Joe Burrow dubbed the Broncos' Achilles' heel by PFF

USA Today21-06-2025

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is one of the NFL's best quarterbacks and a premier offensive player. Burrow, known for his football intelligence and accuracy, completed 70.6 percent of his passes for nearly 5,000 yards and 43 touchdowns in 2024. He out-dueled Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix in their matchup this past year, throwing for 412 yards and three touchdowns, while notching a 93.6 Pro Football Focus grade.
This is why PFF stated that Burrow is the Achilles' heel for the Broncos. Although he only played them twice in his five-year career, his play against them caused PFF writer Dalton Wasserman to state that Burrow is the player the Broncos should study extra tape for.
'Burrow has played Denver twice in his career, and he did well in both outings," Wasserman wrote for PFF. "The first matchup was a low-scoring affair in which Burrow recorded a solid 78.8 PFF overall grade. The second game was one of the best contests of the 2024 season. The Bengals were victorious as Burrow outdueled Bo Nix to the tune of 412 passing yards, three touchdowns and a 93.6 PFF overall grade that currently stands as the best single-game grade of Burrow's career.'
The Broncos have the opportunity in Week 4 to prove Wasserman and PFF wrong, as they get a chance to face Burrow and the Bengals at home on Monday Night Football (view the full schedule).

'Elite' Buccaneers WR Continues Career Trend Despite Age

'Elite' Buccaneers WR Continues Career Trend Despite Age originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The drafting of former Texas A&M Aggies wideout Mike Evans pretty much sums up Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht's time with the team. Advertisement Evans was Licht's first-ever draft pick, and things have worked out well for both ever since. Evans will turn 32 years old in August, just before the 2025 season begins, as he enters the final season of his two-year, $41 million deal. The former Aggie made NFL history last season, as Ryan Smith of Pro Football Focus wrote, indicating that his age hasn't held him back. "Evans made history last season, tying Jerry Rice for the most consecutive seasons topping 1,000 receiving yards (11) despite missing time with a hamstring injury," Smith wrote. "He was elite in Tampa Bay's wild-card playoff loss to the Commanders (91.8 overall grade), dominating longtime rival Marshon Lattimore. Advertisement "He caught all six targets thrown his way in the matchup for 84 yards and a touchdown while also drawing a defensive pass interference penalty." Evans will enter his 12th season in the league and shows no signs of slowing down. He'll be due for another payday after next year, at the age of 32. During his age-30 season in 2023, Evans led the league with 13 touchdown receptions. He'll have former Ohio State Buckeyes standout pass catcher Emeka Egbuka alongside in 2024, along with second-year receiver Jalen McMillan, as that pair represents the future of the Bucs. But don't kick Evans to the rocking chair of retirement just yet. It still looks like he's got a lot of football left in him. Advertisement But don't tell Father Time. Urban Meyer thinks former Ohio State player would have made Hall of Fame if not for injury

Sometimes we are robbed of the full career of an elite athlete because of injury or other unfortunate events. One such case would be former Ohio State linebacker Ryan Shazier. He was an All-American in Columbus for his ability to run, cover in space, and get to the ball with purpose. He was one of the most athletic linebackers that were a part of a new breed that could kind of do it all. As an OSU linebacker, Shazier was recognized as a first-team All-American in 2013 before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft. He became a star playmaker in Pittsburgh, making the Pro-Bowl in 2016 and 2017 with a seemingly bright, long, and productive career ahead of him. However, on Dec. 4, 2017, Shazier suffered a spinal cord injury in a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He never fully recovered enough to continue his football playing career and announced his retirement on Sept. 9, 2020. Count former Ohio State football head coach Urban Meyer as a believer in the body of work Shazier would have put up had he not been injured. In an "X" (formerly Twitter) post from @RyanDayRuinedMe, Blake claimed that Shazier would have been "otw to Canton if he never went down." Meyer was quick to share the claim with two simple words: "No doubt!" And Meyer should know. He's seen his fair share of elite athletes at the highest level of big-time college football and saw Shazier and what he could do on a football field for a couple of years in Columbus. We agree. Shazier was on his way to becoming one of the most feared and athletic linebackers in the NFL and could have very well put together one whale of a career. What's interesting about Shazier landing in Columbus to play for Ohio State is that he originally committed to play at Florida under Urban Meyer, but then rescinded when Meyer retired and flipped to Jim Tressel and Ohio State. We then know that Meyer took over for Tressel eventually, where he was still able to play for the three-time national championship-winning coach. Steelers' Cameron Heyward Showing No Signs of Slowing Down

Steelers' Cameron Heyward Showing No Signs of Slowing Down originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Cameron Heyward has been with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a lengthy 14 seasons. But despite his advancing age, he is still showing no signs that it is having any effect on him. Advertisement In a recent article by PFF's Ryan Smith, he puts together a list of 10 NFL veterans who are still competing at a very high level, and one of the players he mentions is the star defensive lineman for the AFC North team. "Heyward is yet another player on this list who is a lock for the Hall of Fame, trailing only Chris Jones in PFF overall grade among interior defenders last season," Smith wrote. "The five-time All-Pro is a big reason why the Steelers top PFF's list of the best defensive lines in the NFL heading into the 2025 season. His presence will be especially valuable for Derrick Harmon, the Steelers' first-round pick in this year's draft." Heyward recently turned 36 years old, but he has been defying Father Time over the past several seasons. In 2024, the star defensive lineman racked up eight sacks, 71 total tackles, and 20 quarterback hits. He was also able to display his ability to bat down passes at the line with 11 pass deflections this past season. Advertisement The Steelers have made the playoffs each of the last two seasons, so Heyward and the rest of the team's defense will be looking to help lead the team back to the postseason for the third season in a row.
