Brad Pitt's F1 Film Zooms Past Rs 50 Crore-Mark In India
F1 features Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a fictional Formula One driver from New York who retired from racing after a serious crash. F1 (Formula One) has been driving forward with steady speed ever since it hit Indian theatres, and now, the film has officially crossed the Rs 50 crore milestone at the domestic box office. The Brad Pitt -led racing drama is holding strong in its second week. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film is backed by producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton. According to data from the film earned Rs 2.50 crore on day 11 of its run in India. With this, its total box office collection has reached Rs 50.70 crore. The film opened with Rs 5.50 crore on its first day. Over its opening weekend, F1 collected Rs 21.4 crore despite facing box office competition from local releases such as Maa and Kannappa. The film was released in India on June 27 and had access to premium formats such as IMAX screens during its initial days. But F1 is now expected to lose those IMAX screens to Superman, which is releasing this Friday. With Superman expected to retain those screens for at least the next couple of weeks, F1 may see a dip in collections from premium formats. Despite that, industry estimates suggest that the film could finish its Indian theatrical run with around Rs 70 crore in total earnings. Globally, the film is also seeing strong numbers. Within ten days of its release, F1 has grossed $293 million at the worldwide box office. This makes it the highest-grossing film produced by Apple to date. It has surpassed the global earnings of Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon ($158 million) and Ridley Scott's Napoleon ($221 million), as reported by Variety. The film features Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a once-celebrated Formula One driver from New York who retired from racing after a serious crash. In the years that follow, he steps away from the sport and tries to find a new path while dealing with the aftershocks of his career-ending incident. But his life takes another turn when Ruben Cervantes, played by Javier Bardem, re-enters his life. Ruben is a friend and former teammate who convinces Sonny to return to Formula One not as a driver but as a mentor and coach. Sonny is tasked with training Joshua Pierce, a young and upcoming racer played by Damson Idris. Apart from above mentioned actors, the film stars Tobias Menzies and Kerry Condon in key roles. It also includes special appearances by real-life Formula One drivers such as Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Sergio Perez, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, among others. First Published:
