's what it takes to play for England, that's what I'll do. Very painful.'

The pro is known to have an impressive set of skills, speaking English, Portuguese, Spanish and French. Speaking to She's a Baller , goalkeeper Hannah Hampton was reflecting at the viral moment Lucy was 'doing her own physio' at the England versus Sweden game
It sparked an outpouring of disbelief and admiration across social media, with supporters calling the player a 'beast'.
'She really said pain is temporary but trophies are forever,' one wrote. 'Built different doesn't even cover it at this point.'
It's not just Lucy's tough-as-steel athletics that has people obsessed, however. She has also wowed her fellow teammates and fans alike with her languages knowledge.

'But the ref was Spanish,' she revealed. 'And the ref was asking her, "so what are you a physio now?".
'And Bronzie's there replying in Spanish "yeah I do everything"'.
And elsewhere, her close bond with Sunday's match rival - but dear close friend Ona Batlle - had people swooning.

In one emotional moment Lucy consoled her close friend Ona Batlle, 26, after England came from behind to beat Spain and retain their Women's Euros crown.
Lucy started every game of the tournament but was forced off in extra-time before the Lionesses went on to win 3-1 in a nerve-shredding penalty shootout.
At 33 years, eight months and 30 days, Lucy was her side's oldest player at the tournament and she was again front and centre of a record-setting triumph.
Chloe Kelly proved herself the hero for her country again by slotting home the winning spot-kick after Mariona Caldentey and Aitana Bonmati saw their efforts saved by goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, while Salma Paralluelo skewed off target.
Jubilant celebrations saw Chloe's team-mates flood onto the pitch to begin the party, but Bronze took a moment to escape the hubbub and made a beeline for Ona.
Inseparable on and off the pitch, the two friends high-fived before sitting down on the pitch, seemingly discussing the pulsating showdown that had played out in Basel.
Once the madness had died down, Lucy, kitted out with her gold winner's medal around her neck, took a stroll with Ona, who had changed into her tracksuit.
The roles were reversed back in 2023 after Spain got the better of England in the World Cup final, when Ona consoled a tearful Lucy after full-time.

The duo were all-conquering team-mates in the 2023-24 season when they were at Barcelona, and they struck up a blossoming friendship, too. They also won the Champions League, Liga F, the Spanish Cup and Spanish Super Cup together.
Lucy then completed a move back to England with Chelsea last summer.
Lucy and Ona enjoyed a holiday together ahead of Euro 2025 in Switzerland, sharing photos of the trip across their social media profiles.
It appeared the duo were celebrating Ona's birthday, with the Spaniard's caption on Instagram reading: 'Bday week.'
One photo shared online showed them enjoying an ice cream in the sun, while another saw them relaxing on a lilo together in the sea. Lucy and Ona also took a boat trip on their vacation and spent time together in a private pool.
Their holiday this summer was by no means their first. Last Christmas, Ona posted snaps of the two at Disneyland Paris, with the caption: 'What a magical place'.
Lucy tends to keep her personal life very private. Hailing from Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland, she was brought up bilingual thanks to her Portuguese father and was exposed to football from a very early age by her older brother, Jorge.
Head coach Sarina Wiegman paid tribute to Bronze, saying: 'Her mentality, the whole team has an incredible mentality, but she has a crazy mentality, it's unbelievable.'

Miyu Yamashita holds off Charley Hull to win first major at Women's Open

Japan's Miyu Yamashita held off a strong challenge from Charley Hull to win the AIG Women's Open by two shots on Sunday. Yamashita, who began the day leading by one from Kim A-lim, carded a steady final-round 70 in blustery conditions to land her first major title with an 11-under-par total of 277 at Royal Porthcawl. Hull, three strokes behind on six under overnight, emerged as the closest challenger as she picked up five birdies in a stretch of 10 holes either side of the turn. That twice took the Englishwoman within one shot of the lead but Yamashita, who put herself in a position of strength with three birdies on the front nine, was always able to keep herself in front. A key period came as Yamashita overcame a nervy missed birdie putt to save par on the 14th by holing from an awkward distance. At around the same time Hull, playing two groups ahead, dropped a shot at the par-four 16th after visiting a bunker and the rough before underhitting a chip. It might have been worse but for holing a lengthy putt to escape with a bogey, but another shot was given away on the following hole. That saw Yamashita's lead increase to three and allowed her to finish in relative comfort, with a bogey on the 17th the only blemish on her card. Hull ended joint-second on nine under – her fourth runner-up finish in a major – alongside Minami Katsu of Japan, who birdied the last to shoot 69. Kim's challenge faded with a round that featured six bogeys but the 2020 US Women's Open winner managed to claw her way back into a share of fourth place on seven under with a birdie on the last. Another Japanese player, Rio Takeda, was alongside her after a 71. Lottie Woad, winner of the Scottish Open last week on her professional debut, overcame bogeys on her first two holes to shoot 71 and finish in a tie for eighth place on four under. Another Englishwoman, Mimi Rhodes, had a moment to savour with a remarkable hole-in-one on the par-three fifth, thanks to a fortunate ricochet off playing partner Stephanie Kyriacou's ball. Australian Kyriacou, who made a hole-in-one herself in the second round, played first and went close to another ace with a shot that came to rest inches from the cup. Rhodes then played a very similar shot and, luckily for her, Kyriacou's ball was handily placed for it to deflect in off. That was the undoubted highlight of a 74 that saw Rhodes finish alongside Georgia Hall, who shot 75, on one under.

