Israel-Iran Conflict: After days of tensions in the Middle East, as Israel and Iran exchanged several attacks, a ceasefire was reached. Meanwhile, several media reports had earlier claimed that the United States had vetoed the plans to kill Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. On the other hand, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has revealed the intentions of his country regarding the assassination.
ANI reported, citing Al Jazeera, that Katz said that Israel wanted to assassinate Khamenei during the recent 12-day conflict. Speaking to Israel's Channel 13, he stated on Thursday that his country did not require Washington's permission to carry out the operation.
This claim of the Israeli Defence Minister countered the reports of a US veto on assassination plans. He said, "We wanted to eliminate Khamenei, but there was no operational opportunity."
As per Al Jazeera, Katz asserted that Israel had a "green light" from Trump to strike Iran again should its nuclear activities resume. "I do not see a situation where Iran will restore the nuclear facilities after the attack," he said.
Was Khamenei Aware Of Plan?
Al Jazeera also reported that Katz further claimed that Khamenei was aware of the threat and went into deep hiding, cutting communication with commanders who had replaced Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) leaders killed in the initial Israeli strikes.
The Iranian Supreme Leader reportedly released video messages during the Israel-Iran conflict, but there has been no confirmation yet that he was cut off from the military commanders.
The plan, if executed, would have resulted in a major escalation of the tensions between the two West Asian nations.
Iran's Regime Change
According to Al Jazeera, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump had earlier hinted that the war could lead to regime change in Iran. Trump had posted on social media that the conflict could "MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN."
The remarks came amid reports of damage to Iran's nuclear infrastructure following US strikes on key sites including Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. Meanwhile, as per ANI, Khamenei on Thursday said that the US had "exaggerated" the extent of the damage.
The 12-day war concluded with a US-brokered ceasefire following Iran's retaliatory missile attack on Qatar's Al Udeid Air Base.

Last week, the US struck three key nuclear facilities in Iran amid the conflict between US ally Israel and the Islamic Republic. The following day (June 23) Trump managed to broker a ceasefire deal between the Asian rivals.

Speaking on the matter, Additional Director General of Police (Traffic), Dayal Gangwar, highlighted the significance of this technology in maintaining order and safety of devotees coming from cities, including Bhubaneswar and Konark. Gangwar informed that the AI-powered CCTV cameras are playing a crucial role in assisting with surveillance and security. "Yesterday, devotees followed the traffic restrictions and traffic regulation plan, and the same will remain in place today. We request everyone to cooperate with us in this... The arrangements made yesterday for devotees coming from Bhubaneswar and Konark will remain the same today... We request everyone to adhere to our restrictions... The AI system is greatly assisting us.", ADG Traffic Dayal Gangwar told ANI on Saturday. A sea of devotees gathered in Puri on Friday to witness the world-famous Jagannath Rath Yatra, as Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, embarked on the ceremonial journey from the Shri Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple. All rituals related to the Rath Yatra are being conducted as per schedule amid heightened security arrangements, with coordinated efforts from multiple security forces and district authorities. Speaking to ANI about the arrangements, Puri District Magistrate Siddharth Swain said, "...The yatra route is full of devotees. All rituals related to the Rath Yatra will be conducted on time. Police have been deployed since last night. This time, NDRF has also been deployed... Yesterday, we removed illegal 6-7 drones. Flying of drones over Shri Jagannath Temple and the Gundicha temple is not allowed." A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been stationed in Puri as a precautionary measure due to the high footfall and scale of the event. NDRF Deputy Commandant Naveen Rana said, "Our personnel are trained to handle all situations, including any medical emergency, structure collapse or any other. We had conducted four mock drills along with the District Administration here." The yatra drew lakhs of devotees, many of whom had travelled from different parts of the country and abroad to to witness the grand chariots of the three deities, Lord Jagannath, his brother Lord Balabhadra, and sister goddess Subhadra, at the Gundicha temple, where the deities reside for a week and then return to Jagannath temple. Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi extended a heartfelt welcome to devotees on the occasion of the annual Rath Yatra, urging them to participate with utmost faith and his message, CM Majhi said, "Join the Rath Yatra with faith and devotion, witness the divine glimpse of Mahaprabhu atop the chariot, and receive His blessings."

Thousands of mourners lined the streets of downtown Tehran on Saturday (June 28, 2025) for the funeral of the head of the Revolutionary Guard and other top commanders and nuclear scientists killed during a 12-day war with Israel. The caskets of Guard's chief Gen. Hossein Salami, the head of the Guard's ballistic missile programme, Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh and others were driven on trucks along the capital's Azadi Street as people in the crowds chanted: 'Death to America' and 'Death to Israel.' Salami and Hajizadeh were both killed on the first day of the war, June 13, 2025, as Israel launched a war it said meant to destroy Iran's nuclear programme, specifically targeting military commanders, scientists and nuclear facilities. There was no immediate sign of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the state broadcast of the funeral. Mr. Ali Khamenei, who has not made a public appearance since before the outbreak of the war, has in past funerals held prayers for fallen commanders over their caskets before the open ceremonies, later aired on state television.
