Fahmi: Hawana aid has helped 405 media practitioners
Communication Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil (pic), who disclosed this, said more media practitioners will receive aid with the Hawana 2025 celebration scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
He said media practitioners who previously received assistance will also get aid.
'If there is anyone we need to reach out to and provide additional assistance for, I will ask that this matter be looked into,' he told reporters after presenting the Tabung Kasih@Hawana contribution to New Straits Times photo editor Ikhwan Munir, 50, who is undergoing treatment for colorectal cancer at Putrajaya Hospital yesterday, Bernama reported.
Also present were Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Media Prima Group managing editor Jasbant Singh.
The fund, an initiative of the Communications Ministry, is managed by Bernama.
Fahmi said the national news agency would continue to monitor the needs of Ikhwan, who has two children aged seven and 23.
'Ikhwan has been battling health issues over the past few weeks, so his wife is unable to work. Bernama will continue to monitor to see if we need to provide further help to him,' he added.
The minister said he also took the opportunity during his visit to seek feedback from the hospital management on telecommunication coverage and Internet access at the health facility.
'They are satisfied, though they did say there is a minor issue with one of the telcos at the new wing. I have asked this telco to help optimise their services,' said Fahmi.

HTAN Additional Block Nearing Completion, Ready By February 2026
KUALA PILAH, July 14 (Bernama) -- The construction project for the additional block at Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital (HTAN) here, previously classified as a sick project, is now showing encouraging progress with more than 90 per cent completed and is expected to be fully completed by February next year. Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Health member, Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan said the project, which began in 2021 and was originally scheduled for completion in August 2024, experienced some delays due to labour shortages during the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said the project, covering an area of 1.7 hectares with an initial contract cost of RM139.35 million, now stands at approximately RM153 million under the current contract, with a work progress of 93.93 per cent.

KPWKM Committed To Raising HPV Screening Awareness Among Orang Asli
GENERAL TANJONG MALIM, July 14 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) is committed to increasing awareness among Orang Asli women about the importance of undergoing human papillomavirus (HPV) screening, to help prevent the risk of cervical cancer. Its Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the initiative aims to ensure that high-risk groups are not left behind in accessing early treatment and accurate health information. She said that KPWKM, through collaborations with the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) and the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), had already undertaken efforts on the ground, but emphasised that there remains a significant need to reach remote and hard-to-access areas. 'Outreach like this is crucial, especially when it comes to women's health and cervical cancer prevention. Many are still unaware of HPV screening, particularly those in rural areas and Orang Asli communities. 'We believe that, through a grassroots approach, more women can be reached and encouraged to undergo free screenings,' she said, when met at the 'Sentuhan Ilmu dan Khidmat Pakar', a Pos Tenau Technical and Community's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, held at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pos Tenau near Ulu Slim, here, today. The three-day programme, organised by Sultan Azlan Shah Polytechnic (PSAS), starting July 12, was in collaboration with the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (JPPKK), along with several government agencies and private companies. Noraini said that, in addition to raising awareness about the dangers of HPV, the programme also serves to bridge healthcare and educational gaps between urban and rural areas, in line with the government's MADANI agenda. 'Apart from health awareness, KPWKM also places emphasis on education, as many of the Orang Asli women we met, shared that they tend to marry soon after finishing school, unaware that lifelong learning opportunities are available through community colleges. 'Likewise, the One-Stop Social Support Centre (PSSS) initiative plays an important role in delivering social support services to the community, as it is mobile and can reach those in need wherever they are.

Malaysia To Host Medtec Sea 2025, ASEAN's Premier Medical Tech Conference
KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will host Medtec Southeast Asia 2025, the region's leading medical technology conference and exhibition, from July 16 to 18 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). The event, organised in conjunction with International Healthcare Week 2025 (IHW), is expected to bring together medical device regulators, manufacturers, innovators, and investors from across ASEAN to chart the region's future in the medical technology industry. Informa Markets regional portfolio director for Asean, Rungphech (Rose) Chitanuwat, who plays an influential role in shaping major trade exhibitions in Southeast Asia, said participants at IHW 2025 will have the unique advantage of exploring multiple healthcare sectors and attending 125 conference sessions tailored to diverse healthcare domains -- all under one roof. 'This integrated format eliminates the need to travel between separate events, allowing attendees to maximise their time and resources while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the latest market trends, innovative technologies and cutting-edge solutions,' she said in a statement to Bernama. Medtec Southeast Asia 2025 aims to position ASEAN as a major player in the global medical technology landscape by promoting cross-border collaboration, regulatory harmonisation and innovation. Meanwhile, MdDev Sdn Bhd, the conference partner, said this year's event is not just about networking but about advancing ASEAN's capabilities in medical technology to meet both regional and international healthcare demands. With the theme 'Driving Innovation & Manufacturing Excellence in the MedTech Ecosystem,' the event will focus on emerging areas such as medical device research and development, halal medical device certification, digital health solutions, and strategies for expanding market access across ASEAN and beyond. Participants will gain insights into transformative healthcare technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) integration, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) applications in medical devices, and the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). More than 40 sessions will be held over the three-day event, covering topics such as regulatory compliance, Industry 4.0 applications in medical device manufacturing, and strategies for market entry into ASEAN, the United States, Europe and other key regions.