Lando Norris ready to go all the way in championship battle with Oscar Piastri

Lando Norris believes his championship battle with Oscar Piastri will go to the wire following his victory at Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix. Norris started third and dropped to fifth after a poor first corner at the Hungaroring before he rolled the strategy dice – stopping one less time than his rivals – to take the lead and then held off Piastri's late charge in a brilliant finale. Piastri came within centimetres of colliding with Norris on the penultimate lap when he momentarily lost control of his McLaren as he attempted a banzai move for the win. But Norris survived and held his nerve to keep the fast-charging Australian at bay to land his fifth win of the season – his third in his last four appearances – taking the chequered flag just six tenths clear and reducing the championship deficit to nine points with 10 rounds remaining. Max Verstappen, who finished ninth on Sunday, remains in third in the standings but 97 points off the championship pace. 'I'm dead,' said Norris. 'In the final stint Oscar was catching and I was pushing flat out. My voice has gone a little bit. 'It has been a tough battle so far with Oscar and it is going to continue to be tough. The margins between us are pretty small. There are things I can do better and improve on, and I am sure he will probably say the same thing. So, it is going to be a good and tough fight, probably until the end. 'Even though the results have looked great, I'm not making my life very easy at the minute. If I can work on those things, then I'll be in a better place.' Norris' win in the concluding round before the summer break reignites his bid to land a maiden world crown. But the Bristolian can count himself somewhat fortunate to be standing on the top step of the podium. At the start, Norris got away well from his marks, but an attempt to pass Piastri on the inside of the opening corner backfired. Norris did not commit to the overtake and that left him in no-man's land, allowing George Russell and then Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso to breeze through. On lap three, Norris fought his way clear of Alonso but was then tucked up behind Russell and making little progress. Piastri and Charles Leclerc, who controlled the first stint of the race from pole position, stopped for new tyres on laps 18 and 19 respectively. Russell also peeled into the pits on lap 19 promoting Norris to the front. McLaren were now considering a one-stop strategy. Norris' race engineer, Will Joseph, was on the radio: 'Lando, 40 laps on the hard tyre, you up for it?' Norris replied: 'Yeah, why not?' On lap 31 of 70, the Englishman came in for his sole change of tyres before lighting up the timesheets with the fastest laps of the race so far. In his haste to catch up, Norris then dropped two wheels through the gravel on the exit of the chicane, which irked Joseph. 'Lando, just keep the focus, we don't want these mistakes,' he said. Leclerc, Piastri and Russell were all forced to stop again. When it all shuffled out, Norris led Leclerc by seven seconds, with Piastri five seconds further back. But Piastri was on the move, swatting Leclerc aside on lap 51 and then set about reducing Norris' nine-second advantage. With five laps to go, Piastri was just a second behind his team-mate, and on the penultimate lap, the Australian went for glory at the first bend. However, Norris retained his composure and remained ahead to land what could be a pivotal win in his championship charge. Russell took the final place on the podium with Leclerc a disappointed fourth. The next race takes place in the Netherlands on August 31.

Chelsea new boy Jorrel Hato explains why he joined Blues despite secret Liverpool visit

Jorrel Hato has completed his move to Chelsea despite interest elsewhere as the Dutch defender claimed the Blues were the best place for him after previously being seen at Liverpool Jorrel Hato has claimed that "Chelsea is the best place for me" after completing his move to the Blues despite the likes of Liverpool also being keen on the young defender. ‌ Hato had risen through the ranks at Ajax and had a number of clubs in Europe eyeing his services, but he has chosen to make the move to Stamford Bridge, signing a deal in the capital until 2032. ‌ Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah were Chelsea's two central defenders when they claimed the Club World Cup, but they will now face competition from the 19-year-old, who has set the club back £37million. But Hato is convinced he's found the best environment for him. ‌ He told the club's website: "I'm very excited, I'm so happy to be here. I thought a lot about my future and wanted to take the next step in my career. Chelsea is the best place for me to do that so I'm very happy." Talk of a move to Liverpool ramped up after the defender was seen at Anfield during Liverpool's win over Ipswich in January. Hato's list of suitors was understood to include Liverpool, who have considered adding a new central defender this summer. However his weekend visit on Merseyside was due to his relationship with fellow Dutchman Ryan Gravenberch, who invited Hato as a guest to watch the Reds. The pair have been playing together with the Netherlands, with Hato making his senior debut at the age of 17 and picking up six caps. He also captained the Dutch side at the U21 Euros this summer. ‌ Liverpool have sold Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen this summer with Ibrahima Konate entering the final 12 months of his deal. He is thought to be keen on a switch to Real Madrid, which could leave the Reds light in defence. They have also been heavily linked with Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi. Chelsea's latest arrival takes their summer spend to the £250m mark. Hato is the first major defensive arrival with Enzo Maresca instead choosing to bolster his frontline. Joao Pedro signed from Brighton for £55m and played a key role in the Blues winning the Club World Cup. Liam Delap has also joined from Ipswich, leading to questions over the future of Nicolas Jackson. Jamie Gittens has returned to his homeland after impressing with Borussia Dortmund for £48.5m. RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons is thought to be high on Chelsea's shortlist. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
