Nets rookies highlights from 2025 NBA Las Vegas Summer League

USA Todaya day ago
The Brooklyn Nets came away from the 2025 NBA Las Vegas Summer League with a disappointing 1-4 record as they were trying to incorporate four of the five rookies they drafted. Brooklyn was able to see what Egor Demin, Nolan Traore, Ben Saraf, and Danny Wolf had to offer against some NBA competition and the takeaways varied depending on the player.
For any Nets fans that weren't able to watch the summer league or just want to reminder of what most of the rookies did in Las Vegas, Brooklyn's content team posted a highlight reel on its YouTube channel. While the Nets' best player in the summer league was undoubtedly center Drew Timme, each of the four rookies that were able to play showed why they were drafted in the first place.
Demin, the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, averaged 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 40.7% from the field and 43.5% from three-point land. Demin came into the summer league with questions regarding his long-range shooting ability and his effectiveness off the ball, but he showed that those concerns aren't as major as they seemed during the pre-Draft process.
Traore, the 19th overall pick, showcased his trademark speed with the basketball throughout his time in Las Vegas, even though his efficiency left plenty to be desired from one of the players vying for point guard minutes. Traore 7.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per contest while shooting 30.4% from the floor and 14.3% from deep as he tried to share the ball-handling duties with his other three fellow rookies.
Saraf, the 26th overall pick, got his first taste of NBA action after coming over from playing overseas and he averaged 7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 30.4% from the field and 53.8% from the free-throw line.
Wolf, the 27th overall pick, had some impressive moments during his time in the summer league, averaging 10.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per contest while shooting 39.1% from the floor and 40.0% from behind the three-point line.

Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo still 'evaluating future' amidst trade rumors

Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo still 'evaluating future' amidst trade rumors originally appeared on The Sporting News English rock band The Clash wrote a massively big single in the year 1981, titled, "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" No other song could better describe the situation that concerns Milwaukee Bucks star power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and his future in the NBA. The two-time MVP has been at the center of trade talks ever since the Bucks faced an early playoff exit at the hands of the Indiana Pacers in five games in the very first round, which saw Antetokounmpo average 33 points, after finishing 48-34 in the regular season. Giannis himself was yet again in the MVP conversation after averaging 30.4 points per game for the second straight season along with 11.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists in 67 games played. And according to an official report by senior NBA insider Shams Charania, there is still no official word on the next move in "The Greek Freak's" future Hall of Fame career. Charania reported that Giannis was continuing to evaluate the future of his career, and that "nothing was set in stone" regarding the star big man staying or leaving Milwaukee. Antetokounmpo has shown signs that he could potentially find a new team, such as unfollowing the team on Instagram especially shortly after the team released star guard Damian Lillard. We don't know what Giannis is going to do, but just like that Clash song from the 80s sings, if Giannis goes, there will be trouble in Milwaukee.

What the De'Aaron Fox deal means for Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle

De'Aaron Fox has reportedly signed a four-year, $229 million maximum contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs. So what comes next for this team? Fox is now under contract with the Spurs until 2029-30 and will collect an average annual value of more than $57 million per season. In a vacuum, the deal makes sense for San Antonio. Several of the players in their young core are still a few years away from requiring a similarly major pay day, so the franchise could afford to retain Fox. If the Spurs had not given this deal to Fox, they would have risked losing him as an unrestricted free agent next summer. Instead, they have shown they are committed to their next chapter of winning around Victor Wembanyama rather than rebuilding. But there is still a major question about whether Fox or someone else is the point guard of the future in San Antonio. They selected Dylan Harper with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and also have 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year winner Stephon Castle on their roster. If they continue on the right development path, they project as the likely backcourt of the future for the Spurs. Fox, however, is far more of a "win-now" caliber player than either of his younger teammates. They now have the next three seasons to decide the right combination of guards to complement Wembanyama, the obvious face of the franchise. From a salary perspective, they won't have much to worry about until then with no other major contracts interfering on the books. From a basketball perspective, though, it gets more interesting. For what it is worth, per PBPStats: The Spurs outscored opponents by 3.07 points per 100 possessions in the 740 minutes when Wembanyama played with Castle but not Fox last season. There was a less significant sample size to evaluate when Wembanyama played with Fox but not Castle in 2024-25. But notably, the Spurs were outscored by 12.99 points per 100 in the 237 minutes in which Fox and Castle shared the court. We don't know how the group will fare with Harper in the mix as well, but they will have plenty of time to experiment with that this season. Fortunately for the Spurs, neither Castle nor Harper is undersized, so it is entirely possible that it could work out that all three could play together. Perhaps by the end of Fox's extension, it is incredibly obvious that the right mix for San Antonio involves involves Harper and Castle as their starting one and two. By then, maybe they will have to trade Fox and clear up that log jam. Because his salary is so large, it might feel difficult for the Spurs to move him at that price tag. But it may have value for value-matching purposes if, by then, San Antonio is looking to potentially add a star through the trade market. At the end of the day, it seems the front office believes that Fox puts the team in the best position to win now. The good news is that because Harper and Castle are still a rookie and sophomore, respectively, they have time until it will become too expensive to keep all three. Until then, the Spurs are simply building a team with as much talent as possible and letting it develop naturally. It would feel unfair to criticize them for that, especially with a superstar like Wembanyama in the mix. Serge Ibaka thinks OKC Thunder have chance to become NBA dynasty

Cheering from afar, Serge Ibaka was ecstatic to see Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren accomplish what he couldn't. The Oklahoma City Thunder star trio brought home an NBA championship after a historically dominant season. After finishing painfully close to basketball nirvana, Thunder fans finally had the chance to enjoy the Larry O'Brien trophy. It was a moment that had been building up for nearly two decades. What Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Ibaka couldn't do, Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams and Holmgren did. After Ibaka reminisced on how the Durant and Westbrook dynamic duo could've brought home a couple of NBA championships, the two-time block champion believes that the Thunder are set up to compete and possibly win more titles. He recently talked to TMZ Sports to offer his opinions. "They have a lot of potential. The game now is very different. The game has changed," Ibaka said. "This generation, I think they have the chance to be one of the best. But it's always easy to say but hard to do it. On paper, they have a chance. They can do it." Ibaka joins the consensus opinion. The Thunder enter the 2025-26 season as a popular title pick. They could be a rare repeat champion. After they signed Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams and Holmgren to contract extensions this summer, expect them to remain in the championship conversations for the foreseeable future. "As an athlete, something I've learned is you can't really say numbers like that. There can be many things happen on your way there. But on paper, they have a chance to win three," Ibaka said. "They're young. They're going to keep getting better and better. Sam always do a great job at putting a team together. Right now, they're confident. It's their moment." It's always nice to hear from a former Thunder great. While Ibaka couldn't help win a championship in OKC, fans quickly fell in love with the Thunder's first iteration. Despite several playoff shortcomings, they'll always have a soft spot in the heart of OKC fans as they welcomed the NBA franchise in 2008.
