The Now Playing, Expressive captions, and Android System Intelligence pages now feature updated graphics, and the At a Glance page has a new feature description. Interestingly, the toggle design on these new settings pages is inconsistent. On a few pages, the toggles show a check mark when the feature is enabled and a cross when it's turned off, while on others, it's the same as before.

Google has also renamed the 'Show word duration effect' option on the Expressive captions page to 'Lengthen words' and included an updated description that more clearly explains its function.
Unlike the Material 3 Expressive updates for the Google Keep, Gmail, Wallet, and Google Phone apps, these refreshed settings pages are currently only available on Pixel devices running the latest Android 16 QPR1 beta release. Users not on the beta release will have to wait until Android 16 QPR1 hits the stable channel to receive these changes. Google is expected to ship the update for its Pixel lineup in September, so it might be a while before these new settings pages appear on your device.

Sam Altman Feels ‘Politically Homeless' As Frenemy Musk Proposes Third Party

Sam Altman is grappling with his political alignment. The 40-year-old CEO of OpenAI, like many of his fellow tech executives in recent years, has expressed that he does not feel at home in the Democratic Party or the Republican Party. In an extended post on X, Altman lamented the fact that he's now 'politically homeless' and yearns for a technocratic utopia—something his once friend and current rival Elon Musk has also been calling for with his push to form a third party. Hmm…interesting timing, yeah? Altman, who claimed in his post that he's 'not big on identities,' mapped his political evolution over the last couple decades—or rather, how political parties have evolved to move away from him. 'The world should get richer every year through science and technology, but everyone has to be in the 'up elevator,'' he wrote. He also articulated his beliefs that free markets are more efficient than government, that innovation and entrepreneurship are important, and that education is key to America maintaining its edge. Pretty traditional libertarian fare, frankly. 'I believed this when I was 20, when I was 30, and now I am 40 and still believe it. The Democratic party seemed reasonably aligned with it when I was 20, losing the plot when I was 30, and completely to have moved somewhere else at this point. So now I am politically homeless. But that's fine; I care much, much more about being American than any political party,' Altman wrote. I'm not big on identities, but I am extremely proud to be American. This is true every day, but especially today—I firmly believe this is the greatest country ever on Earth. The American miracle stands alone in world history. I believe in techno-capitalism. We should encourage… — Sam Altman (@sama) July 4, 2025Altman, a billionaire, said that he's more interested in candidates who want to 'make everyone have the stuff billionaires have instead of how they are going to eliminate billionaires.' And it's clear that he thinks the route to that outcome is techno-capitalism, an ideology that he explicitly endorses in the post. 'We should encourage people to make tons of money and then also find ways to widely distribute wealth and share the compounding magic of capitalism.' As Altman seeks a home for his capitalist utopia, a vision where markets purportedly redistribute wealth rather than allowing a select few like Altman to hoard it (he does know he can just give his away if he wants, right?), his former OpenAI co-founder Elon Musk has returned to dabbling with the formation of a third party. This push is spurred by Musk's ongoing opposition to President Donald Trump's 'One Big, Beautiful Bill,' which he argues will add to the deficit. 'Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system! Should we create the America Party?' Musk asked on X. He's been kicking around this 'America Party' idea for about a month now, claiming that it will represent the '80 percent in the middle' whom he believes are currently without sufficient representation from Republicans or Democrats. The origin of that 80% figure is unclear. A Pew Research poll, for example, found that 25% of people say neither party represents them, 37% wished there were more political parties to choose from, and 26% believed more parties would help solve the country's problems. Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system! Should we create the America Party? — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 4, 2025It's also worth noting that while Musk claims his 'America Party' would represent a majority of people, he hasn't really issued any policy positions or founding principles for the party. Presumably, it'd have a fair amount of overlap with Altman's general libertarian-leaning beliefs, which often framed as 'common sense' ideologies. According to Politico, fellow tech bro Andrew Yang has reached out to Musk to push a third-party collaboration, potentially using his 'non-partisan' Forward Party as a model. Frankly, you'd be hard pressed to find a single issue that 80% of Americans all agree on, let alone enough of them to serve as the foundation of a political party. But having a party of their own would certainly make it more straightforward for the Musks and Altmans of the world to push their preferred interests. Of course, they'd have to settle their own disagreements first.

