Five big things to watch this weekend – from the Fifa Club World Cup to Banyana's Wafcon title defence
The CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Morocco with 12 nations competing. Defending champions Banyana Banyana prepare to start their title defence against Ghana on Monday.
SA football sees PSL promotion play-offs reaching semifinal stage with four provincial teams competing, while Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates head to Europe for pre-season training camps.
The four Fifa Club World Cup semi-finalists will be decided this weekend.
Real Madrid is in search of a record-extending sixth Fifa Club World Cup title, while European champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is also still in the competition.
But for most Africans, the focus will be on the CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) in Morocco.
The 12-nation tournament will start on Saturday and end on 26 July.
Five events to look out for this weekend:
Wafcon
Host nation Morocco will get the tournament under way against Zambia in a Group A clash at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat in the only game on the opening day on Saturday.
On Sunday, Senegal will play the Democratic Republic of Congo at the Stade El Bachir in Mohammédia, followed by Nigeria against Tunisia at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
Botswana will round off Sunday's action against Algeria at Casablanca's Père Jégo Stadium.
Defending champions Banyana Banyana will start the defence of their Wafcon title against Ghana at the Honor Stadium in Oujda on Monday.
Banyana, who won their maiden continental title in July 2022, will play against Tanzania on Friday and then against Mali next Monday.
Fifa Club World Cup quarterfinals
After three weeks of intense action, the tournament has reached the quarterfinal stages.
The action will kick off on Friday in Florida with Brazilian club Fluminense taking on Saudi club Al-Hilal at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
Fluminense and Al-Hilal are yet to win the competition, which featured 32 teams for the first time.
Palmeiras, the second Brazilian side left in the competition, will play 2022 champions Chelsea of England at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Palmeiras are also yet to win this tournament.
French club PSG will face German giants Bayern Munich at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday night.
Bayern won their first Club World Cup title in 2014 and snatched it again in 2020.
Fresh from winning the Uefa Champions League title in late May, PSG are chasing their first Club World Cup title on their first attempt.
Also on Saturday night, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund will battle at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
PSL promotion up for grabs
After the Eastern Cape and Limpopo were disqualified, the Safa ABC Motsepe League national play-offs in Pretoria continued with seven provinces and it's now in semi-final stage.
Thames FC (North West), Gomora United (Gauteng), Zizwe United (Western Cape) and The Bees (Mpumalanga) will play in the semis.
The draw for the semis was scheduled to take place on day four of the mini-league play-offs on Friday.
The two finalists and the team that wins the third-place play-off will be promoted to the PSL's second-tier Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates jet out of the country
Chiefs will prepare for the new season with a pre-season training camp in the Netherlands.
Amakhosi arrived in the western European country on Friday.
As part of the tour, Amakhosi will play five friendly matches against top-tier sides from the Dutch league. Chiefs said four of the matches will be open to the public, with one being held behind closed doors.
Chiefs are set to return on 19 July. They will play Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko in the second edition of the Toyota Cup in Bloemfontein on 26 July.
Their Soweto rivals, Pirates, will be in southwestern Europe.
The Buccaneers are in Spain for the second successive season for their pre-season training camp from 11 July to 19 July.
Pirates will play four friendly matches against Pafos FC from Cyprus and English second-division side Bolton Wanderers.

PSG is a -155 favorite to advance and has +120 odds to win the match in regulation. FIFA Club World Cup: Bayern vs. PSG betting preview It's really hard to say we've learned anything new about these two teams at the FIFA Club World Cup. We knew that PSG and Bayern were among the best clubs in the world coming into the competition, and nothing has really changed. They both had some terrific performances in their first four matches in the States, and they both had a slip-up against a big underdog. Those kinds of results are to be expected in a tournament like this, so there was no real cause for concern, especially since both teams responded well in their following match. There's a ton of offensive talent on display in this match, but it's the defensive side of the ball that is notable for these two clubs in this tournament. Harry Kane of Bayern Munich celebrates a goal in the FIFA Club World Cup. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters PSG's defense has been stupendous through the first four matches of the competition, allowing just one goal and 2.2 expected goals in four matches. Those are the best marks in the 32-team field. Bayern's defense hasn't been as dominant, but they're not far off. The Bavarians have conceded four goals and 3.0 xG in four matches. Get the lowdown on the Best USA Sports Betting Sites and Apps FIFA Club World Cup: Bayern vs. PSG pick There is very little that separates these two teams in this competition. Bayern and PSG both have game-breakers up front, they're in terrific form on defense and they are well-organized outfits. The Under 2.5 goals feels like the best bet on the board, but Bayern is also worth a play as a +200 underdog on the three-way moneyline in what is a coin flip.
