Egypt-Morocco Investment Forum Kicks Off in Cairo to Boost Trade Relations

Morocco World05-05-2025
Rabat — Morocco and Egypt seem to be on track towards boosting their trade relations as the two countries held a significant Egypt-Morocco Investment and Trade Forum on Sunday in Cairo.
The gathering brought together officials, economic players, and business leaders from Morocco and Egypt under the theme 'A Broad Economic Partnership.'
The forum is part of the visit of a Moroccan economic delegation to Egypt from the 3rd to the 5th of this month, led by Morocco's Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Omar Hejira.
The General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), in coordination with the State Secretariat for Foreign Trade, initiated the mission with the aim to strengthen the presence of Moroccan products in the Egyptian market. This includes both increasing avenues for exporters from both countries as well as creating investment opportunities.
The delegation has set an ambitious target of reaching $500 million in Moroccan exports to Egypt by 2026.
Meanwhile, the forum offers a chance to establish productive partnerships between the economies of both countries.
Business leaders and Moroccan companies attended the event from various sectors, including agriculture, food and automotive industries, electricity, electronics, textiles, seafood products, energy and renewable energies, pharmaceuticals, medical and paramedical products, cosmetics, and construction.
Both Hejira and the Egyptian Minister of Investment and Trade Hassan El Khatib co-chaired the forum, reflecting a shared commitment to explore significant potential for cooperation and complementarity between the two countries.
The economic meeting sets the tone for a further deeper cooperation, not only between Morocco and Egypt, but potentially to develop partnerships with other African countries.
This Moroccan economic mission to Cairo follows El Khatib's visit to Morocco on February 27, when he met with Moroccan officials.
During El Khatib's visit, high-level officials met to agree on joining efforts to facilitate trade between Morocco and Egypt, one of them being the creation of the Egyptian 'Fast Track' system.
The newfound system aims to increase the volume of Moroccan exports to Egypt — particularly in the automotive sector — and promote trade partnerships and business networks between private sector players from both countries.

Morocco, Niger Strengthen Transport Cooperation

Rabat — Morocco and Niger appear to be taking bold steps towards securing strong cooperation in the transportation sector. Morocco's Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh held talks today with Niger's Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Colonel-Major Abdourahamane Amadou. The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in transport and logistics, exploring cooperation opportunities in railway, air, and road transport sectors. Both parties recalled the North African country's accumulated experience in these strategic areas. Following the meeting, Kayouh expressed Morocco's commitment to establishing a 'win-win' partnership with Niger in transport. He outlined areas including training, expertise transfer, and technical support. The Moroccan minister showcased his country's experience in road safety, railway network development, and airport infrastructure modernization. He stressed Morocco's dedication to sharing its expertise with Niger, particularly through advanced technical training programs for Nigerien students. Kayouh also recalled the Atlantic Initiative launched by King Mohammed VI, which aims to connect Sahel countries, including Niger, to the Atlantic coast. The initiative is set to help these landlocked nations access sea routes and boost their commercial, industrial, and agricultural exchanges. The Nigerien minister, who leads a significant delegation on a working visit to Morocco, expressed his admiration for Morocco's transport sector achievements. He said his visit aims to learn from Morocco's best practices in governance, regulation, and infrastructure development. Amadou shared his country's desire to benefit from Moroccan expertise in creating a national airline, developing railway networks, and strengthening road safety. He explained that Niger wants to build an integrated and efficient transport network to overcome challenges related to being landlocked. The Nigerien official also praised Morocco's consistent support for Niger's development and expressed his country's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through active African solidarity and sustainable partnership. The meeting represents another step in Morocco's growing engagement with African partners, particularly in sharing technical expertise and infrastructure development knowledge with fellow African nations. Morocco Ranks Near Bottom in Global Work-Life Balance Index

Rabat — Morocco has once again scored poorly in terms of work-life balance index and ranked 51st out of 60 countries in the 2025 report, revealing a significant gap between long working hours and living standards in the country. A report released yesterday by Remote, a platform specializing in remote employment, indicated employees in Morocco work for an average of 44 hours per week. The working hours rate in the North African country marks one of the highest rates globally, as they surpass countries like Norway (32.6 hours) and Argentina (37 hours). Meanwhile, the report noted that this extensive effort by Moroccan employees is not fairly compensated with higher wages. The minimum daily wage in the country stands at just $12, compared to $18 per hour in Australia. In terms of paid annual leave, the report said that Morocco offers only 25 days and 12 weeks of maternity leave, figures that fall short of Northern European standards. Morocco's health insurance system also faces coverage limitations, with sick leave compensation below 60% of basic salary, according to the report. The country also scored poorly on quality of life indicators, recording a happiness index of 4.62 out of 10 and a safety index of 2.05 out of 10. The scores reflect deep ongoing social and economic challenges facing Morocco in providing citizens with good quality of life. The reports' results place the North African kingdom far behind countries like New Zealand, which topped the rankings with 86.87 points. The findings reflect a critical gap between worker effort and compensation in Morocco, hence pointing to systemic issues that require the government's comprehensive policy responses to enhance worker welfare and productivity. The report, covering 60 countries, signals the urgent need for deep reforms in Morocco's labor market, changes that would improve work-life balance and strengthen social protection for workers across various economic sectors. Morocco Participates at 20th African Ministerial Conference on Environment in Nairobi

The 20th African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN-20) kicked off on Wednesday at the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, with Morocco's participation. The Kingdom is represented at the conference, held under the theme 'Four decades of environmental action in Africa: reflecting on the past and imagining the future', through a delegation led by Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali. Morocco's participation in this 20th session reflects its firm commitment to actively contribute to defining and implementing ambitious African environmental policies, in line with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in favor of a sustainable future for Africa and for future generations. The session, held until July 18, is a key opportunity to take stock of 40 years of regional environmental cooperation. It offers African environment ministers the opportunity to examine emerging challenges, identify opportunities for continent-wide action, and explore ways of cooperating to bring Africa's priorities to the global stage. In addition, ministers and experts will review progress made in implementing the decisions adopted at the 18th and 19th ordinary and 10th extraordinary sessions of the AMCEN, as well as identify Africa's environmental priorities for the 2025-2027 period. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the AMCEN, a special high-level session will be held on July 18, with the participation of high-level figures from Africa and worldwide, to examine environmental sustainability on the continent. The special session will also result in the adoption of a declaration on the 40 year achievements of AMCEN and recommendations for meeting Africa's environmental challenges in the future.
