Bigg Boss Fame Sana Makbul Reveals Liver Cirrhosis Diagnosis, Know All About It
In a recent interview, Sana Makbul revealed that her autoimmune hepatitis has worsened to liver cirrhosis. Here's all that you need to know about this condition.
Actor and winner of Bigg Boss OTT 3, Sana Makbul, recently revealed that she has been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. The news left her fans shocked, and many took to social media to send her strength and prayers for her well-being. The actor was admitted to the hospital earlier this month when the situation worsened.
In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Sana Makbul talked about being diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. The actor said, 'I've been living with autoimmune hepatitis for a while now, but recently things got worse. My immune system started attacking my liver more aggressively, and I've now been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. But I'm trying to stay strong and taking one day at a time." Sana mentioned how she is trying to avoid a transplant and is focusing more on immunotherapy and recovery.
Autoimmune hepatitis is a chronic liver condition in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy liver cells, triggering inflammation. If left untreated, this ongoing inflammation can lead to serious complications such as liver fibrosis or cirrhosis, just like in Sana's case.
Cirrhosis represents the advanced stage of liver damage, where healthy tissue is gradually replaced by scar tissue. This scarring occurs as the liver attempts to repair itself, but ultimately hampers its ability to function properly. According to medical experts, cirrhosis is a progressive disease – initially, the body may compensate for reduced liver activity, often masking symptoms. However, as more scar tissue builds up, liver function deteriorates significantly, eventually leading to noticeable and potentially life-threatening symptoms.
What Are the Symptoms?
Autoimmune hepatitis often develops gradually, and symptoms may vary in intensity. While some people may remain asymptomatic for years, others experience noticeable signs. Common symptoms include:
Who Is at Risk of Autoimmune Hepatitis?
Autoimmune hepatitis can affect individuals of any age or background, but certain groups are more susceptible. Women, particularly between the ages of 15 and 40, are significantly more likely to develop the condition. A family history of autoimmune disorders can elevate the risk, as can the presence of other autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, celiac disease, or autoimmune thyroiditis.
Diagnosis: Autoimmune hepatitis is diagnosed using a combination of blood tests, imaging, and liver biopsy.
Treatment Options: The main aim of treatment is to calm the immune system, reduce inflammation in the liver, and stop the disease from progressing to cirrhosis. Doctors usually start with corticosteroids to control the immune response. Sometimes, other medicines called immunosuppressants are added to help reduce side effects and keep the disease under control. In very severe cases, where the liver is badly damaged and not responding to treatment, a liver transplant may be needed. In case of cirrhosis, like Sana, doctors recommend immunotherapy, regular monitoring, and a liver transplant in extreme cases.

Secret to cutting calories is hiding in your spice rack: Study spills the beans
Concerned about weight gain? According to a new study, the secret to naturally reducing your calorie intake might already be in your kitchen. Research led by Paige Cunningham at Penn State University found that adding hot peppers to your meals can naturally cut food intake by up to 18%. Also read | Love spicy Indian food? Endocrinologists reveal if having more chillies can help weight loss or slow it down Adding hot peppers to your food can help in reducing calorie intake.(Unsplash) The study suggests that spicy foods not only make meals more enjoyable but also help you eat less. This is thanks to capsaicin, the compound in hot peppers that creates a burning sensation on the tongue, encouraging people to feel satisfied and finish their meals sooner. The study authors selected 130 adults for the study and separated them into groups. Each group was given identical meals to consume with one key difference - some contained regular sweet paprika, while others used hot paprika that created a noticeable burning sensation. The researchers noticed that people who consumed the spicy version of the meal naturally started consuming less by taking smaller and slower bites of their food. They bodies, when confronted with the spice, naturally reacted and changed their consumption pattern, without any conscious efforts from their end. Also read | Is spicy food unhealthy? Dietitian says, not really A compound in hot peppers can slow down your food intake.(Unsplash) How spice can reduce your food intake When the body encounters capsaicin, it naturally slows down consumption speed, giving more time to process the mouthful. People having spicy food take small and less frequent bites, reducing their calorie intake. Eating slower helps in consuming fewer calories, thus fast tracking the weight loss journey. Spicy food helps in achieving this eating pattern without much conscious effort or behaviour modification. In the paper, the study authors noted, 'Properties of food can be strategically modified to influence oral processing behavior and slow eating, which in turn can reduce food and energy intake. Specifically, we show across different foods that increasing the oral burn of a meal by adding dried chili pepper not only influences oral processing, but that it also decreases consumption.' Telangana factory fire: Death toll from Sigachi pharma factory explosion rises to 42
Telangana factory fire: The death toll in the Sigachi Industries' pharma plant explosion in Sangareddy, Hyderabad, has risen to 42, according to a report by the Hindustan Times. It noted that the number is likely to increase as more bodies are being retrieved from the rubble. Earlier today, Paritosh Pankaj, Sangareddy SP had confirmed 34 deaths to ANI. An explosion and fire at a pharmaceutical factory in India's southern state of Telangana killed at least 12 people and injured several others, authorities said Monday. The fire department recovered the charred bodies of 10 workers in an industrial area about 50 kilometres from the state capital, Hyderabad, the state's fire services director, GV Narayana Rao, told the Associated Press. Two other workers succumbed to burns and were pronounced dead at a hospital, Rao said, adding that debris of the gutted pharmaceutical unit of Sigachi Industries was being removed to find out if any more workers were trapped. Nearly three dozen injured workers were admitted to hospitals, he said. 'It was an explosion in a spray dryer unit of the factory, which is used to process raw material into fine powder for making drugs,' Rao said. India is home to some of the world's top pharmaceutical companies, playing a pivotal role in the global supply of generic medicines and vaccines. The country's robust manufacturing and cost-effective production have made it a hub for pharma giants. Industrial accidents, particularly involving chemical reactors, aren't uncommon in such factories, underlining the need for authorities to implement stringent safety protocols and regulatory oversight in a sector critical to public health. Sigachi Industries Limited is an Indian company dealing with active pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates and vitamin-mineral blends, according to the company's website. It has five manufacturing facilities across India, and subsidiaries in the US and the United Arab Emirates. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a social media post, expressed his anguish over the loss of lives and announced financial support of ₹ 2 lakhs each to the next of kin.
