Pride@Godrej 2025: Beyond Symbolism, Empowering LGBTQIA+ Voices and Businesses
The Group recently hosted a vibrant Pride March at its headquarters, Godrej One, led by Manish Shah, Managing Director of Godrej Capital, and joined by senior leaders across the organization. This march was a powerful demonstration of solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community, including Godrej's queer employees in India and globally, alongside their allies.
A key highlight of Pride@Godrej 2025 was the launch of Queer Directions—a pioneering publishing imprint in collaboration with Westland Books, dedicated to amplifying queer voices and narratives. The event began with the Pitch Bazaar, where over a dozen unpublished queer writers connected with publishers and media professionals. In parallel, a Queer Bazaar showcased products from queer-owned small businesses, fostering visibility and economic opportunities.
The celebration culminated in a delightful performance of Jhumkewali, a play supported by Godrej Properties Limited, which explores themes of lesbian first love and self-discovery set in the 1970s. Performed in multiple Indian languages, the play embodied the event's inclusive ethos, celebrating the intersection of queerness with India's linguistic and cultural diversity.
This day-long celebration seamlessly blended culture, conversation, and community through thoughtfully curated experiences.
'What excites me most about this celebration is how we moved beyond just rainbow flags to create real opportunities,' said Parmesh Shahani, Head of the Godrej DEI Lab and author of Queeristan. 'When queer writers feel confident enough to pitch their stories to industry professionals, when small queer businesses get a platform to showcase their work, that's when you know inclusion is working. We are not just talking about diversity; we are actively creating pathways for queer voices to thrive.'

Godrej Properties is celebrating Pride Month across its zones with Pride marches, storytelling sessions, inclusive workshops, and creative activities such as art contests and wall painting. Godrej Capital is fostering inclusion through events at Pride@Godrej One, including Nukkad Nataks, allyship panels, LGBTQIA+ hiring drives, and wellness programs. Godrej Consumer Products is leading QueeRising 2025, a global campaign celebrating queer identity through conversations, connections, and inspiring change. Godrej Chemicals is championing Pride Month with awareness campaigns and LGBT+ sensitization workshops, while Godrej Agrovet Limited is organizing employee workshops focused on workplace allyship.
This year too, a Pride flag and other queer-affirming signage have sparked meaningful conversations among employees and visitors alike, reflecting the organization's evolving commitment to visibility, dialogue, and genuine inclusion.

Seafood, exotic Indian dishes highlights of dinner buffet in KL
CHEF Vengadesen Sundarasan, 38, did not begin his career at culinary school – he initially studied engineering but discovered his passion in the kitchen. Now with 19 years' experience, he is Crowne Plaza Kuala Lumpur City Centre's chef de cuisine. 'I had applied for a job in a hotel's engineering department but there was no vacancy. 'But the hotel had an opening in its kitchen crew team, so I took it,' he recalled. Malabar Briyani Seven months later, when there was a vacancy in the engineering department, Vengadesen decided to stay in the kitchen. 'My paternal grandfather had a catering business and that might have influenced me,' he said. Vengadesen's forte is in pastries as well as Western and Indian dishes. 'Indian food is my speciality. 'I particularly enjoy Indian food from the Malabar region and Kerala state, which is not spicy but flavourful. 'I learned most of my Indian cooking from a chef from Kerala,' he said. 'The spread's highlights are seafood dishes such as Boston lobster, Malabar Briyani, and Udang Galah Masak Sambal. 'We also feature various sushi and chilled seafood on ice.' The chef recommends the Malabar Crab Masala. 'Kerala dishes such as Malabar Crab Masala are cooked with coconut oil, which adds flavour.' The seafood-on-ice selectionfeatures lobsters, briny oysters, mussels, clams and prawns. Hot stations showcase grilled seafood, including whole fish of the day, along with crab, river prawns, salmon fillets and beef short ribs – all glazed with rich sauces. Just ask Kuan Chee Heng, better known as Uncle Kentang, Malaysia's beloved humanitarian who has made it his life's mission to help those who have fallen through society's cracks. Last weekend, Uncle Kentang found himself in one of those heart-wrenching situations that would keep any decent person up at night. An Indian father had approached him, tears streaming down his face in public, desperately seeking RM40,000 to keep his daughter in medical school. She was in her final year at Manipal University – so close to becoming a doctor, yet so far from affording it. 'He had approached many leaders of the Indian Community but to no avail,' Uncle Kentang shared on his Facebook page. He has exhausted all his savings so that she can pursue her studies. When Hope Seemed Lost, Hong Kong Called Here's a guy who runs ambulances and helps the poor and needy daily, watching his own funds dwindle to almost nothing. Yet he couldn't bear the thought of this young woman's medical dreams dying for want of money. 'I was scratching my head,' he admitted, torn between his existing commitments and this father's desperate plea. Then, as if scripted by Hollywood itself, the phone rang. It was a call about a donation from renowned Hong Kong actor, director, and television executive Eric Tsang and his team of Hong Kong and Malaysian artistes. They were in Malaysia to perform at the They'd heard about Uncle Kentang's work and wanted to help. The timing? Pure magic. 'It is like God answering my worries,' Uncle Kentang wrote, still seemingly in disbelief at the coincidence. From Stage to Salvation: The Genting Ceremony The donation ceremony took place at Genting, where Uncle Kentang received a check for a whopping RM200,000 from Tsang and his team of artists. The moment was captured in a photo that tells the whole story – entertainers from both sides of the South China Sea, united by a local humanitarian's simple desire to help others. Uncle Kentang was clear about his intentions: once the money comes through, that Indian medical student is getting her RM40,000. No questions asked. 'DO KINDNESS AND GOD WILL BE WITH YOU,' he wrote, perhaps summing up the entire beautiful coincidence. It is not a coincidence as God knows how troubled and sad I am when I cannot help someone who truly needs our help. The medical student probably doesn't know it yet, but her dream of becoming a doctor just got a lifeline from the most unexpected source. #SHOWBIZ: 'The Saga of Taj Theatre' combines classical dance and comedy
KUALA LUMPUR: Mahavidya Dance Theatre (MDT) is set to return to the stage with 'The Saga of Taj Theatre', a captivating multi-genre performance. This unique production seamlessly blends Bharatanatyam, comedy theatre, and film projection into a single, compelling experience. The show will be staged at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC) on July 26 and 27. This original production tells the story of an old theatre on the brink of demolition – a symbolic setting where the past and future dramatically collide. As the narrative unfolds, the performance beautifully incorporates a vibrant dance drama dedicated to Lord Brahma, a deity long associated with creation in Indian cultural tradition. To ensure a deeper audience connection, all dances are fully subtitled in English, and the innovative use of multimedia projections provides an accessible and visually rich storytelling experience. More than 20 performers will take to the stage in this grand production. The choreography and music are the result of a collaboration between award-winning artists from Malaysia and India, drawing from ancient South Indian classical traditions. Percussion arrangements are by Maestro Kalaimamani S. Gopakumar, with lyrics penned by Nirmala Raghavan. MDT founder Sheela Raghavan-Tan is responsible for the dance research and choreography. MDT operates as a non-profit dance school, offering free performing arts training to children from all backgrounds. Proceeds from 'The Saga of Taj Theatre' will directly support the expansion of these outreach programmes and help create more platforms for young, aspiring performers. Tickets for both the 5pm and 8pm shows are by donation.