If You Buy Amazon Stock With $50,000 Today, Will You Be a Millionaire in a Decade?

Amazon has a strong presence in e-commerce, digital advertising, and cloud computing and is using AI across all three business segments. Wall Street estimates Amazon's earnings will increase at 10% annually through 2026, but analysts have consistently underestimated the company. In the last decade, only five companies currently in the S&P 500 saw sufficient share-price appreciation to turn a $50,000 investment into $1 million. 10 stocks we like better than Amazon › Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) stock returned 910% during the last decade, growing at a pace that would have turned $50,000 into more than $500,000. Wall Street remains overwhelmingly bullish on the company. Among 71 analysts, 97% have a buy rating on the stock, and the median 12-month target price of $240 per share implies 9% upside from its current share price of $220. Can Amazon stock turn $50,000 into $1 million in the next 10 years? Amazon has a strong position in three large industries -- e-commerce, digital advertising, and cloud computing. The company is also leaning on artificial intelligence (AI) across all three business units to accelerate revenue growth and widen profit margins, as detailed below: E-commerce: Amazon runs the largest e-commerce marketplace in the world, in terms of revenue, and the most popular, in terms of traffic. Even more impressive, the company is still gaining share. Amazon has built more than 1,000 generative AI applications to make its retail business more efficient, including tools to improve inventory placement, demand forecasting, and developer productivity. It's also using generative AI to let human workers engage warehouse robots in natural language. Digital advertising: Amazon has as a distinct advantage in advertising not only because it draws so many shoppers to its marketplace, but also because it has troves of consumer data to target advertising. That advantage has helped it become the third-largest ad tech company in the world. Amazon has added AI tools that help brands plan and optimize ad campaigns, as well as generative AI tools that let brands create images and videos. Cloud computing: Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the largest public cloud platform in terms of infrastructure and platform spending. That means the company is already well-positioned to monetize demand for AI infrastructure, but AWS has further cemented its status as a go-to cloud services provider by designing custom chips for AI training and inference. The company says those chips deliver better price performance than leading graphics processing units (GPUs). Through 2030, retail e-commerce sales are forecast to increase at 11% annually, ad tech spending is projected to increase at 14% annually, and cloud computing sales are expected to increase at 20.4% annually, according to Grand View Research. That means Amazon can achieve double-digit annual revenue growth through the end of the decade if it merely maintains its market share in those industries. Amazon would have to increase 20 times in value (i.e., a 1,900% return) to turn $50,000 into $1 million. That is theoretically possible over a decade, but such performance is exceedingly rare. Only five companies in the S&P 500 achieved 20-fold returns during the last 10 years, as listed below: Nvidia: +29,950% Advanced Micro Devices: +5,520% Axon Enterprise: +2,230% Texas Pacific Land: +2,070% Fair Isaac: +1,910% I doubt Amazon shares will advance 1,900% over the next decade. It's already a $2.3 trillion company, and multiplying its current market capitalization by 20 would bring its valuation to $46 trillion. That's nearly what the entire S&P 500 is worth today. It seems unlikely Amazon alone will be worth that much in 10 years. However, the stock is still a smart long-term investment. Some Wall Street analysts have lowered their forward earnings forecasts based on the idea that tariffs will hurt sales or margins. The consensus currently says Amazon's adjusted earnings will increase at 10% annually through 2026. That makes the current valuation of 36 times earnings look expensive, but I think Wall Street is too pessimistic. Amazon beat the consensus by an average of 22% over the last six quarters, and I think the company will continue to top expectations due to its strength in three growing markets and its capacity for innovation in adjacent areas. For instance, Amazon is reportedly preparing to test humanoid robots for package delivery, and its autonomous driving subsidiary Zoox is set to launch robotaxis in at least one U.S. city this year.
